Abstract

Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) is a growth hormone mediator that acts as a growth-promoting factor in the growth process and is also an indicator of the adaptive immune system. Children who experience stunting will experience obstacles to growth and cognitive and motor development, affecting their productivity as adults. This research aims to determine IGF-1 levels and their relationship with stunted children's nutritional status. The research method used was observational, with a cross-sectional research design. The population of stunted children in the Tegalwangi locus area, Cirebon Regency, a sample of children aged 24-60 months who met the inclusion criteria of not being disabled and not being sick, was 50 children. The research began with parents filling in informed consent. Continue to fill in data on date of birth, measure height and weight, take @1ml of the child's blood, and analyze IGF-1 using the ELISA method. The research results were that the average IGF-1 level for men was 16,812 ± 5,164 ng/ml and for women 13,810 ± 5,111 ng/ml. Average IGF-1 levels aged 24-36 months were 14,777 ± 4,742 ng/ml, 36–48 months 17,050 ± 4,280 ng/ml, and 48–60 months 15,214 ± 6,248 ng/ml. Data analysis using the Pearson correlation test obtained a value of p=0.871 based on age, p=0.047 based on gender, p=0.643 based on Height for age, and p=0.245 based on Weight for age (95% CI). The conclusion is that there is a relationship between the age of a stunted child and IGF-1 levels, and there is no relationship with nutritional status. All stunted children have IGF-1 values below the standard value for normal children based on the literature, namely ≥ 28.54 ng/ml.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). This disease affects the lung organs and may also affect organs outside the lungs. This study aimed to determine the level of compliance and effectiveness of TB drugs, the relationship between compliance and effectiveness in using TB drugs, and the relationship between compliance and effectiveness based on socio-demographic data of the community. The research method used was descriptive observational, with retrospective data collection based on TB patient treatment cards. Compliance data were collected by completing the MMAS questionnaire, and effectiveness data were collected by recording sputum examination results using the SITB (Tuberculosis Information System) software. The sample comprised the total population according to these criteria. The technique used for sampling was total sampling, namely the total number of TB patients at Talun Health Center, Cirebon Regency, from November 2023 to April 2024, a total of 40 patients. Data analysis using the Spearman test consisted of compliance analysis, effectiveness analysis, the relationship between compliance and effectiveness, and the relationship between compliance and effectiveness based on socio-demographic data of the population. The results of the study showed that the level of compliance with TB drug use was 7.9 (medium level of compliance), and the effectiveness of TB drug use was 100%. There is a relationship between compliance and the effectiveness of TB drug use, but there is no relationship based on the socio-demographic data of the population.  Keywords: Compliance, Effectiveness, TB Drugs

Abstract

Melasma is a chronic skin hyperpigmentation condition that often occurs in women of reproductive age, especially in areas exposed to sunlight. One of the therapeutic agents that has attracted attention is tranexamic acid (TXA), which was originally used as an antifibrinolytic agent, but is now known to have an effective mechanism of action in reducing hyperpigmentation. TXA works through plasminogen inhibition, tyrosinase activity, and angiogenesis, as well as providing anti-inflammatory effects. This study uses the PRISMA systematic review method, involving the analysis of 30 relevant articles out of a total of 289 articles identified. The results showed that topical TXA in various formulations, such as creams, gels, or liposomal serums, provided a significant reduction in the Melasma Area and Severity Index (MASI) score. The combination of TXA with other modalities, such as microneedling, laser, and vitamin C, showed more effective results than monotherapy. Topical TXA is an effective and safe therapeutic agent for melasma, especially in the case of refractory or combination therapies. Further research is needed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and innovation of new formulations in improving the penetration and efficacy of TXA.

Abstract

Background: The food consumed by children greatly affects how they will live in the future. The amount of nutrition that enters a child's body affects their health and intelligence. Macronutrients, vitamins and minerals are vital components in the body for the processes of growth and development, endurance, and other important functions. Low nutritional intake in children will cause them to experience growth failure, resulting in stunting. Objectives: This study was to compare the intake of macronutrients (protein, fat, and carbohydrate), vitamins (A, E, B1, B2, B6, C, folate), and minerals (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc) between stunted and non-stunted childrenMaterials and Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. The population of the study was toddlers living in the Tegalwangi area, a sample of 100 children, ages 2 to 5, who were willing to sign a consent form as research subjects was split into 50 stunting and 50 non-stunting children. The time for the study began in January-May 2023. Data was collected using the 3x24 hour nutritional recall questionnaire method, followed by converting nutritional intake through the Nutrisurvey softwareResults: Nutritional intake for stunted children, shows that there are 12 intake criteria below the nutritional adequacy rate, while 5 intake criteria meet the standard. While for children who are not stunted, 12 criteria meet and 5 criteria do not meet the nutritional adequacy standard. Conclusion: Analysis of differences in the intake of the two groups found that there were no significant differences in the intake of macronutrients (carbohydrates), vitamins (E, B2) and minerals (sodium, potassium, calcium and phosphorum) with p>0.05, and significant differences in the intake of macronutrients (protein, fat). vitamins (A, B1, B6, C, folate), and minerals (magnesium, iron, zinc) with p<0.05.
