Abstract

This study investigates the impact of poverty and the Gender Inequality Index (GII) on Indonesia’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita across 34 provinces using secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for the years 2021–2023. Employing path analysis, the study examines both the direct and indirect effects of poverty and gender inequality on regional economic performance. The findings reveal that the poverty rate significantly negatively affects GRDP per capita, with a path coefficient of -0.305, indicating that higher poverty levels are associated with lower economic output per person. Furthermore, the GII significantly affects poverty (coefficient = 0.244), suggesting that increased gender inequality contributes to worsening poverty. Additionally, GII directly negatively affects GRDP per capita (coefficient = -0.269), implying that regions with greater gender disparities tend to have lower economic performance. The study also confirms an indirect effect, where gender inequality exacerbates poverty, depressing economic productivity and growth. These findings underscore the importance of integrating gender equality into economic development strategies. To achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth, policies must reduce gender-based barriers in education, employment, and healthcare, empowering women to contribute fully to economic development and poverty reduction.

Abstract

This study analysed the issue of the quality of regional spending, by analyzing the influence of Connectivity Spending, Capital Expenditure and Fiscal Independence on the GDP growth rate in Regencies/Cities throughout Lampung Province in the period 2018 to 2022. The results of the analysis indicated that the Connectivity Expenditure variable had a positive and significant influence on the GDP rate, meaning that every 1% increase in connectivity spending could increase the GDP growth rate by 0.26%. Meanwhile, Capital Expenditure had a negative impact or suppresses the GDP rate. It marked the allocation of the capital expenditure budget for asset acquisition was less effective in supporting economic growth and development between regions. Likewise, Fiscal Independence had no significant effect on the pace of GDP. This condition reflected the region's large dependence on central transfers. Using the Vector Autoregression (VAR) found that all variables affect GDP with a lag of 1 year after meaning that three variables could affect the rate of GDP after 1 year of implementation. The results of this study overviewed the importance of selecting efficient types of Capital Expenditure and Connectivity Expenditure which had an impact on economic growth (spending better), as well as the importance of increasing regional fiscal capacity through PAD optimization to support regional financing and sustainable regional economic growth.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the determinants of renewable energy consumption in Indonesia, focusing on Gross Domestic Product (GDP), energy subsidies (SUB), urban population (POPs), and carbon dioxide (CO?) emissions over the period 1990–2023. Research methodology: A quantitative descriptive approach is applied using time series data from 1990 to 2023. The analysis combines the Error Correction Model (ECM) to capture short-term dynamics and long-term equilibrium, and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression for estimating the relationships between variables. Results: In the short term, GDP and urban population exhibit a positive but insignificant effect on renewable energy consumption, while energy subsidies have a negative and significant effect. CO? emissions show a positive and significant effect. In the long term, GDP and CO? emissions maintain a positive and significant impact, energy subsidies remain negative and significant, and urban population continues to have a positive but insignificant influence. Simultaneous testing confirms that GDP, energy subsidies, urban population, and CO? emissions collectively influence renewable energy consumption in Indonesia. Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of economic growth and environmental pressures in driving renewable energy use, while energy subsidies negatively impact its adoption. Limitations: The study is limited to four independent variables and does not account for technological innovation or policy changes beyond energy subsidies. Contribution: This research provides empirical evidence for policymakers to design strategies promoting renewable energy consumption, emphasizing economic growth, emission control, and subsidy reform.

Abstract

Lampung Province faces significant challenges in improving economic efficiency amid ongoing regional development dynamics. Despite various infrastructure development programs and economic capacity enhancement efforts implemented up to 2024, the efficient use of resources remains uneven across districts. This study aims to analyze the influence of road infrastructure, labor force, Regional Original Revenue (PAD), and General Allocation Fund (DAU) on economic efficiency in Lampung Province, while also providing a contextual comparison with other regions such as DKI Jakarta, Bali, and Kalimantan. The analysis employs a panel data multiple regression method using a sample of 15 regencies/cities in Lampung over the period 2019–2023, resulting in a total of 75 observations. The results indicate that all four independent variables have a positive and significant impact on economic efficiency. Compared to other regions, Lampung needs to strengthen infrastructure connectivity and local fiscal management to foster more equitable and sustainable efficiency gains.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the effects of economic freedom, economic complexity, and population growth on per capita income across different groups of countries classified by income level, namely, high-, upper-middle-, lower-middle-, and low-income countries. Methodology: This study applies panel data regression using a cross-sectional dataset covering 102 countries. Per capita income is employed as the dependent variable, while the independent variables consist of indicators of economic freedom, complexity, and population growth. Separate analyses were conducted for each income group to identify heterogeneous impacts. Results: The findings revealed diverse effects across income levels. In high-income countries, only trade freedom significantly and positively influences the per-capita income. For upper-middle-income countries, none of the variables demonstrated significant effects. In lower-middle-income countries, monetary freedom is positively related to per capita income, whereas economic complexity is negatively related. In low-income countries, business freedom is the only factor that significantly enhances per capita income. Collectively, all independent variables significantly influenced per capita income across all income groups, with adjusted R² values ranging from 28.2% to 59.6%. Conclusions: The study concludes that the drivers of per-capita income vary across income classifications. The structural differences among country groups necessitate context-specific policy approaches rather than one-size-fits-all strategies. Limitations: The use of secondary cross-sectional data and a limited set of explanatory variables may not capture the full dynamics influencing income levels. Contribution: This research enriches the discourse on economic development by offering empirical evidence of differentiated impacts across income groups, providing valuable insights for policymakers in designing tailored economic strategies.
