Abstract: This research is aimed to find out what culture and how culture were implemented in English textbooks for third grade students of Junior High School. The data of this research were the English textbooks entittled Bahasa Inggris Think Globally Act Locally revised 2018, English in Focus for grade IX Junior High School and Bright an English Course for Junior High School revised edition. The sample in this research was word, pictures,illustrations, reading passages and other many activities in each textbooks. The data were collected by using a checklist format based on the framework from Cortazzi and Jin (1999). There are two aspects have been analyzed: Big C and little C. The findings of the research revealed that Source Culture was the most appeared in these three English textbooks as categories of culture, and Product was the most frequently appeared in these three English textbooks. As the result of research, it found that the textbook is more likely to promote our local culture ( Source culture) in learning English and make into product of culture rather than any aspect of categories of culture and elements of culture..Keywords: English Textbook, Junior High School, Cognitive, Psychomotor.

Abstract: This research is aims to find out the levels of students’ speaking and the dominant type of anxiety that occured in speaking performance of the Third Semester Students of English Study Program Fkip Universitas Riau. The research design of the research was quantitative descriptive research and the population of the research was third semester students of English study program fkip Universitas Riau. Thus, 30 participants selected from the third semester students of English Study Program Universitas Riau by using a proportional sampling technique. The data were collected through questionnaire. The questionnaire was adapted from FLCAS (Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale) designed by Horwitz et al (1986). The result of the questionnaire shows that the students’ speaking anxiety is overall in the anxious level. There were six students (20%) in the level of very anxious, thirteen students (43.3%) in the level of anxious, nine students (30%) in the mildly level, one student (3%) in the relaxed level, and also one student (3%) in the level very relaxed. The result from grouping based on FLCAS type found that “test anxiety” was the main factor that causes students to feel anxious about 18 (60%) students, followed by the “communication apprehension” factor became the second factor with 16 (53%) students, then the last factor was “fear of negative evaluation” with 16 (53%) students. It concludes that the highest anxiety scale that occurs in “anxious” caused by test anxiety.Key Words: Analysis, Speaking, Anxiety In Speaking Performance.

ABSTRACT: This quasi-experimental research aimed to find out whether there is an effect of heritage narrative on reading comprehension of second year students of SMP Telekomunikasi Pekanbaru. This research was a nonequivalent (pretest and posttest) control-group design. In this design, there two groups as the participant (experimental and control group). Heritage narrative was applied in teaching the experimental group while the control group was taught by using narrative from other culture. The population of this research was all students of second year students in academic year of 2017/2018. The total number of population was 71. The sample is chosen by using cluster random sampling. In analyzing data, the writer used the quantitative approach. The results of the data analysis showed that the mean scores of pre-test were 44.86 (experimental group) and 43.47 (control group). The mean score of students after the treatment was higher than pre-test. Moreover, from the statistical analysis, it was found out the t-test (4.75) was higher than t-table (2.01) at the significance level 5%. It can be concluded that there was effect of heritage narrative on students ’reading comprehension.

The objective of this research is to determine the correlation between self-esteem and writing ability of the first year students of SMAN 1 Pekanbaru. This is a correlational research that hastwo variables. The sample of this research is one class consisted of 36 students. The class was chosen by using Cluster Random Sampling Technique. Self-esteem questionnaire and writing test were used to collect the data. The self-esteem data were collected by using a set of questionnaire FLSES (Foreign Language Self-Esteem Scale) designed by Hassan (2001). The data of writing ability were taken by administaring test of writing. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result shows that there is low correlation between students’ self-esteem and writing ability with the correlation value 0.312, while the coefficient correlation is as big as 9.7 %. The self-esteem of the students is categorized in “average” level and the writing ability is categorized in “good” level. It indicates that the students’ self-esteem influences their writing ability. Based on the finding, probably it would be better for the students to pay attantion on personality aspect, such as self-esteem in learning process of writing.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah metode Group Investigation dapatmeningkatkan kemampuan menulis mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan bahasa Inggris semester IIFakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Riau. Disamping itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuanuntuk menemukan faktor-faktor apa yang menyebabkan peningkatan tersebut.Jenis penelitian yangdigunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (Classroom Action Research). Sebagai sample penelitian iniadalah mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah writingIyang berjumlah 34 orang. Hasil observasipada siklus I berkisar (46.08%) dan skor hasil test siswa berkisar (65.14). Hasil ini belum memenuhikriteria yang ditetapkan untuk ketuntasan siswa yaitu 70. Sehingga diadakan tindakan ke dua (II)dengan melanjutkan pengajaran dengan menerapkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Group Investigation.Setelah diadakan tindakan pada siklus ke II berdasarkan observasi dan tes yang dilakukan ternyatakemampuan siswa meningkat menjadi (86.26%) dan skor hasil test menjadi 77.64.Hasil penelitian inimemperlihatkan bahwa hasil yang telah dicapai siswa melebihi kriteria yang ditentukan. Dengan demikianmetode pembelajaran Group Investigation dapat meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam membuat kalimatyang terdapat pada mata kuliah writing.Kata kunci : Rendahnya kemampuan menulis, Group Investigation, CAR

