Abstract

Introduction: The lack of experts in forensic medicine will become a serious problem globally in the future. In Indonesia, the unique position of forensic medicine at the intersection between medicine and law itself means that the role of forensic doctors can still expand widely. The future development of forensic medicine in Indonesia is determined mainly by forensic doctors and prospective forensic doctors themselves. Therefore, this study aims to determine the motivation of doctors in choosing the specialty of forensic medicine and their views on work as forensic doctors. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive observational research using mixed methods, with forensic doctors and residents as respondents. Result: The results show that 17.8% chose forensic medicine because of their interests and 11.1% because they considered forensic medicine to be a challenging specialty. The absence of scholarships, the lack of institutional and family support, the lack of number and variety of cases in various educational centers, and the limited supporting facilities and financing of forensic medical services are the main obstacles for forensic doctors. Conclusion: Regeneration is needed to meet the need of forensic doctors in various regions in Indonesia by spreading information about the importance of forensic medicine. Good coordination between forensic experts, the Indonesian Forensic Doctors Association (PDFI), other professional organizations, and relevant stakeholders is needed to overcome various obstacles and ensure the growth of forensic medicine in Indonesia.

Abstract

Sexual violence among adolescents constitutes a growing public health and human rights concern globally, including within educational settings in Indonesia. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured educational intervention in improving students’ knowledge and awareness of sexual violence at SMA Xaverius Bukittinggi. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–post-test design was conducted in September 2025. Participants completed a baseline assessment, followed by an intervention consisting of lectures, case-based learning, and facilitated discussions, and subsequently a post-intervention evaluation. Outcome measures focused on knowledge of sexual violence typologies, reporting mechanisms, and early detection indicators. Baseline results revealed substantial knowledge gaps across all assessed domains. Post-intervention findings demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ understanding, particularly in recognizing forms of sexual violence, identifying appropriate reporting pathways, and detecting early warning signs. The increase in pretest and post-test scores indicates the effectiveness of the intervention in enhancing both awareness and conceptual comprehension. These findings support the implementation of targeted, school-based educational programs as a practical strategy for sexual violence prevention. Regular and sustained interventions are recommended to reinforce knowledge retention, promote early identification, and foster safer educational environments. Institutionalizing annual programs at SMA Xaverius Bukittinggi may contribute to long-term prevention and student empowerment.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine patients characteristics and provide an overview of stone distribution among patients with urolithiasis at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Material & Methods: This study was a descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional design using medical record data of patients with urolithiasis in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang during January - July 2022. A total sampling method was used to collect data from 273 patients. Results: This research showed that most of the patients were males (58.24%) and aged between 51 - 60 years old (34.43%). The stones found were more commonly located in the upper urinary tract, comprising the kidney (73.26%) and ureter (14.65%). Conclusion: This study concluded that male was more likely to develop urolithiasis than female, and so did people aged 51 - 60 years old compared to the other age range.
