Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of science and technology in bullying behavior that occurs through WhatsApp groups among students of Al Ma'sum Private Junior High School, Langkat Regency. The method used was a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results showed that common forms of bullying include verbal bullying, cyberbullying, and social exclusion, which are triggered by factors such as lack of empathy, peer pressure, and the influence of negative content on social media. This study recommends science-based prevention strategies, including anti-bullying education, awareness campaigns, and active parental involvement, to reduce bullying behavior in school settings. The findings provide important insights into the dynamics of bullying in the digital age and emphasize the need for a more systematic approach to tackling it.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of differentiated learning in the Pancasila education subject at “Sekolah Penggerak” (driving schools), analyze the challenges, and identify the efforts made to optimize its implementation using the indicators of content, process, product, and learning environment differentiation, focusing on students’ learning styles. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The Informants in this study consisted of 30 individuals selected through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results show that the implementation of learning differentiation based on learning styles at SMAN 9 Padang and SMAN 10 Padang has been carried out, although not yet fully optimal due to shortcomings in planning and execution. In planning through teaching modules, teachers only created general guidelines. For content differentiation, teachers have provided audio-visual materials such as illustrated narrative texts, videos, and PowerPoint presentations. Teachers have applied various teaching methods, but the student worksheets (LKPD) remain uniform. Regarding product differentiation, teachers have not created varied outputs. In terms of learning environment, the arrangement of desks and chairs is sometimes inconsistent with learning activities, affecting student focus.  Pancasila Education teachers at the two “Sekolah Penggerak” have made various efforts to address these challenges. In content, teachers apply classroom differentiation strategies, use movement-themed ice breakers, and attend digital training.

Abstract

Research on non-normative family forms has largely focused on same-sex relationships or transgender individuals’ personal identities, while little attention has been given to marriages between transgender women and women in socially conservative settings. This study examines women’s motives for marrying transgender women, the strategies couples use to sustain their households, and community responses to these unions in Kaur Regency, Indonesia. The research employs an interpretive phenomenological approach to explore how women interpret and rationalize their marital decisions within a context characterized by strong marital expectations, limited relational options, and persistent social stigma. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis involving seven transgender women–women couples and several supporting informants. The findings reveal that women’s marital decisions were shaped by reflective evaluations of relational safety, emotional stability, and prior experiences in heterosexual relationships. Household sustainability was maintained through adaptive practices such as open communication, negotiated economic responsibilities, and flexible gender roles. Community reactions were characterized by ambivalence, combining normative stigma with pragmatic tolerance when couples were perceived as maintaining social harmony. These findings extend rational choice perspectives by demonstrating how emotional security and relational stability function as central criteria in marital decision-making under socially constrained conditions.

Abstract

This study examines the dual roles of female migrant workers in Kuala Merbau Village as economic providers and family caregivers within transnational family arrangements. The study draws on push-pull migration theory, feminization of migration, and transnational motherhood to analyse how migration reshapes gender relations and caregiving practices in rural households. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving 15 informants consisting of female migrant workers, family members, and community leaders selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analysed using thematic analysis with triangulation techniques. The findings show that women’s migration is primarily driven by unstable local employment and household economic insecurity, particularly related to children’s educational needs. After migrating, women become the primary income earners through remittances, resulting in shifts in household economic and caregiving roles. Although caregiving responsibilities are delegated to husbands or extended family members, migrant women continue to perform emotional and maternal responsibilities through long-distance communication. The study also finds that prolonged family separation generates emotional burdens, including guilt, anxiety, and psychological stress, while strong dependence on remittances creates household economic dependency. This study demonstrates that female migration simultaneously produces economic empowerment and emotional vulnerability, revealing how gendered caregiving responsibilities persist despite women’s increasing economic roles within transnational families.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of fulfilling the right to education for children with disabilities as part of the basic rights of citizens, which in practice still faces various limitations in educational services that are appropriate to the needs of students. This study aims to describe and analyze the form of fulfillment of the right to education for children with disabilities at the Special Needs School for Autism of the Child Potential Development Foundation (YPPA) in Bukittinggi City. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data were collected through interviews with the principal, teachers, and parents, observations of learning and school activities, and documentation of school programs and student data. The results show that the fulfillment of the right to education is carried out through learning that is adapted to the conditions and needs of each child, covering aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The school implements individual learning, intensive mentoring, behavioral habits, and skills and independence activities to support student development. This study concludes that the Special Needs School for Autism of YPPA has played a role in fulfilling the right to education for children with disabilities in an adaptive and sustainable manner, although strengthening supporting facilities and program development are still needed to improve the quality of educational services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mechanism and stages of the Batak Angkola traditional wedding ceremony and to examine the symbolic meanings of cigarettes and betel (burangir) within the cultural context of society. This research is motivated by the importance of understanding cultural symbols that persist amid modernization, although their meanings are gradually shifting among younger generations. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to explore symbolic meanings in depth based on the perspectives of cultural actors directly involved in the tradition. Data collection techniques include observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving purposively selected informants, including traditional leaders, religious figures, women, and youth. Data analysis uses the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity is ensured through source and method triangulation. The results show that the traditional wedding process consists of several stages, namely manyapai boru, marpege-pege, manulak sere hasahatan, culminating in horja and mangupa. Each stage contains symbolic meanings that reflect social and cultural values within the community. Cigarettes are interpreted as symbols of respect, communication, and social bonding, while betel (burangir) represents acceptance, affection, and kinship ties. Both function as nonverbal communication media that strengthen social and cultural values while maintaining the continuity of traditions and reinforcing local cultural identity amid ongoing social change.
