Abstract

Land cover change in tourist areas is often an important issue related to the impact of human activities on the environment. This study aims to analyze land cover changes in the Aik Berik Village area, Central Lombok Regency, by utilizing remote sensing technology and Geographic Information System (GIS). Multitemporal satellite image data is used to identify types of land cover, such as forests, agricultural land, built land, and open land, over a period of time. Spatial analysis is carried out to determine the pattern of change and the factors that affect it. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant change in land conversion, with the conversion of forest areas into plantations, rice fields, and built-up land. Despite this, most of the forest area has been preserved thanks to natural regeneration factors and community-based management. In addition, some plantation areas have changed their function to rice fields and built land, while savanna areas are relatively stable. These changes have the potential to affect the quality of ecosystems and the hydrological cycle of the region. The success of Aik Berik Village in maintaining forests and springs that are vital to the community shows the importance of sustainable and community-based land management.

Abstract

Dysoxylum parasiticum is a flowering plant from the Meliaceae family. This plant has a number of secondary metabolite compounds that have not been specifically identified at the anatomical and tissue level. The presence of secondary metabolite compounds can be identified through the presence of secretory tissue in plants. The aim of this research is to determine the structure, type and location of the secretory tissue in the stem and leaf organs. Preparations were made using the fresh preparation method, and slicing using the free-hand section method, with Tuloidine blue O 0.025% staining. The results show that the secretory tissue has an elongated channel structure like a lumen surrounded by epithelial cells. The location of the secretory tissue in the stem is evenly distributed in the cortex and pith, in the petiole of the leaf it is only found in the cotex, and in the leaf blade, the secretion ducts are found in the cortex of the midrib and the mesophyll of the leaf blade.

Abstract

Sragen Regency is one of the areas in Indonesia focusing on stunting alleviation. In 2018, the average prevalence of stunting children in Sragen Regency was 24.3% where this figure was higher than the average prevalence of stunting children in Central Java (20.8%) and also the national average (21.6%) (SSGI Kemenkes RI, 2022). The government has made various efforts to prevent stunting children. However, the prevalence of stunting children in Sragen Regency is still high, so policy innovations are needed to accelerate the reduction of stunting rates. This study uses primary data with data collection methods through surveys and interviews. The sampling technique used systematic random sampling; the data was then analyzed using a quantitative descriptive method and logistic regression. The study's results obtained 73 samples, of which 21 households (28.76%) had children with stunting nutritional status. The prevalence of stunting in children is higher in children whose mothers have education below junior high school, mothers who don't work, have low capita income and are children of male sex. Based on these findings, appropriate and effective interventions are needed according to the determinants of child stunting.

Abstract

This study investigates the technique of in medias res used by the sixth-semester students of English Education Study Program at the Teacher Training and Education Fakulty and the challenges they face in implementing it. In medias res is one of the narrative techniques that begin in the midst of the action. In medias res is often used to create a dynamic opening and engage the readers promptly. Despite the fact that it is common to find in medias res in narrative fiction, its application in the classroom is still unexplored. This study employed a mixed-method approach. A set of students-written short stories was analysed using the rubric to evaluate the effectiveness of in medias res implementation, coherence, creativity, and overall narrative structure. In addition, surveys and interview were conducted to gather data about their perception and experience. The finding reveals that while many students were able to apply the in medias res technique, they still encountered challenges in choosing the right moment in the storyline to begin, revealing backstory naturally, and maintaining reader engagement while ensuring clarity.

Abstract

Indonesia has an abundant labor supply, so examining the determinants of earnings that reflect labor productivity is essential. This study is keen to estimate the effect of human capital, demographic factors, and regional (Regency/City) effects on workers' earnings in the Province of Central Java in 2022. The data is collected from the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas). The multilevel mixed-effect regression is employed to assess the effect of individual characteristics and district-level variation on earnings. The study found that human capital, demographic factors, and regional (Regency/City) effects significantly affect earnings. Education and training are essential to improve workers’ skills, leading to higher performance. Further, regional characteristics have contributed to explaining earnings variation across workers in Central Java.

Abstract

Firms with high leverage are more vulnerable, particularly during uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to examine the impact of leverage on firms’ financial distress by capturing two countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, which have different levels of leverage and financial development that affect access to external funding. The Altman Z-score—for a rich dataset comprising quarterly data of publicly traded companies between 2015 and 2020—is calculated to measure firms’ financial distress. Furthermore, the Difference-in-Differences (DiD) technique is employed to test the hypothesis that highly leveraged firms have a higher bankruptcy risk that leads to financial distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study finds that firms’ financial distress during the pandemic is higher than prior the pandemic. Indonesian firms’ financial distress was higher than Malaysian firms. Finally, highly leveraged firms are exposed to higher bankruptcy risk than firms with lower debt.
