Abstract

Background:  Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy (NVP) is one of the symptoms that are often experienced by pregnant women. This condition is physiological, but if it is unhandled it would be pathological and adversely affect the women and fetus. Health education is considered to be able to improve the knowledge and skill of women in overcoming these symptomps. Objective:  To determine the comparison of health education effectiveness between print media and electronic media on knowledge, behavior, and the level of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. Methods:  This study was a quasi-experimental research with two groups of pre-test and post-test designs. It included 56 pregnant women with NVP which were taken by quota sampling at Pindad and Sartika Asih Hospital in October-December 2019. The data were divided into two groups. Group A (GA) received health education through print media, Group B (GB) through electronic media. The measurement used questionnaires of knowledge about NVP, behavior in handling NVP, and PUQE-24 were repeated and analyzed using the Friedman, Post Hoc, and Mann Whitney tests. Results:  There was a significant difference in the mean of knowledge, behavior, and the level of nausea and vomiting between before and after intervention in both groups. Differences in the mean of knowledge, behavior, and the level of nausea and vomiting in GA were the same as in GB, but decrease the levels of nausea and vomiting were found to be faster in GA.Conclusion:  Print media and electronic media are equally effective for increasing knowledge and behavior and decreasing the level of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. Further research needs to determine the effectiveness of this intervention on the quality of life of pregnant women so that the change can be known holistically.

Abstract

Bleeding is the main cause of maternal mortality in the world, the mortality rate due to bleeding about 30.3% in Indonesia in 2013. Dealing bleeding during and after labor is very important for health professionals including nurses. Research on the management of postpartum hemorrhage is still limited. The purpose of this literature review was to determine the management of postpartum hemorrhage from various countries. The method, this literature review involved articles that published in 2008-2018. The articles searched from several databases, including ProQuest, 32 articles, PubMed 22 articles, and Google 21 scholar articles. Keywords for article search included postpartum hemorrhage, nurse, prevention, treatment, management, and intervention. 75 articles were assessed for the quality using the JBI instrument (Joanna Briggs Institute), and finally, 10 articles were found and met the inclusion criteria. The results show that there are two types of actions to deal with postpartum hemorrhage including direct treatment and indirect treatment. The direct treatment includes bimanual compression, maneuvering techniques, balloon tampons, and tools resembling a butterfly shape for bimanual compression. Indirect actions include training of health workers, initiation of early breastfeeding and ice packs. Conclusion, effective management both directly and indirectly is able to overcome postpartum hemorrhage. Health workers are expected to master effective ways to deal with postpartum hemorrhage.

Abstract

The quality of sleep is required by breast cancer patients to regenerate and repair the body cells. When patients’ sleep is disturbed, it may be affected to the physiological conditions, such as decreased appetite, weight loss, anxiety, irritability, and changes in natural and cellular immune functions. Breast cancer therapies can affect the quality of sleep. This study aimed to determine the sleep quality of breast cancer patients that had treatments in a public hospital in Bandung. This research used the quantitative descriptive approach. The sample was selected using the consecutive sampling technique (n = 31). Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Sleep quality was categorized as good when the total score was ≤ 5, and sleep quality was poor when the total score was > 5. The results of this study indicated that all respondents (100%) had poor sleep quality. The components that contributed to the assessment were sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep efficiency, and daytime dysfunction. The worst sleep quality with the highest score (18) occurred in respondents who had radiotherapy and mastectomy (2 persons), and respondents in advanced stage (3 persons). This study concludes that the pharmacological therapies and the stages of cancer contributed to the sleep quality of breast cancer patients. It is expected that health professionals and hospitals notice the patient’s sleeping needs during treatment at the hospital.

Abstract

Integrated Health Post for Child Center/Pos Pelayanan Terpadu (Posyandu) is a form of community-based health program carried out by, from, and along with the community to empower and provide facilities for the community to obtain health services for mothers, babies, and toddlers. Posyandu activities include: KIA, family planning, immunization, nutrition, diarrhea prevention. Posyandu in Indonesia still faced several problems. This study aimed at investigating the problems that affect the implementation of Posyandu program and actions to improve Posyandu program services. The method used in this study was literature review. The literatures used in this study were the search results through national and international journals. National includes google scholar [https://scholar.google.co.id/] and international includes Pubmed [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed] with the keyword “Problems and Posyandu Program” published in 2016-2020. Based on the search results, 8 national and 2 international articles related to the topic and in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria were found. The results of 10 literature reviews show there are several fundamental problems of Posyandu program in Indonesia, namely: 1) the low role of Posyandu cadres; 2) the lack of understanding on the benefit of Posyandu program; 3) The lack of participation in Posyandu activities; 4) The lack of facilities and infrastructure for Posyandu activities; and 5) the lack of cross-program and cross-sector cooperation.  In addition, there are 5 actions needed to solve the problems. The first action is to conduct a training program for Posyandu cadres. The second one is to conduct regular outreach at Posyandu for mothers and families by trained cadres. The third one is to improve the facilities and infrastructure in Posyandu. The fourth one is to provide both material and immaterial incentives for an active Posyandu’s cadre. Lastly, the fifth action is to increase advocacy efforts to related parties. Posyandu program are still facing problems affecting its implementation. Therefore, the posyandu  revitalization actions are needed. The main key lies in increasing cadres' capacity through training.

Abstract

Background: The number of cervical cancer still remains high among women, including nurses in Indonesia. This is due to low participation of them to early detect and prevent it.Objective: This study aimed to identify the factors associated with the participation of nurses in early detection (pap-smear test) of cervical cancer at the hospitals in Bandung Indonesia. Methods: This was a correlational study with a cross-sectional approach on 286 nurses selected using cluster sampling at three hospitals in Bandung on March 2018. Data were collected using health belief model (HBM) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Chi-square or Fisher exact and multivariate logistic regression test. Results: Factors associated with pap-smear behavior were the level of education, perceived susceptibility, perceived barrier and self-efficacy (p-value <0.05). Perceived susceptibility was the most correlated factor with pap-smear behavior with relationship strength (OR) of 16.259 and gave an effect of 27.89% as illustrated in the model equation of y = 0.324 + 2.789 susceptibility + 2.738 barriers. Conclusion: Pap smear behavior of the nurses was still relatively low because they had a negative perception of susceptibility to cervical cancer. Therefore, information is needed to change the nurses' perception related to the susceptibility of symptoms and risk factors that encourages nurses to do the pap-smear and increase nurses' awareness to actively participate in cervical cancer prevention program.
