Abstract

Sexual violence is a pervasive issue affecting both adults and children globally, resulting in severe trauma for victims. Due to the power dynamics, this problem also extends to educational institutions, including universities. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate incidents of sexual violence among medical students at a state university in West Sumatra, Indonesia in 2023. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted using a questionnaire distributed to pre-clinical and clinical medical students. A total of 1,170 students were included as respondents, of which 9.66% of them reported experiencing sexual violence. Specifically, 46.% of respondents had previous experience of sexual violence, and 42.5% of these occurred during their time as university students. The most common forms were non-physical sexual violence, accounting for 35% of reported cases, with 30.3% of the perpetrators being strangers. Over half of the victims experienced sexual violence more than once, and only 46.2% of victims reported their experience. This study showed that sexual violence affected medical students, mainly in non-physical forms, with a low reporting rate. Consequently, collaboration between campus leaders and the academic community is crucial to empower victims in participating and creating an environment that is free from sexual violence. Preventive efforts must also be comprehensive, engaging multiple sectors and community, to effectively combat sexual violence in universities.

Abstract

Transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 from corpses to people around, namely mortuary officers and the families of the bodies, can occur through direct contact with body fluids, objects around the body that are contaminated with the coronavirus, and aerosols formed when the body is moved or turned over. The curing of the COVID-19 corpse requires special treatment so that the custodian of the corpse avoids the transmission of this coronavirus. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and awareness of medical and mortuary staff about the importance of organizing COVID-19 bodies by taking into account the standards that the WHO has issued, professional organizations while still paying attention to the ethical, religious, and customs aspects of the local community. This capacity-building method is in the form of an online seminar on the role of medical personnel in curing COVID-19 corpses through the provision of 4 topics by four presenters. The material provided was the ethical and legal aspects of the burial of COVID-19 bodies, the management of the burial of COVID-19 corpses, religious views on the handling of COVID-19 corpses, and filling out the COVID-19 death certificate. The results of the activities obtained are the pretest and post-test results to assess the participants' knowledge. Ninety-one participants attended the pretest, and 94 participants from 150 seminar participants attended the post-test. According to standard operating procedures adopted from WHO, the funeral of the corpse is carried out by taking into account ethical, cultural, and religious aspects. The province of West Sumatra itself is primarily Muslim, so this protocol is also based on the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council. The preparation of SOPs for the healing of COVID-19 patients and socialization needs to be continued with other health workers and the community to reduce the turbidity in the community regarding the handling of the bodies of COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Medical Certificate Cause of Death (MCCD) or death certificate is a letter made by the hospital and filled out by the doctor in charge to explain that someone has died. The standard format and instructions for filling out death certificates in Indonesia are issued by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia. In practice, several hospitals in Indonesia produce death certificates that do not comply with the standard format and do not follow the instructions for filling out the information issued by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia, so that death certificates are often filled out incompletely. This literature review aims to determine the suitability of the format and completeness of filling out a death certificate as well as the factors causing discrepancies and incomplete filling. This research takes the form of a literature review using provider databases, such as Google Scholar and nationally accredited journal sites with the keywords "Medical Cause of Death Certificate (MCCD)", "Death Certificate", and "Death Certificate (SKK)". The results showed that a total of 4 articles were related to the format of death certificates and 8 articles were related to the completeness of filling out death certificates from 2013-2023. Based on the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the format of death certificates issued by hospitals in Indonesia still does not follow the standard format of the Research and Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Overall, the completeness of filling out death certificates in several hospitals in Indonesia is still low. Factors causing format discrepancies are the hospital's ignorance of the standard format and the hospital's failure to evaluate and change the death certificate format. Factors causing incomplete filling in are the absence of guidelines for filling out, the absence of regulations and SOPs for filling out death certificates, lack of attention, and quantitative analysis that has not been optimal. Abstract

Introduction: The lack of experts in forensic medicine will become a serious problem globally in the future. In Indonesia, the unique position of forensic medicine at the intersection between medicine and law itself means that the role of forensic doctors can still expand widely. The future development of forensic medicine in Indonesia is determined mainly by forensic doctors and prospective forensic doctors themselves. Therefore, this study aims to determine the motivation of doctors in choosing the specialty of forensic medicine and their views on work as forensic doctors. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive observational research using mixed methods, with forensic doctors and residents as respondents. Result: The results show that 17.8% chose forensic medicine because of their interests and 11.1% because they considered forensic medicine to be a challenging specialty. The absence of scholarships, the lack of institutional and family support, the lack of number and variety of cases in various educational centers, and the limited supporting facilities and financing of forensic medical services are the main obstacles for forensic doctors. Conclusion: Regeneration is needed to meet the need of forensic doctors in various regions in Indonesia by spreading information about the importance of forensic medicine. Good coordination between forensic experts, the Indonesian Forensic Doctors Association (PDFI), other professional organizations, and relevant stakeholders is needed to overcome various obstacles and ensure the growth of forensic medicine in Indonesia.

Abstract

Individuals with severe motor impairments face challenges in performing daily manipulation tasks independently. Existing assistive robotic systems show limited accuracy (typically 85–92%) and low intuitive control, requiring extensive training. This study presents a control system integrating electrooculography (EOG) signals with real-time computer vision feedback for natural, high-precision control of a 4-degrees-of-freedom (4-DOF) robotic manipulator in assistive applications. The system uses an optimized K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm to classify six eye-movement categories with computational efficiency and real-time performance. Computer-vision modules map object coordinates and provide feedback integrated with inverse kinematics for positioning. Validation with 10 able-bodied participants (aged 18–22) employed standardized protocols under controlled laboratory conditions. The KNN classifier achieved 98.17% accuracy, 98.47% true-positive and 1.53% false-negative rates. Distance-measurement error averaged 1.5 mm (± 1.6 mm). Inverse-kinematics positioning attained sub-millimeter precision with 0.64 mm mean absolute error (MAE) for frontal retrieval and 1.58 mm for overhead retrieval. Operational success rates reached 99.48% for frontal and 97.96% for top-down retrieval tasks. The system successfully completed object detection, retrieval, transport, and placement across ten locations. These findings indicate a significant advancement in EOG-based assistive robotics, achieving higher accuracy than conventional systems while maintaining intuitive user control. The integration shows promising potential for rehabilitation centers and assistive environments, though further validation under diverse conditions, including latency and fatigue, is needed.
