Abstract

There are different perceptions about the meaning of childrenin each person. The different is caused by various factors of the parents. Different definition about the child also has an impact on the treatment of parents towards their children. This research aims to explore the factors in defining children by parents, mainly on demographic factors and beliefs on Islam in Asean area. This study involved 94 participants consisting of citizens of Indonesia and Thailand. The data instrument was open ended questionnaire. Data analysis in this study used descriptive analysis in the form of crosstabulation to explore the definition of a childbased on demographic point of view and belief system (the system of beliefs that is owned by the parent on religion). The results show that there was a universal definition of child from different backgrounds including: education, belief system, original country, status in family, and home, namely a child is the mandate (amanah) from Allah SWT. However, the research also shows the unique and various definition of the children which is seen from each factor.

Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to assess the effect of goal setting types (performance goals, learning goals and do your best goals) on the students performance of English language by making self-efficacy and students' prior ability as co-variables. The design of this study used a quasi-experimental method and consist of three groups in which each would receive different treatment (learning goals, performance goals and do your best goal). Students performance of English language as measured by performance tests using the English language, self-efficacy was measured using self-efficacy scale and the prior ability of students is obtained from the result of English lesson in last assignment in class XI of 2nd semester. Subjects in this study amounted to 91 students a class XII of senior high school xxx in Yogyakarta. Analysis of the data used analysis of covariance (Ancova) and comparison analysis used analysis of variance (Anova). The result of data analysis by using Ancova with one tail shows that the hypothesis is proven, with F = 2,846 and p = 0.032 (p 0,05). The result indicates that there is a performance difference of the English language between types of goal-setting. LSD result indicates that differences in the performance of English language only occur between a given learning goals with performance goals with MD = 1,974 and p = 0,019 (p 0,05). Adjusted R Squared by co-variable (self-efficacy and prior ability) showed a higher result (24.3%) than those that were not using co-variable (7.3%). This is due to influence from both co-variables, i.e. self-efficacy (F = 4,124 p = 0,045 (p 0,05)) and the prior ability of students (F = 10.350 and p = 0.002 (p 0,01)), on the students performance of English language. These results indicate that in the application of goal settings techniques on the performance of the English language, it is needed to involve self efficacy and the students' prior ability in order to enhancing better results. Key words: Types of goal setting, learning goals, performance goals, do your best goals, self-efficacy and students' prior ability.

Abstract

This study aims to adapt the Self-Efficay Questionnaire for Children (SEQ-C) into Indonesian and analyze the quality of its psychometric properties. The adaptation model refers to the concept developed by Beaton with 5 (five) stages, including initial translation, synthesis of the translations, back translation, expert committee, and pre-final version testing. This research method used descriptive quantitative by adapting measuring instruments. This research was conducted offline and online on students who live in the Aisyiyah Orphanage in East Java and students who are cared for by their parents with an age range of 12-18 years (N = 187; Boys 16% and Girls 83%). This study used Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children (SEQ-C) instruments with data collection techniques using the SEQ-C scale. Data analysis using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and internal consistency reliability using JASP Version 16.0.0. The results of the CFA in model 2 show that there is a model fit (model fit) with the data, with a score of 2 = 169,999 (p = 0.421 > 0.05); RMSEA = 0.008 < 0.08; CFI = 0.999 > 0.9; TLI = 0.999 > 0.9; SRMR = 0.059 < 0.08 and has a loading factor > 0.4. Reliability test using internal consistency on each factor SEQ-C shows good results (including factors A, B, and C). SEQ-C, adapted into Indonesian, has met adequate validity and reliability to be used as a measuring tool for self-efficacy in students living in orphanages in Indonesia. However, it needs to be tested on students more generally, starting from elementary to high school.
