Abstract

This study aims to answer the following question: "Can the use of documentary videos in social studies learning improve social studies learning outcomes of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri I Banawa?" The main purpose of this study is to find out whether grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 01 Banawa can improve their learning capacity through the use of documentary videos. The study used a pretest-posttest experimental design with a control group and a quasi-experimental approach. The basic random sampling method is used to obtain the sample. All 120 grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Banawa were considered for this study. Thirty students from class VIII B became an experimental group that watched a documentary; thirty students from class VIII D became a control group that did not watch the documentary. Multiple-choice exams containing 20 questions designed to measure students' progress in history and geography lessons are used as research instruments. Statistical analysis, i.e. t-test in Excel, is used to analyze the data obtained from exam instruments. Based on the findings of the study, the null hypothesis is rejected and an alternative hypothesis is accepted when the resulting values are greater than 2,366 and 2,003, respectively, at a significance level (α) of 0.05. This shows that grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Banawa can benefit from the use of documentary videos in the classroom.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of teaching modules through learning outside the classroom in improving students' understanding of history learning at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. The background of this research is based on the low interest and understanding of students in historical material which is often considered boring and only focuses on theory. For this reason, more contextual learning innovations are needed by utilizing teaching modules that are arranged according to the needs of students and implemented through learning outside the classroom. The research method used is the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development model. The research subjects were students of class X MIA 4 and a follow-up trial was carried out in class XI Social Studies to see the consistency of the results of the implementation of the teaching module. The research instruments include observation sheets, comprehension tests, and student response questionnaires. The results of the study show that the use of teaching modules in learning outside the classroom is able to increase activeness, foster curiosity, and provide a more meaningful learning experience. The data from the evaluation showed an increase in students' understanding of history material both in class X and in the trial in class XI with the very good category. Thus, the use of teaching modules through learning outside the classroom can be used as an alternative strategy to improve the quality of students' understanding of learning history at SMA Negeri 5 Palu.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the use of museums as learning resources, learning media, and the role of historical teachers in introducing museum collections as historical learning media. This research applied a qualitative descriptive research design through several stages of data collection techniques, which are observations, interviews and documentation. The results of this research indicated that the use of museums as a history of learning media had been going well. Visiting museums provide new insights and knowledge to students so that students are more active and their interest in learning about local history is higher. However, the implementation had not been optimal and there were still some obstacles generally experienced by teachers who were the unavailability of a specific time given regarding visiting museums, and the difficulty of coordinating students when visiting the UPT Cultural Park and Museum. There are also some obstacles experienced by students which are incomplete information and explanations from several collections stored at UPT Cultural Park and Museum so that students find it difficult to understand what they observe. In other words, museums as learning media in history subjects can increase student enthusiasm for learning because visiting museums provides new insights and knowledge to students so that students are more active, interested, and motivated to learn about local history even though there were several obstacles faced by both students and teachers.
