Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of varying tube expansion percentages on the mechanical properties, microstructure, and hardness of SA-213 TP316L tubes joined to SA-240 TP316L tubesheets in a shell-and-tube type heat exchanger. The tube expansion process was carried out using a roller expander with three expansion levels: 4%, 8%, and 12%, followed by Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) at 150 A. Microstructural observations revealed that all joint zones were dominated by austenite with small amounts of delta ferrite, where increasing expansion percentages induced significant changes in the expand area: slight deformation at 4%, grain elongation at 8%, and pronounced grain distortion at 12%. Macrostructural observations showed perfect fusion between the tube and tubesheet for all variations, with no macro defects such as lack of fusion or porosity. Vickers hardness testing indicated the highest values in the expand area for all variations, with a maximum of 377 Kgf/mm², exceeding the standard limit of 250 Kgf/mm² for stainless steel. The hardness of the base metal was around 180 Kgf/mm², while the weld metal ranged from 220–230 Kgf/mm² due to delta ferrite formation. The increase in hardness in the expand area was attributed to cold working effects, indicating that post-tube expansion heat treatment is necessary to reduce residual stresses and restore the optimal mechanical properties of the material.

Abstract

Energy consumption (kWh) is critical to the operation of electrical systems. Predictive modeling optimizes energy usage, increasing power system efficiency. This study created an artificial neural network (ANN) architecture to estimate energy consumption (kWh) for home users in Banda Aceh. The ANN topology consisted of 5 input layers, 5-25 hidden layers, and one output layer. This study used two scenarios: first, the ANN topology was trained using the logsig activation function, and then the tansig activation function was used for training. Based on training simulations, the ANN architecture with 5 input layers, 5 hidden layers, and 1 output layer has the lowest Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 0.00035. The next phase involved testing this ANN topology. The next stage is to analyze the ANN architecture with 5 input layers, 5 hidden layers, and 1 output layer using the testing technique. Based on the testing technique, the ANN architecture with 5 input layers, 5 hidden layers, and 1 output layer had a MAPE value of 3.34%.

Abstract

This paper reports the outcomes of a ‘Community Service’ activity related to the implementation of the Deep Learning (DL) approach in English language teaching in Indonesia. The activity was conducted for junior high school English language teachers in Bogor regency, Indonesia. It outlines the design, implementation, and evaluation of a structured professional development program aimed at equipping teachers with the knowledge, skills, and reflective capacity needed to adopt Deep Learning within the framework of Indonesia’s Merdeka Belajar curriculum. Drawing on Michael Fullan’s 6Cs framework (i.e., character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking), the activity emphasized pedagogical transformation that moves beyond traditional content delivery toward student-centered, inquiry-based learning. The program adopted a four-stage model: observation, socialization, training and mentoring, and evaluation. These stages allowed facilitators to map the instructional realities of the participants, co-construct relevant training content, and evaluate the impact through both qualitative and quantitative measures. The results indicated a significant increase in teachers’ awareness of DL principles, improved pedagogical confidence, and willingness to implement more meaningful and contextualized English Language Teaching (EFL) practices. Key themes explored included the coherence between DL and the national Profil Pelajar Pancasila, strategies to overcome implementation challenges, and the integration of AI tools to enhance 21st-century competencies. The findings suggest that DL offers a transformative avenue for revitalizing ELT in Indonesia by aligning global educational innovations with local policy goals. This paper recommends sustained investment in teacher training, digital infrastructure, and curricular alignment to ensure scalable and equitable adoption of DL nationwide.

Abstract

Abstract

Vegetation and temperature are biophysical parameters that affect sea turtle nesting behavior. Coastal vegetation is essential to the nesting behavior of Loggerhead sea turtles. In contrast to Hawksbill sea turtles, Loggerhead sea turtles preferentially select sandy beaches for nesting. The study aimed to measure the impact of vegetation and temperature on sea turtle nesting behaviors and to offer detailed insights on adaptation and enhanced conservation techniques to save sea turtles from environmental changes. The study was performed on Popaya Island, within the Nature Reserve of Mas Popaya Raja Island, North Gorontalo, from January to March 2023. Identification of population and sample using the purposive sampling method for all turtles observed throughout the observation phase. The findings indicated that Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) favored nesting in locations characterized by greater plant diversity and density, averaging 195 eggs per nest. Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) deposited a comparatively lower number of eggs (88 eggs) than at other locations (96 - 108 eggs). Some eggs were found in places with no surrounding vegetation. The nesting activity of loggerheads in non-vegetated regions may have been affected by the shallowness of the holes and their comparatively broader width. The sand surface temperature in areas with dense flora and biodiversity decreases, impacting egg-laying activity as one moves further from the vegetation's border.
