Abstract

Verbalizers (VBLZ) are morphemes which create verbs from other word types such as the noun, adjective, and other verb. This study traces, characterizes, and formulated the VBLZ of the Toba Batak Language (TBL). The data was the written and spoken form of the Toba language. The analysis was designed in qualitative descriptive and is ordered according to the focuses of the study of (1) lists of the VBLZ, (2) the way the VBLZ created verbs, and (3) the classification of the VBLZ. There are 3 findings in this study. Firstly, there are 5 VBLZ in the TBL; mar-, maN-, pa-, -on, and -i. The VBLZ created verbs directly and indirectly which determined the VBLZ into the first and second. Furthermore, the VBLZ are classified according to the impacts in creating verbs into primary VBLZ (the affixes of aspects of verb pa-, -on, and -i), and secondary VBLZ of mar- and maN-.

Abstract

This qualitative research of linguistic landscapes in Subak Sembung Ecotourism Area Denpasar. in order to understand how written language in the public domain portrays identity and social dynamics. The study uses a sociolinguistic approach to analyze 11 data samples according to the sign creator's category (top-down and bottom-up), the Spolsky and Cooper (1991) taxonomy, and Landry and Bourhis theory of language functions. The study's primary focus is on the use of language and its symbolic and informational functions in public texts at locations that combine traditional agriculture with sustainable tourism. According to research, the majority of public discourse is conducted in Indonesian, followed by English and Balinese. The use of Balinese script as a symbol of local cultural identity reflects the symbolic function, while the informative function is more prominent in the transmission of practical instructions. Nevertheless, there were overlaps in writing techniques and deviations from grammatical rules. The study concluded that, in the context of ecotourism, it is crucial to standardize writing in accordance with national standards and strengthen the Balinese script in order to preserve culture (Landry & Bourhis, 1997).

Abstract

This study explores how presuppositions are triggered in Selena Gomez’s interview at signal 2023 has been uploaded on YouTube, focusing on how these implicit meanings contribute to the motivational and emotional tone of her responses. The research applies Yule’s (1996) theory of presupposition, which classifies six types of triggers: existential, factive, lexical, structural, non-factive, and counterfactual. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected from the verified transcript of the interview. The analysis identified 15 presuppositions, with existential and factive types occurring most frequently. These dominant types reveal how Gomez uses personal experiences, emotions, and reflections to convey sincerity and inspire her audience implicitly. The findings indicate that presupposition functions not only as a pragmatic device but also as a rhetorical strategy that strengthens authenticity and engagement in natural conversation. Thus, this study affirms that presuppositions play a vital role in constructing meaning and emotional connection within real-life interviews.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact and efficacy of the Online Speaking Test (OST) application on students' motivation and self-efficacy to optimize English learning and produce students with greater English language proficiency. Using a variety of techniques, such as pre-test, observation, interviews, treatment in using the OST, and post-tests to see whether changes had occurred before and after the treatment, 102 university students from various faculties in Bali’s university participated in this study. Employing the OST, the research revealed variations between the factors of rising and decreasing student motivation, anxiety, and self-confidence following treatment and post-treatment. Nevertheless, there was a very small variation in the proportion of students whose self-confidence improved following therapy, which was brought on by variations in the students' English proficiency levels. The students with excellent proficiency inboth comprehending and using English did not encounter major challenges when using the online speaking test. Students who feel less confident, on the other hand, have a different experience. Due to differences in prior learning experience, learner characteristics, teaching and learning methods, learners’ motivations and the urgency of language acquisition, an OST may results differently according several factors affecting the learners intrinsically and extrinsically.
