Abstract

This study validates the superiority of individual learning over peer collaborative learning when studying worked examples in a multivariable calculus course. It examines cognitive load dimensions and the quality of students' conceptual understanding to provide empirical recommendations for instructional design in higher education. A mixed-method approach with a concurrent triangulation design combined quantitative and qualitative analyses. The quantitative aspect involved experimental comparisons of cognitive load, comprehension tests, and surveys, while the qualitative analysis focused on interaction patterns through discussion transcripts. Participants included 131 undergraduate students (41 male, 90 female, average age 19.25 years) from a state university in Banten, Indonesia. They were randomly assigned to individual (52 students) and peer collaboration (79 students) groups. The results revealed that students in the individual learning condition achieved significantly better comprehension than those in peer collaboration, though cognitive load showed no difference between the groups. Peer collaboration presented notable challenges in supporting the effectiveness of worked-example learning. In most cases, collaboration was either ineffective or partially effective. However, instances of effortful understanding and clarification-seeking suggest collaboration may be supportive if instructional design encourages deeper engagement and problem-solving. These findings provide insights for optimizing collaborative strategies in worked-example learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model disposisi produktif berbasis pemahaman konseptual dengan melibatkan mediator kelancaran prosedural, kompetensi strategis, dan penalaran adaptif. Disposisi produktif dipandang sebagai hasil akhir yang mencerminkan sikap positif mahasiswa terhadap matematika, yang berakar dari penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan matematika lainnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian ekspos-fakto dengan analisis jalur untuk mengevaluasi hubungan langsung, tidak langsung, dan total antar variabel. Sampel terdiri dari 30 mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Matematika dengan pemilihan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes untuk mengukur pemahaman konseptual, kelancaran prosedural, kompetensi strategis, dan penalaran adaptif, serta kuesioner untuk disposisi produktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konseptual berpengaruh signifikan terhadap disposisi produktif baik secara langsung maupun melalui kelancaran prosedural. Kompetensi strategis memberikan pengaruh total terbesar terhadap disposisi produktif dibandingkan mediator lainnya, meskipun tidak signifikan secara tidak langsung. Sebaliknya, penalaran adaptif tidak mendukung hubungan antar variabel secara signifikan. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya pendekatan pembelajaran yang holistik, dengan fokus pada pengembangan pemahaman konseptual, kelancaran prosedural, dan kompetensi strategis untuk membangun disposisi produktif yang positif.This study aims to develop a productive disposition model based on conceptual understanding by involving mediators of procedural fluency, strategic competence, and adaptive reasoning. Productive disposition is seen as an end result that reflects students' positive attitude towards mathematics, which stems from mastery of concepts and other mathematical skills. This study used an expos-facto research design with path analysis to evaluate the direct, indirect, and total relationships between variables. The sample consisted of 30 students of Mathematics Education Department using purposive sampling technique. The research instruments were tests to measure conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, and adaptive reasoning, as well as a questionnaire for productive disposition. The results showed that conceptual understanding had a significant effect on productive disposition both directly and through procedural fluency. Strategic competence provided the largest total effect on productive disposition compared to other mediators, although it was not significant indirectly. In contrast, adaptive reasoning did not significantly support the relationship between variables. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of a holistic learning approach, focusing on developing conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and strategic competence to build positive productive dispositions.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan informasi tentang implementasikurikulum merdeka pada pembelajaran matematika berdasarkan (1) perencanaan pembelajaran matematika; (2)pelaksanaan pembelajaran matematika; dan (3) penilaian pada pembelajaran matematika. Penelitian ini dilakukandi Kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Metode yang digunakanadalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dandokumentasi. Untuk menganalisis data dilakukan reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan danverifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Perencanaan kurikulum merdeka dalam pembelajaranmatematika di Kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang dilakukan dengan menyesuaikan modul ajar hasil kolaborasiMGMP berdasarkan potensi peserta didik. Abstract

Produk Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik Elektronik (E-LKPD) berbasis aktivitas numerasi yang dikembangkan dalam penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis siswa, dengan menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI di SMA Negeri 6 Kota Serang. Instrumen penelitian dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Uji validitas dilakukan oleh tiga orang pakar materi dan dua orang pakar media, sedangkan uji kepraktisan dilakukan oleh guru dan siswa selaku pengguna E-LKPD. Untuk menganalisis disposisi kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis, digunakan instrumen berupa angket disposisi. Uji efektivitas bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi peningkatan kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis siswa melalui perhitungan n-gain, yang diperoleh dari perbandingan nilai sebelum dan sesudah siswa mengerjakan E-LKPD. Hasil uji validitas menunjukkan bahwa produk dinilai valid dengan persentase sebesar 76% oleh pakar materi dan 84% oleh pakar media. Uji kepraktisan menghasilkan rata-rata persentase sebesar 80%, yang termasuk dalam kategori praktis. Analisis disposisi kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis menunjukkan persentase sebesar 71%, yang termasuk dalam kategori baik. Sementara itu, uji efektivitas menggunakan n-gain menghasilkan skor 0.57 atau setara dengan 57%, yang berada dalam kategori cukup efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir reflektif matematis peserta didik SMA.

