Abstract

Food security is a critical aspect of regional development, particularly in metropolitan areas that function as centers of consumption, production, and distribution. This study aims to identify leading food commodities in the PEKANSIKAWAN Metropolitan Area of Riau Province, which includes Pekanbaru City, Kampar Regency, Siak Regency, and Pelalawan Regency, and to provide recommendations for strengthening regional food security. The research employed Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift Share Analysis (SSA) to examine comparative and competitive advantages across the four regions. The analysis identified four key commodities: poultry meat in Pekanbaru City, aquaculture fish in Kampar Regency, rice and onions in Siak Regency, and agroindustry-based rice and fish in Pelalawan Regency. These commodities form a complementary system that enhances interregional synergy and food supply resilience. The findings indicate that optimizing interregional linkages through collaborative investment, integrated supply chains, and food system clusters is essential to address both production disparities and consumption needs. The conclusion emphasizes that the metropolitan scale provides unique opportunities to combine local strengths into a coherent regional food system, which can better support the availability, accessibility, and stability of food. Policy implications highlight the need for strategic investment in irrigation, cold chain logistics, and digital market platforms, alongside institutional strengthening through farmer cooperatives, financial access, and capacity building. The study contributes scientifically by integrating territorial analysis with quantitative methods in a metropolitan context, offering both theoretical enrichment for food security literature and practical guidance for regional policymakers.

Abstract

Bondowoso Regency, as a developing rural and semi-urban area, faces dynamic development challenges, particularly inter-district development disparities and uneven concentrations of economic activity. This inequality reflects a disparity between districts in terms of facilities, accessibility, and the distribution of economic activity centers. The determination of growth centers is a crucial strategy for identifying areas with the potential to be drivers of development. This study aimed to determine the growth center and the accessibility-based spatial interaction in Bondowoso Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The methods used for this study were scalogram, gravity, and overlay analysis. The results showed that Bondowoso District has 561 facility units with a regional development index value of 69.86 (Hierarchy I). This indicates its role as a growth center that can influence the strength of spatial interactions between districts in Bondowoso Regency. The highest spatial interaction value was found in Tenggarang District at 39,708, while the lowest was in Sukosari District at 3,980. The optimization of these central places is expected to create a polarization effect and increase the attractiveness of the surrounding areas. This can be a consideration for the Bondowoso Regency government in determining the direction of development to reduce inter-regional inequality.

Abstract

This paper studies the effect of domestic and foreign macroeconomy performances on the foreign direct investment (PMA) in Indonesia, employing descriptive and inferencial (econometric model) analyses. The national economic grcwth and national interest rate affect significantly PMA in Indonesia. While the national inflation rate positively effected on PMA, but resuits show that hyperinflation contributes to decreasing PMA. The macroeconomic improvement in some competitor countries, especially Chinese and Thailand tends to decrease PMA in Indonesia. However, the improvement of macroeconomies in Singapore and Malaysia can increase PMA in Indonesia. Therefore, bilateral relationship with these countries must be intensified. In addition, although the economic growth of some More Developed Countries (MDCs) has positive relationship with PMA in Indonesia, but their effect were not significant statistically, except Canada. This implies that global finance crisis, especially in USA and european countries would not largely effect on PMA in Indonesia.
