Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of students’ metacognition in solving abstract problems in physical material. The study involved students who took through the test. Metacognition ability data obtained through written test consisting of questions metacognitive knowledge and metacognition skills. Data analysis is done descriptively. The result of the research shows that declarative knowledge dominates students metacognition knowledge, that is students can recognize the difficult problem and able to interpret in other forms but less able to recognize method used and how to finish, while students' metacognition skills are more dominant in planning and monitoring fields. Prediction and evaluation skills are still relatively low. Overall, metacognition ability of students included in the low category.

Abstract

This research aimed to build physics concept understanding and to problem-solve in online learning through the concept attainment learning model. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The population was natural sciences students in grade XI of Public Islamic School 1 in Pringsewu, Lampung, Indonesia. The samples consisted of 35 grade XI students from class IPA 3 for the experimental group and 34 grade XI students from class IPA 2 for the control group. The concept understanding test consisted of ten problems referring to Anderson and Krotwall’s indicators. The problem-solving test consisted of five problems referring to problems developed by Savage and William. The test results of physics concept understanding and problem-solving ability were analyzed descriptively by grouping the data, calculating the n-gain, and interpreting the data. The difference in physics concept understanding and problem-solving between experimental and control classes were analyzed using an independent sample t-test. The result showed that the n-gains of physics concept understanding and problem-solving ability were in the high and moderate categories, respectively, for the experimental class and the moderate and moderate categories, respectively, for the control class. The independent sample t-test showed that conceptual understanding and problem-solving ability differed significantly between the experiment and control classrooms. This result indicated that the concept attainment model in online learning was better for building physics concept understanding and problem-solving ability for senior high school students than other conventional learning models.

Abstract

Teacher professional development programs extensively focus on enhancing teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Given the ongoing programs targeting the improvement of existing teachers’ PCK, there's an evident need for strategies that prepare future educators more effectively. While soft scaffolding has significantly contributed to fostering 21st-century skills among students, its potential in bolstering the PCK of prospective Physics teachers remains under-explored. This study addresses this gap by formulating a soft scaffolding strategy, tailored for post-pandemic learning scenarios, aimed at enriching the PCK of future physics educators. Employing a research and development approach, the ADDIE development design model was utilized. This strategy, termed EPiSODe, integrates key components: Encouraging students, Picking the learning concept, Simulating the learning process, Offering further consultation, and Demonstrating the learning process. Piloted with 52 prospective teachers in Lampung in their third year of Physics Courses, the strategy showcased effectiveness in augmenting their PCK.The results of the data analysis show that the soft scaffolding strategy was effective in increasing the PCK of prospective Physics teachers. The implications of this research include that soft scaffolding learning strategies can be implemented and adapted to the difficulties of candidates in developing PCK competencies. Therefore, to improve the quality of learning for prospective physics teachers and minimize misconceptions or low PCK, this strategy can continue to be developed in case-based learning activities or team-based projects at the higher education level.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the level of digital literacy and collaboration skills of students. The research method used a quantitative descriptive survey with a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The study involved 10 physics teachers and 105 high school students in Lampung Province. The results showed that the digital literacy of students was in the sufficient category with the achievement percentage of 54.68%, while the collaborative abilities of students were in the poor category with the achievement percentage of 39.17%. Digital literacy has not been maximally achieved and the ability to collaborate in students is influenced by the lack of efforts of students to use the internet as a learning resource and the lack of student-centered learning.

Abstract

Appropriate learning resources are required when delivering problem-based physics materials integrated with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This research aims to create a valid, practical, and effective problem-based e-module integrated with STEM and supported by an LMS (Learning Management System) to train creative thinking skills on harmonic vibration material. The 4-D development model was used in this research (define, design, development, and disseminate). The study of tenth-grade students from class MIA 1 at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Purbolinggo revealed that the developed e-module had a content validity test result of 89 % and a constructs test result of 88%. The practicality test of the readability aspect yielded an 80% result, and the implementation yielded a 79.07% result.Furthermore, the n-gain value for the effectiveness test based on improvement was 0.54 in the medium category. Furthermore, there was a difference in average pretest and posttest scores with less than 0.05. It is possible to conclude that the developed e-module is appropriate for training students' creative thinking skills. Further researchers are expected to develop platform-assisted e-modules that are more interactive and easier to use in future research.
