Abstract

This study aimed to describe the mathematical problem solving ability of class VIII MTsN 1 Mataram at academic year 2019/2020 in solving numbers pattern problems based on reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. This type of research was quantitative descriptive research. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII-6 MTsN 1 Mataram at academic year 2019/2020. Data retrieval were done by using the cognitive test and the test results of problem solving. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the number of reflective students were 14 students (63,6%) who were distributed into 5 students (22,7%) with high ability, 7 students (31,8%) with moderate ability, and 2 student (9,1%) with low ability. While the number of impulsive students were 8 students who distributed into 5 students (22,7%) with medium ability and 3 students (13,6%) with low ability. Those results showed that there were differences in problem solving abilities between students who had reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. Reflective students in solving problems had been able to meet all the indicators at the problem solving stage according to Polya namely understanding the problem, thinking about the plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. While impulsive students in solving problems had been able to fulfill the indicators thinking about plans and implementing plans. Impulsive students tend to skip the stages of understanding a problem and looking back.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of online learning using google classrooms during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Mathematics subject focusing on trigonometric equations in class XI MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Selong. This research is quantitative descriptive. The population in this study were all class XI MIPA taught using google classroom. The research sample was selected using cluster random sampling technique, namely class XI MIPA 1 and XI MIPA 2 measuring 70 students. The data collection technique used was the provision of post-test and questionnaire distribution after the students were treated. The research indicator, namely online learning using google classroom, is said to be effective if the student learning outcomes with a percentage of classical completeness ≥85% and student responses are positive to online learning using google classroom. Based on the results of descriptive statistics, if seen from the classical completeness, it was obtained that 60 students were said to have completed their learning or equal to 85,71%, 10 students who did not complete their studies or equal to 14,29% and seen from the students responses to online learning using google classroom there were 11 students who responded very positive or equal to 15,71%, 57 students responded positively or equal to 81,43%, 2 students responded negatively or equal to 2,86%, and no students responded very negatively. Based on the results of the research, online learning using google classroom was effective during the covid-19 pandemic in class XI MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Selong in the 2020/2021 school year.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a mind mapping-assisted problem-based learning model on the problem-solving abilities of class IX students at SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsari in the 2020/2021 school year. This type of research is a pre-experimental research using a one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were all grade IX students. While the sample in this study is class IX E with random cluster sampling. Based on the results of the pretest and posttest data analysis in the experimental class, it can be seen that the students' mathematical problem solving ability has increased by an average of 27%. Meanwhile, the results of the pretest and posttest data analysis in the control class increased by an average of 9%. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it is obtained that the value of ttable with a significant level = 5% and dk = 12 from the t-distribution list obtained ttable of 1.78 and tcount of 5.40 which means tcount > ttable, then H0 is rejected so H1 is accepted. This means that there is an effect of the problem-based learning model with the aid of mind mapping on the problem-solving abilities of class IX students at SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsari for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of verbal ability and numerical ability, the effect of verbal ability, and the effect of numerical ability on the ability of solving linear equation system problems. This study is an ex post facto research. The population of this study were students of class XI SMAN 9 Mataram. The sample in this study were 28 students of class XI SMAN 9 Mataram represented by four students in each class. The data analysis used is multiple linear regression analysis and simple linear regression analysis. From the results of the data analysis, there is a significant influence between verbal ability and numerical ability on the ability to solve linear equation system problems with a value of Fhitung = 3,660 > Ftabel = 3,39. The magnitude of this influence is written in the form of a regression equation, namely Y = 24,602 + 0,140X1 + 0,224X2. This regression equation shows that if the verbal ability score increases by 1 with a fixed numerical ability score, then the ability to solve math problems will increase by 0,140; and if the numerical ability score increases by 1 with a fixed verbal ability score, the value of the ability to solve story questions will increase by 0,225 and plus 24,602 from other factors.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe students' problem-solving abilities on geometry material based on Van Hiele's level of thinking in class VIII of SMPN 2 Wanasaba in the 2020/2021 school year. The method used in this study are tests and interviews. The results showed that the thinking level of students in class VIII D of SMP Negeri 2 Wanasaba was generally dominant at level 0 (visualization), as many as 13 people (48.14%) of the 27 students who took the test. In solving geometry problems according to Polya's stages, students who are at level 0 (visualization) have been able to do the stage of understanding the problem well but are still not perfect in making plans and implementing settlement plans. Students at level 1 (analysis) have been able to carry out the stages of understanding the problem, making plans and implementing plans, but in the stage of reviewing, students are not able to re-examine the results of the completion. Students at level 2 (informal deduction) are able to carry out the stages of understanding the problem, making plans, implementing a settlement plan and looking back even though they are not perfect at the stage of looking back. Students at level 3 (deduction) have very good problem solving skills, they are able to carry out the stages of understanding the problem, making plans, implementing plans and looking back appropriately and the calculation process is also carried out correctly. This shows that the higher the Van Hiele thinking level of the students, the better their geometric problem solving abilities will be.
