Abstract

This study aims to analyze the improvement in reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Wonokromo I/390 Surabaya by applying the SQ3R model assisted by the Canva application. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The data collected includes the results of assessing students' reading comprehension skills from two meetings in each cycle. The data collection techniques used include observation, interviews, and documentation, sourced from primary and secondary data. The primary data obtained are the results of student assessments on reading comprehension materials through the Canva media, while the secondary data come from books, journals, and articles as reference materials. The data analysis was conducted through the processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that in the first cycle, the average student score was 71.11% in the first meeting and increased to 74.81% in the second meeting, although this improvement did not yet meet the success indicators. After reflection and improvement, in the second cycle, the average student score reached 82.96% in the first meeting and 93.33% in the second meeting, thus it can be stated that the implementation of this method was successful. This study confirms that the use of the SQ3R model with the help of the Canva application is efficacious in improving students' reading comprehension skills, encouraging active engagement, and facilitating a better understanding of the texts read.

Abstract

Reading is the main foundation in literacy development because it not only enriches language skills but also broadens students' horizons. In the context of basic education, reading and writing skills are very important to shape the character and critical thinking skills of students. However, low interest in reading and limited access to information, especially in several regions in Indonesia, are still serious challenges that affect the quality of education and human resource development (UNESCO). This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research type. The data collection process uses a method of finding sources and constructing from various sources, for example books, articles and research that has been done. The aim is to describe the role of reading literacy in increasing children's reading interest in elementary schools. This approach was chosen because researchers wanted to understand in depth how reading literacy activities are implemented and how they impact students' reading interest.

Abstract

Produksi jagung manis di Indonesia mengalami penurunan pada tahun 2019 dan 2020. Penurunan produksi jagung dalam negeri cukup besar, hal ini disebabkan penerapan teknik budidaya yang kurang tepat. Peningkatan produksi tanaman dapat dilakukan melalui penambahan unsur hara dan zat pengatur tumbuh.  Penambahan Paclobutrazol dan pupuk Kalium diharapkan dapat meningkatkan produksi jagung manis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh paclobutrazol dan pupuk kalium terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman jagung manis. Percobaan menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok faktorial dengan faktor pertama yaitu konsentrasi paclobutrazol yakni P1: tanpa Paclobutrazol, P2: 500ppm, P3; 1000ppm. Sedangkan faktor kedua yaitu dosis pupuk kalium yang terdiri dari K1: 150kg/ha, K2; 200kg/ha, K3: 250kg/ha. Seluruh perlakuan diulang sebanyak 3 kali Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa pemberian paclobutrazol dan pupuk kalium memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman yang meliputi diameter pangkal batang, umur berbunga, panjang tongkol, berat tongkol, diameter tongkol, kandungan gula terlarut dan indeks klorofil daun. Perlakuan yang terbaik dalam percobaan ini yaitu perlakuan P3K3, paclobutrazol (1000 ppm), dan dosis kalium (250 kg/ha).

Abstract

Elementary school students tend to experience boredom when studying mathematics, because teachers have not used interesting learning media so that student learning outcomes decrease. This research aims to determine the effect of using Powtoon media on mathematics learning outcomes on the topic of time measurement for fifth grade elementary school students. This type of quantitative research uses the Pre-Experiment Design method with One Group Pre-Test Post-Test Design. The data collection technique was a written test with a saturated sample in class V, totaling 15 students. Data analysis uses Non-Parametric Inferential Statistics with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Descriptive Statistics. This research uses a data normality test with the Shapiro Wilk Test. Before being given treatment, the average pre-test score for students was 58.66% and after being treated with Powtoon media there was a significant increase with the average post-test score increasing to 76.00%. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test show the value of Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.002. Because this value is less than <0.05, Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of Powtoon media has an influence on mathematics learning outcomes on the topic of measuring time for class V students. This research includes increasing the use of interactive learning media in the educational process, provides empirical evidence about the effectiveness of Powtoon media in improving student learning outcomes, which can be used as a reference for teachers and curriculum developers to improve the quality of mathematics learning.

Abstract

The majority of residents in Suling Wetan Village work as farmers and rely heavily on self-produced seeds due to the village’s remote location. One high-potential crop for marginal lands in the area is patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), a plant valued for its essential oil. However, the propagation of patchouli remains a significant challenge for local farmers due to limited knowledge and skills. This community engagement program aimed to enhance farmers’ capacities in patchouli propagation through a combination of awareness campaigns, technical workshops, hands-on training, direct field mentoring, and participatory monitoring and evaluation. Evaluation was conducted through direct observation and participant surveys. The results showed that 96% of participants gained a clear understanding of patchouli propagation techniques, and all participants acknowledged the importance of the program and expressed hope for its continuation. The activity successfully contributed to increasing farmers’ independence in sustainable patchouli seedling production.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the main subjects that must be taught at school. Good mathematical skills are needed to overcome various daily challenges. However, many students still have difficulty understanding mathematical concepts especially when faced with story problems and student participation in learning is also still low. The purpose of this research is to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of interactive e-comic learning media. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) which is modified into 3D. The instruments used are validation sheets, student and teacher response questionnaires, and tests. The validity of the product is obtained from the media expert validation results of 94%, categorized as very valid. The practicality of the e-comic is obtained from student responses with a percentage of 93% and teacher responses at 96%, both categorized as very practical. The effectiveness of the product is determined from students' learning outcomes tests. Based on the student learning achievement test, the percentage of classical completeness is 100% with the category of students meeting the criteria for achieving learning objectives, and interactive e-comic s are effective to use. Based on the results of this study, interactive e-comic s can be said to be valid, practical, and effective for use in 4th grade Mathematics subjects.

