Abstract

This study aims to develop and validate the construct of structured meals environment scale. The method used was a cross-sectional survey. The participants were working mothers with early-aged children. The structured meals environment scale used Likert scale which consists of three dimensions: structured meals setting, structured meals timing, and family meals setting. The results of EFA (N = 302) showed that the scale explains the construct of a structured meals environment was 63.98%. The results of CFA (N = 202) showed that the goodness of fit model was acceptable. Factors loading > .5 (.503 - .819) shows the items are valid. Discriminant validity (AVE) moves from .482 - .577 with construct reliability > .7 (.760 - .802). Structured meals environment scale has met the psychometric property test so that the scale is proper to be used.

Simple random sampling technique was used to recruit 93 twelve-grades SMKN "X" Malang students majoring in Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan (TKJ) and Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak (RPL). We used adapted instruments consist of LGO Scale, Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS). The simultaneously regression test shows that both LGO and Big Five Personality has an effect to carrier adaptability (37%). LGO partially has effect on carrier adaptability. For all big five personality dimensions, opennes to experience has effect to carrier adaptability but other dimensions such as extraversion, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and agreeableness has no effect.

Abstract

Teaching motivation of teachers is very important for student’s development. The purpose of this study is to test the teaching motivation of teachers in disadvantaged areas affected by the school climate and self-concept through the satisfaction of basic psychological needs. The subjects of this research were 241 teachers. Data collection techniques used instruments in the form of a school climate scale, a scale of self-concept, a scale of basic psychological need satisfaction, and a scale of teaching motivation. The data analysis techniques used a structural equation modeling. The results showed that the attention of teachers who teach in disadvantaged areas shows that the school climate and teacher’s self-concept differently provide an important role in teaching motivation mediated by the basic psychological needs satisfaction. This means that teaching motivation is a result of the role of the school climate as an external factor and satisfaction of basic psychological needs and self-concept as an internal factor. The implication of this research is the need for programs to develop teacher motivation in disadvantaged areas by optimizing and considering school climate, self-concept, and satisfaction of basic psychological needs as influential factors.

Abstract

Nowadays, most children play digital games. Digital games, despite their advantages, have gradually eroded the existence of traditional games. Although both digital and traditional games comprise the values of problem-solving learning for children, traditional games offer more benefits in terms of the embodiment of local wisdom. This study aimed at encompassing the influence of Javanese traditional games such as bekelan, congklak lidi, and selentikan on the improvement of children’s problem-solving skills. This research was done employing quasi-experimental design involving 72 school-age children ranging from 9 to 11 years old, who studied at primary schools. The subjects of this study consisted of four experimental groups. Three groups played bekelan, congklak lidi, selentikan games respectively and the other group was assigned as the control group. The treatment was done for three weeks divided into six sessions. The findings showed that there was a significant improvement between the result of the pre-test and that of the post-test for these three games. The analysis results using One Way ANOVA showed that there was a difference in the improvement of problem-solving skills among groups (F(17) = 5.032, p .01). Due to its superiority, Javanese traditional games are potential to be an alternative media in improving children’s problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Engaging in intellectual activities and seek new knowledge is critical for Indonesian students. However, most learning activities in elementary and secondary schools in Indonesia are centered on rote learning. This study aimed to provide an initial description of how middle school students in Indonesia value intellectual activities and describe the level of epistemological understanding that underlie how they value intellectual activities. Sixty-eight middle school students were involved in this study by giving their responses to intellectual values questions. Descriptive analysis was conducted to examine the percentage of participants who endorse discussion. Additionally, the reasons for endorsing discussion were also examined to determine the epistemological understanding level. The percentage of participants that endorse discussion in question one, two, and three was 71%, 47%, and 50%, respectively. While 24% of participants consistently endorsed discussion in all three questions. Most students gave reasons that indicate absolutist or multiplist level of an epistemological understanding. Very few reasons can be categorized into the evaluativist level. Students seem to believe that discussion is important to do to solve the problems. Most students have yet to perceive the intellectual activity as an essential tool to enhance their understanding and acquire new knowledge, as an evaluativist would.

Abstract

The mother of children with autism is the most vulnerable person to have stress and depression. Therefore they need positive psychological well-being to optimize the caring of children. Family is the primary environment in supporting the mother's mental health. This study aimed to find out how family functions correlate with psychological well-being among the mother of a child with autism. A quantitative approach was applied, involving 142 mothers who had autistic children selected through purposive sampling techniques. The data was collected using Family Functioning and Psychological Well-being instruments. The data was then analyzed with regression analysis. The results show that family functioning and psychological well-being are correlated significantly. The more effective family function based on the perception of the mother, the higher the psychological well-being of the mother, and vice versa. Problem-solving, communication, affective response, and role are dimensions that influence psychological well-being, while behavior control and affection dimensions are not significant. The results of the study can provide input suggestions for the government, such as through family empowerment regarding the importance of supporting and optimizing the role of family members to stimulate the psychological well-being of mothers of children with an autism spectrum disorder.

Abstract

Students with physical disabilities experience many problems with learning. The self-regulated learning model is an independent learning model that teaches students how to effectively organize and manage themselves, to ensure optimal learning outcomes. Our purpose is to analyze how teacher support and academic self-efficacy could influence the self-regulated learning model, specifically with academic self-efficacy as a mediating variable. We used survey as our research instrument. Meanwhile, the analysis method used path analysis. Our findings show that academic self-efficacy could significantly increase the self-regulated learning of physically disabled students. Teacher support had a minimal effect on improving the self-regulated learning of physically disabled students. We also found the importance of academic self-concept as a mediator in increasing self-regulated learning of physically disabled students. Future research is advised to include other social support variables such as parental and peer support into the model. Our findings can be used as a reference for developing a curriculum on a self-regulated learning model for disabled students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to adapt the Brief adolescents' subjective wellbeing in BASWBSS school and to analyze the psychometric properties of the BASWBSS in Indonesian samples. BASWBSS development consists of two components, namely cognitive and affective. The research subjects were 275 students in four high school schools in Surabaya. The psychometric properties of the items are generally adequate with a good estimate of the loading factor. In the dimension of satisfaction at school, the estimated loading factor is 0.60 to 0.82. The dimension of affect in schools is the estimated value of the loading factor from 0.76 to 0.81. The first-order CFA model showed a good fit with P> 0.05 = 0.046, RMSEA =. 0.047, GFI = 0.94, CFI = 0.99, SRMR = 0.04. Construct reliability on satisfaction at school is 0.887 and the impact dimension at school is 0.762. Keywords: satisfaction at school, affect at school, students
