Abstract

Pedagogical content knowledge is teachers’ knowledge and experience in teaching specific content. However, professional mathematics teachers have not used it as a basis for information in developing mathematics learning models. This study aims to produce a mathematics learning model based on the knowledge and experience of professional teachers in teaching sequences and series. This study uses a development model with the Plomp scheme, which consists of 5 stages: initial investigation, design, realization/construction, testing, and implementation. The subjects in this study were eight high school teachers who have experience and excellent reputations. Data collection techniques are documentation, FGD, observation, questionnaires, and tests. The data analysis in this study was qualitative, using percentage-based techniques and vignette analysis of learning outcomes. The results showed that after the needs analysis, realization, and design stages, the product was tested through expert reviews and assessments. The assessment results showed that the product was valid and practical. The implementation stage was conducted in 3 schools, with 147 students as research participants. The results showed that the developed model had a positive, potential impact, as students were more constructive in their learning. Thus, the developed model can serve as a reference for mathematics learning, particularly for sequences and series. During the learning process, students are more creative and constructive, and follow the concept of in-depth learning in a pedagogical context.

Abstract

The numeracy skills of Indonesian students remain a major challenge, especially for dyscalculic students in learning mathematics. One of the contributing factors is the limited availability of inclusive learning media that provide interactive and contextual experiences, making it difficult to connect mathematical concepts with real-life situations. This study aims to conduct a needs analysis for the development of a learning medium called Numeria, an RME-based multimedia prototype designed to improve the numeracy skills of dyscalculic students in learning mathematics in elementary school. This study uses the ADDIE development method, focusing on the analysis and design stages. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires involving 48 dyscalculic students in fifth grade at elementary schools in Central Java. Data analysis was conducted descriptively. The results of this study indicate that students with mathematical dyscalculia need interactive learning media that can present mathematical concepts more concretely and contextually. Teachers also expressed the need for innovative media that connect abstract mathematics with everyday contexts relevant to students' experiences. The integration of RME principles into multimedia is expected to increase motivation, engagement, and deeper understanding, thereby contributing to the improvement of dyscalculic students' numeracy skills. These findings provide a solid foundation for further design and development related to Numeria as an interactive and inclusive mathematics learning medium.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic in various countries has had an impact on changes in the education system. The implementation of learning has changed from classroom to online learning. The implementation of online learning certainly affects the learning interest of students. This study was conducted to determine student interest in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The subjects in this study were students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at a private university in Yogyakarta as many as 72 students who were selected using the simple random sampling method. The data in this study were collected through Google Form questionnaire. The questionnaire contains 15 items of multiple choice and each item contains “why” question to obtain in-depth data about the answers given by respondents. The data of questionnaire analyzed descriptive qualitatively. The results indicated that students' interest in online learning needed to be insreased. It can be seen from students’ responses to the questionnaire that only 15.3% of students gave a positive response to online learning and 32% to online exams. In general, students prefer classroom learning compared to online learning in terms of student attendance, interaction of lecturer-students, and technical in learning. Online learning tends to reduce student interest in attending lectures. Limitations of internet access, lecturer delivery methods and the amount of workloads are factors causing the decline in student interest. By knowing students' interest in learning and the factors that cause low students’ interest in learning, lecturers can improve the quality of learning to increase student interest in online learning.
