Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the physical quality of liquid body wash containing Centella asiatica (L.). Urb. Extract and patchouli oil to determine the optimal concentration for safe and effective use, with the hypothesis that varying concentrations would affect pH, viscosity, foam stability, and overall product quality. Research Method: An experimental post-test control design was conducted at the Pharmaceutical Technology Laboratory of Cendekia Utama Kudus Health Technology Institute, with irritation tests performed at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kudus. Four formulations (F0–F3) contained pegagan extract (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%) and patchouli oil (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%). Physical evaluations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, foam height, and irritation tests. Data were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk, Levene’s test, and One-Way ANOVA. Results and Discussion: All formulations met SNI standards for liquid soap. Formula 1 (5% extract, 1% patchouli oil) exhibited the most balanced properties, with a neutral pH (6.06), suitable viscosity (695 mPas), stable foam height (13.50 mm), and no irritation. Higher extract concentrations reduced viscosity but did not significantly affect foam height. No formula caused redness or itching in volunteers. Implications: Formula 1 is recommended for further development as a natural, skin-safe liquid body wash. Future studies should assess the long-term stability, consumer acceptance, and commercial feasibility of these products.

Abstract

Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection that remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. The success of pneumonia therapy depends heavily on patient compliance in using antibiotics appropriately. However, patient compliance with antibiotic treatment remains low, which risks relapse and antibiotic resistance. One important factor that can improve understanding is presenting drug information accurately and clearly. This study aims to determine the effect of providing drug information on the level of antibiotic compliance in pneumonia patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gubug Hospital. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, involving two groups of pneumonia patients: those before and after receiving drug information intervention using leaflets. Compliance levels were measured using the MARS (Medication Adherence Rating Scale) questionnaire before and after the intervention. The results of the study will compare the significance of antibiotic compliance levels in the pre- and post-intervention groups (p < 0.05) using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Patients who were provided with information showed a better understanding of the importance of completing antibiotic therapy as recommended. In conclusion, providing effective drug information can improve patient adherence to antibiotic use, contributing to successful therapy and preventing resistance. These results can serve as a basis for developing drug information intervention programs in hospitals

Abstract

Body odor problems triggered by the activity of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus are a concern in tropical regions such as Indonesia, which have high temperatures and humidity. Long-term use of synthetic chemical deodorants carries the risk of side effects, so safe and effective natural alternatives are needed. This study aims to formulate and evaluate the physical stability and antibacterial effectiveness of a spray deodorant preparation made from a combination of red betel leaf extract (Piper crocatum Ruiz and Pav.) and starfruit leaf extract (Averrhoa bilimbi L.). The extract was obtained through a maceration method with 70% ethanol as a solvent. This study used a laboratory experimental design with a quantitative approach. The study population was a spray deodorant preparation formulated in four variations: F0 (Negative control), F1 (7.5% red betel leaf + 2.5% starfruit leaf), F2 (5% + 5%), and F3 (2.5% + 7.5%). Physical stability tests included organoleptic tests, pH, displaced volume, and homogeneity. Antibacterial activity test was carried out using the well diffusion method against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Data analysis was performed using normality test, homogeneity test, and one-way ANOVA test, and Tukey HSD post-hoc test. The results showed significant differences between treatment groups, but no significant differences between test formulas. All formulas met physical stability standards and showed strong antibacterial activity (inhibition zone 12.1 -14.37 mm). Formula F2 showed the highest inhibition, indicating a synergistic effect of a balanced extract ratio. This study contributes to the development of natural spray deodorant products that are safe, effective, and have the potential to replace synthetic ingredients in pharmaceutical formulations.