Abstract

Gingseng jawa merupakan tumbuhan liar yang bernilai ekonomi tinggi namun tidak bernilai bagi masyarakat desa arjasa karena mereka tidak mengetahui manfaat tanaman tersebut. Kegiatan yang telah dilakukan untuk memberikan solusi adalah sosialisasi dan pelatihan budidaya gingseng jawa dengan memperhatikan tata Kelola lingkungan warga dan pengenalan pemasaran digital. Kegiatan itu tidak cukup berhasil karena masyarakat tidak dapat melakukan hilirisasi hasil panen gingseng jawa sehingga dibuat kegiatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan pengolahan pasca panen dan cara melakukan persiapan promosi dan penjualan melalui whats app dan Instagram dengan membuat konten menarik. Metode yang digunakan adalah PRA dengan mengimplementasikan pembelajaran offline dan online melalui youtube, zoom dan  Instagram. Tantangan pelatihan online adalah partisipasi peserta sangat lemah sehingga dengan menggunakan social media sebagai wadah sharing pengetahuan dengan mengimplementasikan 5 prinsip social media dan gamifikasi pada konten mampu membantu transfer pengetahuan dari tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat terbukti pengunjung dan peserta sering melihat dan melakukan like serta mengikuti poling yang diberikan dan mencoba pengolahan pasca panen serta mencoba membuat konten menarik.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effect of using Pa Pi (Smart Board) learning media on the learning interests of first grade elementary school students in mathematics subjects. The background of this research stems from the low interest in learning mathematics among elementary school students, which is caused by monotonous and less interactive teaching methods. Pa Pi media was developed to present addition material in a concrete and enjoyable way by utilizing unused materials such as wooden boards, cans, sticks, and straws. This research used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pretest-posttest model. The research subjects consisted of 24 first-grade students at UPT SDN 106 Gresik. The sample used was a saturated sample, as the entire population was included. The instrument used was a student learning interest questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test with the help of SPSS version 25. The results showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. The average pretest score was 25.38, which increased to 29.63 on the posttest, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. This indicates that the use of Pa Pi learning media has a significant effect on increasing students' learning interest. Therefore, Pa Pi media can serve as an innovative and effective alternative learning tool to enhance elementary school students’ interest in learning, particularly in mathematics.

Abstract

Orchids (Phalaenopsis sp.) are among the most valuable ornamental plants due to their wide range of flower colors and high commercial demand. However, conventional propagation methods are often inefficient for large-scale production, necessitating the optimization of tissue culture techniques for rapid and uniform clonal propagation. The use of appropriate plant growth regulators, particularly thidiazuron (TDZ), is crucial for enhancing somatic embryogenesis—a key pathway for orchid micropropagation. This study aimed to determine the optimal concentration of TDZ for inducing somatic embryogenesis in Phalaenopsis sp. through histological analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations. A completely randomized design was employed using Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with four TDZ concentrations (1, 3, 5, and 7 mg/L). Leaf explants of Phalaenopsis sp. served as the explant source. The results demonstrated that direct somatic embryogenesis successfully occurred from leaf explants across treatments. Among the tested concentrations, 5 mg/L TDZ produced the most effective response, resulting in the highest somatic embryo formation rate (32%) and the shortest time to embryo maturation (37 days after culture initiation). The embryos exhibited characteristic dark green coloration and a crumbly texture. These findings highlight the pivotal role of TDZ in promoting somatic embryogenesis in Phalaenopsis sp., providing a reliable protocol for efficient orchid propagation. The study contributes to the advancement of orchid biotechnology by offering histological and ultrastructural evidence that supports the optimization of clonal propagation systems for commercial and conservation purposes.

Abstract

Discipline is one of the fundamental character traits that must be instilled from an early age, especially at the elementary school level. Therefore, school culture plays a crucial role in shaping students' character, including their sense of discipline. This study aims to describe the school culture implemented at SD Giki 1 Surabaya in developing students’ discipline character, as well as to identify the obstacles encountered in the process. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques include observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students from grades II and IV. The findings indicate that the development of discipline character at SD Giki 1 is carried out through the habituation of positive activities such as the 5S program (Smile, Greet, Salute, Polite, Courteous), morning literacy, Dhuha prayer, class cleaning duties, and adherence to school rules. However, the school faces challenges such as external environmental influences and inconsistent application of values at home. In conclusion, a consistent, well-structured school culture supported by all parties is effective in fostering students’ discipline character.
