Abstract

Adaptation is an effort to adapt to the environment. Adaptation cannot occur quickly, because students' adjustment to a new environment requires time and process. The purpose of the adaptation is as an effort for students to be able to interact with each other so that a good relationship is built between students and so that students are able to adapt to culture and language and can also communicate well with other students and can also adapt to existing regulations. at the Islamic boarding school. This research aims to examine the various efforts of guidance and counseling teachers to help new students adapt to language differences in Islamic boarding schools, what efforts guidance and counseling teachers can make to help students adapt to these language differences. This research method was carried out by literature study. Various techniques and methods that guidance and counseling teachers can use to help students overcome their problems have been described in this research. It is hoped that the description presented in this research will be useful and can help guidance and counseling teachers solve problems experienced by students who have problems adapting due to language differences.

Abstract

The implementation of educational activities involved a learning process including knowledge and skills with developing student character. However, in the learning process, there are some problems occur. The problems were usually related to the negative attitudes and traits shown by students. The negative attitudes and traits shown by students are caused by low self-esteem. The purpose of this study was to describe the alternative counselling interventions through Guidance and Counseling, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) to increase students' self-esteem and to show the effect of self-esteem on students' subjective well-being. This research used a qualitative approach. The data analysis technique used is qualitative data analysis, where the data comes from the study of literature assertive training, cognitive, behavioural, and modelling. The result of this study is self-esteem and subjective well-being can improve by Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy or REBT.

Abstract

Academic procrastination is a prevalent issue among international students, influenced by multiple psychological and social factors. This study investigates the relationships between academic self-efficacy, social support, emotion dysregulation, and academic procrastination, with academic self-efficacy also examined as a mediating and moderating variable. Data were collected from international students enrolled in universities. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was employed to analyze the interrelationships among the variables, focusing on both direct and indirect effects. Findings revealed that social support significantly and positively predicted academic self-efficacy, which in turn negatively influenced academic procrastination. Moreover, social support also directly reduced procrastination levels. External locus of control indirectly increased academic procrastination through lowered academic self-efficacy. However, emotion dysregulation showed no significant direct or indirect effect on academic procrastination. Academic self-efficacy served as a significant mediator between both social support and external locus of control in relation to procrastination. The results underscore the importance of perceived social support and academic self-efficacy in mitigating academic procrastination among international students. While emotional dysregulation was hypothesized to influence procrastination, its non-significant effect suggests that other factors may moderate this relationship in international student populations. These findings highlight the potential effectiveness of interventions aimed at strengthening academic self-efficacy and social support systems to reduce procrastination behaviors in this group.

