Abstract

Enhancing rice productivity is essential to meet increasing national food demands, especially for local varieties such as Bujang Marantau from Tanah Datar District. This variety is highly valued for its yield potential and pest resistance; however, it faces challenges related to declining seed quality. This research investigates the effect of incorporating an ecoenzyme into a Trichoderma asperellum formulation, using a red glutinous rice medium, on the germination and early growth of Bujang Marantau rice. The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with eight ecoenzyme concentrations (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70%) and four replications. The measured parameters were the fresh and dry weights of seedlings at seven days after germination. Data were analyzed using ANOVA at a 5% significance level, followed by DNMRT when significant differences were detected. The results indicated that ecoenzyme application significantly affected seedling fresh weight during germination but did not influence dry weight. A 30% ecoenzyme concentration was found to be the most effective in promoting germination biomass. This finding demonstrates that ecoenzyme incorporation at this optimal concentration enhances Bujang Marantau rice seedling vigor and represents a promising approach for improving seed quality. Further research is recommended to evaluate field performance and the long-term effects on productivity.

Abstract

There are national regulations on conservation of wildlife in Indonesia, but the implementation has not been optimum due to lack of monitoring by the government. This program was trying to initiate local participative on conservation of wildlife, specifically initiating a village constructing their own regulation or local custom for sustainable natural resources management. The program was conducted in Singgalang village Tanah Datar Regency West Sumatra, with multi local stakeholders belong to customary holders, tourism leading group, the official village staffs, women association and schools across the village were involved. The program was officially openned by vice Bupati of Tanah Datar Regency, then it was followed by seminar with Yayasan SINTAS Indonesia for biodiversity richness and the problems, and completed by PAGARI for local custom implementation. The participants were excited with the seminar and took various necessary messages. This provided great insight to let the local stakeholders create their local custom

Abstract

Red chili peppers (Capsicum annum L.) are an important horticultural commodity with high economic value and play a significant role in meeting people's food needs. However, chili plant productivity often faces constraints due to biotic factors, one of which is interactions with weeds. Cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica) is known as an invasive weed that is generally detrimental, but it contains secondary metabolite compounds that have the potential to be utilized in agriculture. Allelopathic compounds produced by cogongrass can affect the growth of other plants, either inhibitively or stimulatively depending on the concentration and application method. This article aims to examine the potential of cogongrass leaf extract on chili plant growth based on the results of the latest scientific research. The writing method was carried out through a literature review of national and international journals published in 2020 and later. The results of the study indicate that plant extracts, including cogongrass, have the potential to be developed as environmentally friendly natural plant growth regulators, although precise dosage adjustments are required to avoid growth inhibitory effects.

Abstract

Vegetation structure refers to the stratification of plant growth stages within an ecosystem, which are generally classified into seedling, sapling, pole, and tree levels. Analysis of plant composition aims to identify plant species present in a forest area. This study aimed to determine the vegetation structure and plant composition in the Community Forest Management (HKM) area of Harapan Jaya Batu Ampar, Nagari Panti, Panti District, East Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra. The research employed a nested quadrat method with plots placed randomly, consisting of 10 plots adjusted to the field conditions at the study site. The results showed that the 2 × 2 m and 5 × 5 m plots were dominated by the family Rubiaceae, with Coffea robusta as the most abundant species. The 10 × 10 m plots were dominated by the family Lauraceae, with Litsea sp. as the dominant species. Meanwhile, the 20 × 20 m plots were dominated by the family Fagaceae, with Lithocarpus elegans recorded as the main species. These findings provide preliminary data for understanding the vegetation structure in the Community Forest Management (HKM) area of Harapan Jaya Batu Ampar, Nagari Panti, Panti District, East Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra

Abstract

The increasing demand for electrical energy drives the development of renewable energy technologies such as Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC), which converts organic substrates into electricity using microorganisms. This study aims to determine the effect of starter concentration and identify the optimal concentration of Aneurinibacillus thermoaerophilus strain N25 in bioelectricity production. An experimental method was used with a dual-chamber MFC system and starter concentrations of 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%, and 15%. Voltage production was measured using a digital multimeter (V) over 24 hours. The results showed that starter concentration affected bioelectricity production, with voltage increasing over time and reaching a peak at the 20th hour. Higher starter concentrations produced higher voltage due to increased microbial activity and more efficient electron transfer.

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a strategic food commodity in Indonesia, with demand continuing to rise in line with population growth. Efforts to increase rice production through intensification often rely on the use of inorganic fertilizers, which have a negative impact on soil fertility. One alternative to reduce this dependence is the use of microbial-based biofertilizers, such as Trichoderma asperellum, which plays a role in improving nutrient uptake and plant growth. However, the formulation of T. asperellum in conventional media such as PDA is still ineffective in the field due to its relatively high cost. This study was conducted to examine the contribution of a red glutinous rice-based T. asperellum formula with the addition of ecoenzyme to the vegetative growth of paddy rice (Oryza sativa L.). The study was designed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with six treatments of formula composition and NPK fertilizer and five replicates. The parameters observed included plant height and number of tillers at 3, 5, and 7 weeks after planting (WAP). The data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's test at a 5% level. The results showed that the treatments had a significant effect on the vegetative growth of rice. Treatment P3 (60% formula + 40% NPK) produced the highest plant height (131.43 cm) at 7 weeks after planting, while treatment P2 (80% formula + 20% NPK) produced the highest number of tillers (60.33 tillers per clump) in the fifth week. These findings indicate a synergy between the biological activity of T. asperellum and NPK fertilizer, as well as the potential for reducing the use of inorganic fertilizers without decreasing the vegetative growth of rice.

Abstract

Rice is a staple food crop for some Indonesians. To increase rice production, various efforts have been made, one of which is seed priming using biofertilizers. Biofertilizer or biological fertilizer uses microorganisms that are used as plant growth boosters. The microorganisms used to act as PGPF (Plant Growth Promoting Fungi) are Trichoderma spp. Trichoderma spp. widely used because it can trigger plant growth. This study aims to determine the response of Trichoderma spp. to the seed vigor index and dry weight of rice sprouts of sirandah batuampa variety. The research method is experimental research using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications. Parameters observed were seed vigor index and sprouts dry weight. The results showed that Trichoderma spp. had no significant effect on seed vigor index and sprouts dry weight. Judging from the mean value, the seed vigor index of SBT, SRBA, and KRT had better values than the control, as well as the dry weight of sprouts with the provision of SBT, SRBA, and SB isolates. This shows Trichoderma spp. This gave a positive response to the Sirandah Batuampa variety.