Abstract

Pembelajaran matematika yang kompleks sering kali menyebabkan peningkatan beban kognitif bagi siswa, sehingga menghambat pemahaman dan penyimpanan informasi. Contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan merupakan pendekatan yang efektif untuk meminimalkan beban kognitif dalam pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meninjau dampak strategi contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan terhadap beban kognitif siswa menggunakan metode Tinjauan Literatur Sistematis (SLR). Studi ini mengumpulkan data dari 17 artikel ilmiah yang diterbitkan antara tahun 2017 dan 2024, dengan fokus pada 5 artikel yang terkait dengan beban kognitif, 5 artikel tentang contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan, dan 7 artikel tentang dampak contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan terhadap beban kognitif. Analisis tersebut melibatkan identifikasi, evaluasi, dan sintesis informasi yang komprehensif dari artikel-artikel tersebut. Hasil tinjauan literatur ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan strategi contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan secara efektif mengurangi beban kognitif, khususnya beban ekstrinsik, dan membantu siswa memahami konsep matematika yang kompleks. Contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan juga membantu mengurangi beban kognitif intrinsik dengan memberikan contoh-contoh konkret dan langkah-langkah terstruktur. Selain itu, strategi ini telah terbukti meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan efisiensi kognitif siswa. Berdasarkan temuan-temuan ini, para pendidik didorong untuk mengadopsi strategi contoh-contoh yang dikerjakan dalam desain instruksional untuk mengelola beban kognitif siswa secara efektif, khususnya bagi pelajar pemula. Penggunaan strategi ini dapat meningkatkan prestasi akademik siswa dengan upaya mental yang lebih rendah dan mendukung pembelajaran yang lebih mendalam dan terintegrasi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Indonesia National Curriculum (Kurikulum 2013) of mathematics at junior secondary school level. The tool used is the Web-based Curriculum Review Mapping System (CRMS). The CRMS was developed to analyze the curriculum, as expected outcome, through teachers lesson plan. The method used in this research was descriptive with a qualitative approach. In this research, the research was the main instrument assisted with interview guide sheets and documentations. The object of this research is the national curriculum for mathematics at a junior high school with three mathematics teachers as respondents to be interviewed. Analysis of the data used in the study is a qualitative analysis with three stages: data reduction, exposure, and drawing conclusions and verification. Qualitative data analysis is carried out simultaneously with data collection process. The results of the study state that the CRMS is at easy to implement by the teachers of mathematics. They can review their mathematics lesson plan using this system. Furthermore, by this system teachers could create various lesson plans.

Abstract

Students often face difficulties in solving math problems due to high cognitive load. This load can interfere with optimal information processing, particularly at the micro-level, such as in problem-solving steps. Although many studies have examined cognitive load, most focus on macro-level, with limited exploration of micro-level cognitive processing. To address this, an effective learning approach is needed to optimize students’ working memory capacity and promote knowledge transfer. This study aims to investigate the effect of an example-based learning model on cognitive load and knowledge transfer in mathematics learning. A quasi-experimental method was conducted involving 78 eighth-grade students from a school in Serang City, divided into two groups: an experimental group applying the example-based learning model and a control group using a problem-solving model. Data were collected using a mental effort rating scale and essay questions to measure cognitive load at each problem-solving step, along with retention and near-transfer tests. Analysis using Two-Way ANOVA showed that the example-based learning model significantly reduced cognitive load throughout the problem-solving stages. It also produced better outcomes in retention and near-transfer tests, indicating more effective knowledge transfer. These findings suggest that example-based learning can be a valuable instructional strategy to improve mathematical problem-solving, particularly for students with limited background knowledge. The novelty of this study rests on the simultaneous examination of retention and transfer, focusing on students' micro-level cognitive processing during example-based learning. Structured examples were shown to reduce cognitive burden while fostering transferable problem-solving strategies.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship contributes to economic growth, making it an important factor in advancing society and the economy in the present time. The significance of innovation and entrepreneurship in the current era necessitates that the younger generation understands the subject. This understanding can be achieved through entrepreneurship courses offered in higher education. Based on this, several universities have implemented policies that make entrepreneurship courses mandatory for all students. This research aims to explore in-depth the perception of students, specifically those not majoring in economics, management, business, or social sciences, regarding the entrepreneurship course and the university policy regarding the requirement to take it. The study adopts a qualitative approach using focus group discussion (FGD). The researcher, along with five students from the same university, discusses the learning outcomes of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course and the university policy regarding the mandatory nature of the course. The FGD generates several points related to the learning outcomes of the course. These include students' ability to comprehend the concepts and principles of entrepreneurship, their ability to generate ideas for business creation, their capacity to develop innovative business plans, and the appropriateness of making the Innovation and Entrepreneurship course mandatory as it benefits all students, including those not majoring in economics, management, business, or social sciences.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who are taught by using inductive approaches and conventional learning and the differences in the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who have high and low self-confidence. In addition, this study aims to determine the effect of the interaction between learning approaches and self-confidence on the ability to understand mathematical concepts. This research was carried out at SDN Pasauran 1, Cinangka District. The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental design with 2x2 level treatment. The data collection technique was a concept understanding test and a student self-confidence questionnaire. Testing the research hypothesis using two-way analysis of variance. Before testing the hypothesis, the data must meet the assumptions of normality and homogeneity, the test results show that the data is normally distributed and homogeneous. The results of the two-way analysis of variance test show that: there is a significant difference between students who are taught through inductive approach learning and conventional learning, there is a significant difference between students who have high and low self-confidence, there is an interaction effect between the learning approach and self-confidence on the ability to understand mathematical concepts and there are differences in the ability to understand mathematical concepts between students who are taught through inductive and conventional learning approaches, both for students who have high and low self-confidence.
