Abstract

Shallot (Allium cepa var. aggregatum) is a high-value horticultural crop with significant economic importance in the culinary, health, and industrial sectors. The increasing market demand has driven eJorts to develop varieties that are adaptive to diverse environmental conditions. Of the more than 20 shallot varieties cultivated in Indonesia, only a few are capable of adapting to acidic soils. This study aimed to evaluate the adaptive capacity of three shallot varieties (Bima Brebes, Sanren, and Lokananta) in acidic soil conditions. The experiment was conducted on acidic soil using a non-factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 9 replications, resulting in 27 experimental units. The results showed that all three varieties were able to grow on regosol soil with a soil pH value of 4.60 and significant differences were observed among the varieties for most growth parameters. Bima Brebes exhibited the highest performance at the final observation, with a plant height of 28.21 cm, 43.07 leaves, 9.69 tillers, 10.62 bulbs, 31.29 g bulb weight per clump, 40.96 g fresh bulb weight per plant, and 3.62 g dry bulb weight per plant. These findings suggest that Bima Brebes has strong potential as a superior variety for sustainable optimization of acidic soils. Keywords: Adaptation, Bima Brebes, Lokananta, Sanren

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of Zinnia elegans plant spacing as a refugiaplant on the abundance of natural enemies and the level of pest attacks on soybean (Glycinemax). The study used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with five treatments:no refugia (J0), and plant spacing of 40 cm (J1), 60 cm (J2), 80 cm (J3), and 100 cm (J4),each with four replications. The parameters observed included the identification andpopulation of natural enemy insects, the abundance of natural enemy insects, the area andintensity of pest attacks. Data analysis was carried out using analysis of variance andcontinued with the LSD test at the 5% level. The results showed that the 40 cm plant spacing(J1) was the most effective treatment, resulting in the highest abundance of natural enemies(31 individuals from 4 families) and the lowest pest population (2 individuals). Treatment J1also showed the lowest pest attack area (5.47%) and very light attack intensity (3.62%),while the control (J0) showed an attack area of 23.47% and an attack intensity of 19.42%,which is classified as moderate. The high abundance of natural enemies at a plantingdistance of 40 cm indicates the effectiveness of refugia in creating microhabitats that supportnatural predators in the soybean planting ecosystem. These data indicate that the use ofZinnia elegans refugia at optimal planting distances can suppress pest attacks whileincreasing soybean plant productivity. Therefore, the integration of refugia plants withappropriate planting distances can be an effective, environmentally friendly biologicalcontrol strategy and support sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Abstract

General Background: Employee performance is a central concern for organizations seeking sustainable productivity and operational efficiency. Specific Background: Work motivation, work discipline, and work competency are frequently identified as key internal factors shaping employee performance, yet their combined patterns remain context-dependent. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies report mixed findings regarding the relative contribution of these variables, particularly within small and medium-sized enterprises. Aims: This study aims to examine the relationships between work motivation, work discipline, work competency, and employee performance at UD Alfa Furnitur. Results: Using a quantitative approach with data from 100 employees analyzed through SEM-PLS, the findings indicate that work motivation, work discipline, and work competency each demonstrate positive and statistically significant relationships with employee performance. Among these variables, work motivation shows the strongest association. Novelty: This study provides empirical evidence from a furniture manufacturing context by integrating three internal employee factors within a single structural model. Implications: The findings suggest that organizations should prioritize motivational strategies alongside disciplinary consistency and competency development to support sustainable employee performance. Keywords: Work Motivation, Work Discipline, Work Competency, Employee Performance, SEM-PLS Key Findings Highlights: Motivation-related indicators show the strongest statistical association with performance outcomes. Consistent disciplinary practices align with higher employee work results. Employee competencies support performance through knowledge and skill alignment.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a fusion pastry product known as Scones Baruasa, which combines scones as a Western quick bread with the traditional Bugis Makassar cake baruasa through partial substitution of wheat flour using sorghum and banana flour. An experimental method was applied in two stages, including local flour substitution formulation and fusion technique implementation based on the sensory characteristics of baruasa. Sensory evaluation was conducted in stages involving 25 semi trained panelists, 3 expert panelists, and 200 consumer panelists using a seven point hedonic scale. The results indicated that the optimal formulation was achieved with 15 percent sorghum flour and 10 percent banana flour substitution. Scones Baruasa obtained an overall acceptance score of 5.34, categorized as liked. Although the acceptance level was lower than that of conventional scones, the product demonstrated strong local sensory characteristics, particularly in aroma and flavor. Scones Baruasa has potential to be developed as a fusion pastry product based on local culture and sustainable gastronomy.