Abstract

Character education plays a critical role in shaping students’ values and behaviors, serving as a preventive measure against social issues such as promiscuity. In Merauke, a region with distinct cultural and social dynamics, addressing adolescent behavior through character development is essential. This qualitative study employed a case study design to explore the impact of character education on preventing promiscuity among high school students in Merauke. Conducted in 2023, the research involved students, parents, and teachers at a local high school. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and direct observations, then analyzed thematically to examine the roles of educators and families in guiding students’ moral development. Findings indicate that effective character education—integrating moral values, ethics, and social responsibility—significantly contributes to reducing risky behaviors among students. Collaboration between schools, parents, and communities enhances the effectiveness of these programs. Participants reported noticeable improvements in students’ sense of responsibility and decision-making. However, challenges such as limited parental awareness and the pervasive influence of technology hinder optimal outcomes. The study highlights the importance of tailoring character education to the unique cultural context of Merauke. To address ongoing challenges, greater efforts are needed to involve families and integrate local values into the curriculum. Strengthening character education holistically may offer a sustainable strategy for mitigating adolescent promiscuity in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the content validity of an academic resilience instrument for junior high school students (SMP) that includes three main dimensions: perseverance, self-reflection and adaptive assistance, and negative affect and emotional responses. Through an assessment process by three experts using the Aiken's V technique, 45 out of 54 items (83.3%) were declared to have high content validity (Aiken's V ≥ 0.80), while the other nine items showed low validity (Aiken's V = 0.333) and were recommended for revision. These findings indicate that in general the instrument has met the criteria for adequate content validity and is suitable for use to measure the academic resilience of junior high school students. The main recommendation of this study is to maintain items that have been proven valid, and to conduct further revisions and empirical testing using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) or confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) methods to ensure the structure and internal consistency of the instrument statistically.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pendekatan deep learning menekankan keterlibatan aktif individu dalam proses belajar, penguasaan pengetahuan yang memadai, serta keingintahuan tinggi terhadap materi pembelajaran. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru Bimbingan dan Konseling (BK) dalam memahami dan menerapkan konsep deep learning dalam pembelajaran. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui metode pelatihan dan pendampingan yang dirancang untuk membantu guru BK mengembangkan strategi pembelajaran berbasis deep learning guna meningkatkan pemahaman dan kreativitas siswa. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah guru BK jenjang SMP yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Bimbingan dan Konseling (MGBK) Kota Yogyakarta, dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 50 orang. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan melalui pemberian pretest dan posttest untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman peserta terhadap konsep deep learning. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan skor rata-rata pemahaman guru BK dari 81,36 sebelum pelatihan menjadi 90,70 setelah pelatihan, atau meningkat sebesar 11,48%. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan efektif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi guru BK serta mendukung terciptanya ekosistem sekolah yang kondusif bagi penerapan deep learning, khususnya dalam layanan BK.Abstract: The deep learning approach emphasizes active individual engagement in the learning process, adequate mastery of knowledge, and a high level of curiosity toward learning materials. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to enhance the competence of guidance and counseling teachers in understanding and applying the concept of deep learning in educational practice. The program was implemented through training and mentoring methods designed to assist guidance and counseling teachers in developing deep learning-based instructional strategies to improve students’ understanding and creativity. The target participants were junior high school guidance and counseling teachers who are members of the Guidance and Counseling Teachers Association (MGBK) of Yogyakarta City, with a total of 50 participants. Program evaluation was conducted using pretests and posttests to measure participants’ understanding of the deep learning concept. The analysis results indicate an increase in the average comprehension score of guidance and counseling teachers from 81.36 before the training to 90.70 after the training, representing an improvement of 11.48%. These findings demonstrate that the training was effective in enhancing the competence of guidance and counseling teachers and in supporting the creation of a conducive school ecosystem for the implementation of deep learning, particularly within guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan ini yaitu “Pendampingan Talent Scouting Bagi Guru BK SMA/MA Sleman” bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru BK SMA/MA Kabupaten Sleman dalam mengidentifikasi dan mengembangkan minat, dan bakat, serta potensi yang dimiliki oleh siswa sehingga siswa mendapat informasi terkait dengan kesiapan siswa untuk masuk perguruan tinggi dan dapat menentukan karirnya dimasa depan. Sasaran kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah guru BK yang tergabung dalam MGBK SMA/MA Kabupaten Sleman, berjumlah 32 peserta. Metode pelatihan yang digunakan adalah dengan teknik pelatihan dan pendampingan. Selama pelaksanaan kegiatan, para peserta dikenalkan, dilatih, dan didampingi secara berkelanjutan. Berdasarkan nilai rata-rata kelompok posttest lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata kelompok pretest yang ditunjukkan dari mean rank pada positive rank sebesar 16.50 lebih besar dari pada skor negative rank. Dengan demikian, melalui kegiatan pelatihan ini menunjukkan efektif bagi guru BK SMA/MA Kabupaten Sleman untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilannya guru BK dalam mengidentifikasi dan mengembangkan potensi, minat dan bakat yang dimiliki siswa secara optimal.Abstract: This activity, namely “Talent Scouting Assistance for Counseling Teachers of SMA/MA Sleman” aims to increase the understanding and skills of counseling teachers of SMA/MA Sleman Regency in identifying and developing the interests and talents, as well as the potential possessed by students so that students get information related to student readiness to enter college and can determine their future careers. The target of this training activity was counseling teachers who are members of MGBK SMA/MA Sleman Regency, totaling 32 participants. The training method used was training and mentoring techniques. During the implementation of the activity, the participants were introduced, trained, and assisted on an ongoing basis. Based on the average score of the posttest group, it is higher than the average score of the pretest group, which is shown from the mean rank on the positive rank of 16.50 greater than the negative rank score. Thus, through this training activity, it is effective for counseling teachers of SMA/MA Sleman Regency to increase their understanding and skills in identifying and developing the potential, interests and talents of students optimally.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of differentiated learning on the critical thinking skills of PGSD students in the basic IPA concepts course. The approach used in this research is quantitative, with a quasi-experimental design. The research was conducted on first-semester students at Yogyakarta State University, specifically in class A as the experimental class with 26 people and class B as the control class with 30 people.  The results of the paired sample t-test for critical thinking skills between the pretest and post-test in the control class are 8.744 > 1.697 (t-table N=30) and in the experimental class are 33.303 > 1.706 (t-table N=26). In each class, the significance value is 0.001. If compared to the required value for a significance level of 0.05, the calculated significance is less than 0.05, it is stated that there is a positive influence. The findings indicate a positive and significant impact of differentiated learning on enhancing students' critical thinking skills in the basic IPA concepts course. These results indicate that educators need to consider integrating differentiated learning into their teaching strategies to improve the quality of education.

Abstract

Background. Social anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems experienced by adolescents and has the potential to hinder social functioning, academic performance, and overall mental well-being. Although conventional counseling has been proven effective in treating social anxiety, this approach generally does not integrate physical activity as part of the therapeutic process. Objectives. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of sports-based counseling in improving the mental well-being of adolescents with social anxiety. Methods. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group model. Participants were adolescents aged 13–18 years with moderate to high levels of social anxiety, who were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group participated in a sports-based counseling program for 6–8 weeks, while the control group did not receive any structured sports intervention. Mental well-being and social anxiety were measured using validated psychometric instruments. Results. The results of the analysis showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in mental well-being compared to the control group, as well as a significant decrease in social anxiety levels after the intervention. These findings indicate that sports-based counseling is effective as an integrated psychosocial intervention in improving the mental well-being of adolescents with social anxiety. Conclusion. This study contributes theoretically to the development of the integration of sports psychology and developmental counseling, as well as practically to the development of applicable and contextual adolescent mental health intervention programs.