The objective of this research was to know whether the method of Group Investigation couldimproved the ability of the fourth semester students of English Department, FKIP UR, in identifyingthe elements of plot in short drama (one act drama). This research was also aimed to find what factorscaused the improvement.The research method used was the Classrom Action Research (CAR). Throughthe application of Group Investigation, the research findings showed that the ability of the fourthsemester students of English Department has improved significantly in identifying the theme and theelements of plot in short drama text. Average percentage of students’ activity in meeting I (56.05%)increased to (67.42%) in meeting II in cycle I. This percentage increased to (84.04%) in meeting I incycle II. The improvement of percentage activity became (90.90%) in meeting II cycle II. The averagegrade of students’ ability in pre-test was (54%) after students involvement in teaching and learningprocess by using the type of Group Investigation, the students’ ability became (61.88%) in post-test Iand reached (78.18%) in post-test II.The dominant factors that cause the students’ improvement are 1)alomost all students were active in teaching and learning process 2) the students were struggle hard andresponsible to their own group.

The research was aimed to find out the effect of gallery walk strategy toward reading comprehension of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was quasi-experimental research with an experimental group and control group pre-test and post-test. These two groups were selected to be a sample by using cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that t-test score was 2.351 while the t-table was 2.001. Since t-test score was higher than t-table, it can be concluded that alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that there is a significant effect of gallery walk strategy on reading comprehension of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru.

Tujuan penelitian tindakan kelas ini adalah untuk melihat keefektifandrama dalam meningkatkan kemampuan speaking mahasiswa bahasa Inggris FKIPUNRI. Hasil observasi pada siklus I rata-rata kemampuan speaking mahasiswa(49,40%) dan skor hasil test siswa rata-rata (65,50). Hasil ini belum memenuhikriteria yang ditetapkan untuk ketuntasan siswa yaitu 70. Sehingga diadakan tindakanke dua (II) dengan melanjutkan pengajaran dengan menggunakan teknik bermaindrama. Mahasiswa juga diberi kesempatan latihan untuk adegan drama diluar kelas.Setelah diadalan tindakan pada siklus ke II berdasarkan observasi dan tes yangdilakukan ternyata kemampuan siswa meningkat menjadi (78,32%) dan skor hasilpost test mahasiswa rata-rata menjadi 75,00. Hasil penelitian ini memperlihatkanbahwa hasil yang telah dicapai siswa melebihi kriteria yang ditentukan. Dengandemikian teknik Drama dapat meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam mata kuliahspeaking.

Tujuan penelitian tindakan kelas ini adalah untuk meningkan kemampuan mahasiswa D3STIFAR yayasan Universitas Riau berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris. Sebagai sampel penelitian iniadalah 25 orang mahasiswa D3 STIFAR yang mengambil matakuliah bahasa Inggris. Sebelumpelaksanaan tindakan menggunakan aktifitas drama dalam proses pembelajaran, dilakukan pre-testspeaking terhadap mahasiswa. Hasil dari pre-test memperlihatkan bahwa kompetensi mahasiswaberbicara bahasa Inggris kurang memuaskan skor rata-rata pre-test mahasiswa, 51,47. Setelahdilaksanakan tindakan melalui aktifitas bermain drama dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris,dilaksanakan post-test. Hasil post-test mahasiswa setelah pembelajaran melalui aktifitas Drama terlihatbahwa kompetensi mahasiswa meningkat dengan skor rata-rata, 67,75. Dari hasil post-test tersebutmenandakan bahwa aktifitas permainan Drama dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sangatbermanfaat bagi mahasiswa. Aktifitas Drama dapat meningkatkan motivasi, percaya diri, keberanian,dan kesenangan mahasiswa berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa inggris.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sikap bahasa dan motivasi siswa SMA 1Bantan Bengkalis terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Populasi penelitian ini berjumlah 53 siswaSMA 1 Bantan Bengkalis.Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode deskriptif dengan pendekatankualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa sikap bahasa siswa pada komponenkognitif berada pada kategoritinggi (88,7%), affektif berada pada kategori tinggi (77,4%), dan konatifberada pada kategori rendah (96,2%). Pada aspek motivasi komponen ekstrinsik (64,2%), dan Intrinsik(64,2%), terlihat siswa mempunyai motivasi yang tinggi dalam belajar bahasa Inggris.
