Abstract

Abstract. An activity or thinking process that undertaken to make someone able to solve a mathematics problem have relation with the ability to remember, recognizing the relationship between mathematical concepts, so that it can bring up a new idea in making conclusion appropriately. Therefore, thinking reflectively is an ability to connect the knowledge that he get with his old knowledge, so that there is a conclusion to solve a new problem. This research was to describe student’s reflective thinking in solving mathematics problem for linear equation system with two variables. This research used qualitative descriptive research with the students of VIII A Class at SMP Negeri 4 Jember as the research subject. Intsrument that was used were written test in the form of 5 description questions and interview guidelines. From 32 students of VIII A class who took the test there were 5 students who followed the interview. The five subjects was students who fulfill all of reflective thinking indicators then to be subjected for the research. Based on the research it was obtained a result that from five students there were four subjects who were able to think reflectively in solving mathematic questions and one subject was able enough to think reflectively in solving mathematic question Keyword: Thinking Reflectively, Solving Mathematics problem

Abstract

Abstract. High order thinking skill becomes a goal in the learning activities in Curriculum 2013. High order thinking skill is closely related to how students solve problems in mathematics. To measure students' level of problem solving skills requires an unusual test, which not only contains routine questions and low level questions. One of the mathematics lessons that can familiarize students to use their problem-solving power to measure students' high order thinking in the part of mathematics is the use of open-ended questions. A learning strategy that supports the use of open-ended questions is a collaborative learning strategy. The process of developing open-questions of high-level thinking through 4 stages, namely: (a) preliminary stage (preliminary); (B) the stage of self evaluation (analysis and design); (C) prototyping stage (validation, evaluation and revision); And (d) field test stage. The results of this study indicate that the developed instrument is worthy to be used to measure students' high-order thinking skill. It is based on the validity test with the value of Va generally reach 4.27 with valid interpretation. Reliability test obtained reliability tested in class VIII C and VIII D are 0.7999 and 0.8166 respectively with high interpretation. Based on the difficulty level test obtained the level of difficulty of open questions meet the criteria of a good degree of difficulty. Based on the result of the experiment, it is also known that overall students who have high order thinking skill with good category are 22 students (61,11%) from 36 students in class VIII C and 18 students (51,43%) from 35 students in class VIII D. Key Words: Open Ended Problem, Measuring High Order Thinking Skills, Collaborative Learning

Abstract

Abstract. The research aims to describe the students’ thinking process of 9th grade of Junior High School in solving the open problem according to their capability in solving problem based on Polya’s solution step. Data analysis is done based on written test and interview techniques. The subject of research is students of IXA class at SMPN 7 Jember in odd semester academic year 2013-2014. The data of research are obtained by validation sheet, written test, and interview techniques. Students experience disequilibrium when they don’t understand about the qestion’s sentence and when she can’t determine the ways to solve the problem, also when she can’t determine the ways to check the result that has already gotten when she does the plans. Students experience assimilation when they can mention what is known and what is asked  from the problems immediately without reck of true or false, also when  they can determine the ways to solve the problems and when they are doing the computations. Students experience accomodation when they are quiet and confuse before they can determine the problem’s condition, also when she is doing the computation and when she is quite before she can determine the ways to solve the problem. Students experience assimilation and accomodation to reach the equilibrium phase. Key Words: thinking process, open problem, and Polya’s solution step.

Abstract

Abstract. The purpose of this research is describing the attitude preference and the social interaction of students in learning mathematics by using Collaborating Learning model. The data collection method was observation in a class of SMPN 4 Jember, which’s 8A. The analysis can be seen from the students’ observation sheet including the attitude indicator to mathematics learning and the indicator of social interaction in the mathematics learning. After that, the researcher examined the relation between the result of the observation and the factors which’s influencing the students’ attitude and social interaction. The students’ attitude to the mathematics learning has three components which are (1) Students’ emotion, (2) Students’ point of view to the mathematics learning, and (3) students’ confidence. The social interaction can be happened under condition (1) there is a contact (2) there is a communication. The students have a preference to have a good attitude to the mathematics learning which’s shown by some positive scores in the component of attitude. The students’ social interaction is disposed to be positive attitude which’s shown by a good cooperation among students in a group so that, they got a maximal result of their study. Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to identify student misconception in solving PISA standard mathematic problems using CRI (Certainty of Responses Index), to describe and determine the percentage of forms of student misconception. The instrument used in this study is reasonable multiple choice test and interview guidelines. To answer the question, students are required to write the process in solving the question and choose the answer, besides the students are asked to put CRI value (0-5) based on their level of confidence in answering the question. A student can be declared to understand the concept, misconception and ignorance of the concept by comparing the answer with CRI value which is filled by the students, and the misconception form that occurred can be determined by checking the process in solving the question. Based on the research result, the misconception percentage on the aspect of the process of formulating the situation mathematically on PISA problem is 18, 25%, on the aspect of the process of using concept, fact, procedure and mathematic reasoning the misconception percentage is 7,76% and on the aspect of the process of interpreting, applying, and evaluating mathematic result, the misconception percentage is 13,8%. The misconception forms that occurred are 13,6% of translation misconception, 7,7% misconception of concept, 10,6% of misconception of strategy, 9,1% of systematical misconception, 4,5% of misconception sign.and 4,5% of misconception on calculation. A student xii-ipa 1 man 3 jember from 17 years in resolving about opportunities , able to reach 5 an indicator of 6 the indicators used the reason , inference , situation , clarity and overview. Students at age it not thorough in doing this is that there is a subject not capable of wrote indicators the focus . A student xii-ipa 1 man 3 jember from 16 years in finish about opportunities , able to reach 5 an indicator of 6 the indicators used the focus , reason , situation , clarity and overview .Same as well as earlier age , students is also not thorough to work thus unable to write indicator to three categories inference . Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to produce valid 4C’s indicator which is in line with the curriculum of 2013 in mathematics subject of second semester elevent grade of senior high school (SMA/MA). The type of research used is a modified Plomp development model consisting of 4 phases: preliminary investigation, design phase, realization/contruction phase, and test, evaluation and revision phase. The development of this research is the 4C’s indicator which is in line with the curriculum of 2013 in mathematics subjects second semester elevent grade of senior high school (SMA/MA) consisting of 4 chapters, namely: sequence and series, algebraic function limit, algebraic function derivative, and indefinite integral algebra function. The instrument which was used is the validation of 4C’s indicator which is in line with the curriculum of 2013. The results of this development are validated by 5 validators, namely 2 lecturers of Mathematics Education Study Program of Jember University and 3 mathematics teachers of SMAN Arjasa. The results of the development of 4C’s indicator has a coefficient of 3.93 validity results which is categorized as “well”. So the development of 4C’s indiator in line with the curriculum of 2013 in the mathematics subject of second semester elevent grade of senior high school (SMA/MA) has met the criteria of validity.
