Abstract

Abstract

Breaststroke requires precise coordination across distinct movement phases to achieve optimal propulsion and efficiency. This study aimed to analyze breaststroke technique based on movement phases among athletes of the Bumi Phala Swimming Team, Temanggung. A descriptive quantitative design was applied involving 20 athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained using underwater video recordings from front, side, and rear perspectives and analyzed through frame-by-frame motion analysis using Kinovea software (version 0.9.5). The analysis focused on the glide phase, arm pull (outsweep–insweep), breathing, recovery and leg kick, and arm–leg coordination. The results showed that overall technique was classified as fairly good, with the highest conformity observed in the arm pull and breathing phases. In contrast, inconsistencies were identified in the glide and leg kick phases, indicating reduced movement efficiency. These findings highlight the need for phase-specific technical evaluation to support targeted coaching interventions, particularly to optimize glide and kicking mechanics for improved breaststroke performance.

Abstract

The hook technique in arm wrestling requires optimal coordination, strength, and joint stability; however, improper execution may reduce effectiveness and increase injury risk. This study aimed to analyze the biomechanical effectiveness of the hook technique performed by athletes from the Indonesian Arm Wrestling Sports Association (POGTI) in Semarang. A quantitative descriptive approach was used involving 10 elite athletes selected purposively. High-speed video analysis using Kinovea software (version 0.9.5) measured key kinematic variables, including wrist flexion, elbow angle, shoulder angle, and shoulder distance across the preparation, execution, and completion phases. The results revealed a consistent biomechanical pattern, indicated by a significant decrease in wrist angle from 173.12° ± 4.54° during preparation to 91.40° ± 27.00° at completion, showing the dominance of the cupping mechanism. Shoulder distance remained stable at 24–26 cm, reflecting adherence to the chain principle, which supports optimal force transfer and injury prevention. These findings confirm that the hook technique applied by POGTI Semarang athletes aligns with global biomechanical standards in terms of efficiency and safety. Therefore, it is recommended to incorporate wrist flexor strengthening and isometric elbow training to further enhance performance and reduce injury risk.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the profile of lower limb explosive power, lower limb muscle strength, and body mass index (BMI) of Sports Science student athletes. The study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The re-search sample consisted of 48 male student athletes selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through direct testing and measurements, including the Jump DF test to measure lower limb explosive pow-er, a leg dynamometer to assess lower limb muscle strength, and body height and weight measurements to calculate body mass index. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value, frequency, and percentage. The results showed that the average Jump DF score was 56.7 cm, with the majority of students categorized as Good (54.17%) and Excellent (20.83%). The average leg dynamometer result was 155.5 kg, with most students categorized as Excellent (75.00%) and Good (25.00%). The average BMI was 22.3 kg/m², with the majority of students classified as Normal (56.25%). The findings of this study indicate that male student athletes possess good lower limb explosive power, very good lower limb muscle strength, and predominantly normal BMI values. The results also revealed that lower limb mus-cle strength tended to be more dominant than lower limb explosive power. Therefore, physical development programs should focus on converting strength into explosive ability through power and plyometric training. These findings may serve as a basis for designing physical development programs for student ath-letes.

Abstract

Backhand netting is an essential skill in badminton, helping players control the pace of play while creating scoring opportunities. Its effectiveness depends on shuttlecock placement accuracy, trajectory quality over the net, and its ability to land where the opponent struggles to reach it. This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of the backhand netting technique among athletes of the Badminton Student Activity Unit (UKM) at Universitas Negeri Semarang and identify its contributing biomechanical factors. A descriptive-correlational quantitative approach was used, involving ten male athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a backhand netting skill test with three assessment indicators and 2D kinematic video analysis using Kinovea software, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. Results showed a mean effectiveness score of 10.10 out of 12, with eight athletes (80%) classified as very effective and two (20%) as effective. Kinematic analysis further revealed a significant, strong positive correlation between the final elbow angle during follow-through and effectiveness score (r = 0.692, p = 0.027). Overall, the athletes' backhand netting technique was highly effective, driven mainly by optimal elbow extension during follow-through, offering coaches valuable insight for evaluating technical performance through biomechanical technology.

Abstract

The back kick is a technique in the seventh move of pencak silat single art that requires body rotation and kicking without looking at the target, so its execution is often inaccurate. The purpose of this study is to analyse the back kick technique in the single art category using a biomechanical approach. The method used was descriptive analysis with purposive sampling, involving six active athletes in the single art category. Data were collected through observation and documentation, and the Kinovea 0.9.5 application was used for motion analysis, focusing on the execution phase, particularly to measure the kicking angle and the distance between the supporting hand and foot. The results of the study showed that the athletes' kicking techniques met the appropriate criteria. The average distance between the supporting hand and foot was 45.81 ± 14.67 cm, with a range of 24.34 cm to 65.10 cm, while the average kicking angle reached 101.17° ± 12.73°, ranging from 86.5° to 118.2°. Out of the six athletes, three achieved the optimal kicking angle, influenced by the balance between the distance between the hands and feet and the body flexion angle. The more ideal the distance between the hands and feet and the body flexion angle, the higher and more stable the kick produced. Further research is expected to examine the analysis of back kicks in greater depth and specificity, including aspects such as speed, distance, angle, body segmentation, strength, and the muscles involved.
