Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Indonesia National Curriculum (Kurikulum 2013) of mathematics at junior secondary school level. The tool used is the Web-based Curriculum Review Mapping System (CRMS). The CRMS was developed to analyze the curriculum, as expected outcome, through teachers lesson plan. The method used in this research was descriptive with a qualitative approach. In this research, the research was the main instrument assisted with interview guide sheets and documentations. The object of this research is the national curriculum for mathematics at a junior high school with three mathematics teachers as respondents to be interviewed. Analysis of the data used in the study is a qualitative analysis with three stages: data reduction, exposure, and drawing conclusions and verification. Qualitative data analysis is carried out simultaneously with data collection process. The results of the study state that the CRMS is at easy to implement by the teachers of mathematics. They can review their mathematics lesson plan using this system. Furthermore, by this system teachers could create various lesson plans.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of mathematical representation ability as one of five abilities that must be possessed by students in learning mathematics. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Survey, Questions, Read, Recite, Review (SQ3R) learning models on the mathematical representation ability of high school students. This research is a quantitative research with quasi-experimental method and pretest posttest control group design. The instrument used was a test of mathematical representation ability. The results of this study are differences in mathematical representation ability of students who get the SQ3R learning model is higher than students who get a direct learning model. Keywords:  Mathematical Representations Ability, SQ3R Learning, Direct Learning

Abstract

Abstract

Realistic mathematics learning strategies are more focused on student learning activities, which  then connected to student’s real world daily lives so that the learn process is felt to be more concrete. The purpose of this study is to find out whether realistic mathematics learning strategies and learning motivation have an effect on student mathematics learning outcomes. This research was conducted in fifth grade elementary school students using 2x2 factorial design. The statistical test used was two-way Anova. Based on the results of data analysis with two-way Anova test, it was found that there are differences in students' mathematics learning outcomes. It can be seen from the acquisition of the average value of the two research classes that is equal to 77.81 for experimental class 1 and equal to 61.25 for experimental class 2. However there is no interaction between realistic mathematics learning strategies and learning motivation. This can be seen from the calculated F value < F table that is equal to 0.03 < 3.34.

Abstract

Learning will be effective if it can minimize extraneous cognitive load because students' understanding can be improved and stored in long-term memory. The purpose of this study was to determine the development of e-learning teaching materials on matrices based on cognitive load theory that is valid, practical, and effective. The development of this teaching material uses e-LKS (electronic student worksheet) with the help of a liveworksheet and presents example-based learning. This study uses the ADDIE development model. The development steps used are (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, (5) evaluation. Valid test based on expert judgment shows that e-learning teaching materials on matrices based on cognitive load theory get an average of 4.25 with very valid category so that this teaching material is feasible to use. The practicality test based on the student response questionnaire showed that this teaching material obtained an average of 79.7% with a good category, and the evaluation test showed that this teaching material obtained an average of 78.6% with student completeness in learning so it can be concluded that e-learning teaching materials on matrices based on cognitive load theory can be said to be effective.

Abstract

Several studies have been carried out to uncover errors made by students in solving mathematical problems. However, there are few studies related to this kind of research specializing in students with special needs, in this case, slow learners, especially in Indonesia. In addition, the study did not classify the errors into the category of mathematical errors, so the location of the errors was not mapped. This study aimed to describe the performance of slow learners in solving mathematical problems, which are analyzed by the locations of errors based on the Newman procedure and categorized by Elbrink’s classification. This study also aimed to reveal the causes of errors made by slow learners in solving mathematical problems by confirming the characteristics of slow learners. The subject of this research was two eighth-graders who are considered slow learners in an inclusive junior high school. The data were collected through written tasks and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that both subjects could perform the reading and comprehension stages. However, they faced difficulties performing the transformation, process skills, and encoding that led to errors. The error categories were calculation, procedural, and symbolic errors. These errors were caused by the limited cognitive abilities of slow learners, their poor memory and concentration skills, and less variety of teaching methods by the teacher. The results of this study can become a reference for mathematics teachers to determine alternative strategies for overcoming errors made by slow learners in solving mathematical problems.
