Abstract

Land cover change in tourist areas is often an important issue related to the impact of human activities on the environment. This study aims to analyze land cover changes in the Aik Berik Village area, Central Lombok Regency, by utilizing remote sensing technology and Geographic Information System (GIS). Multitemporal satellite image data is used to identify types of land cover, such as forests, agricultural land, built land, and open land, over a period of time. Spatial analysis is carried out to determine the pattern of change and the factors that affect it. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant change in land conversion, with the conversion of forest areas into plantations, rice fields, and built-up land. Despite this, most of the forest area has been preserved thanks to natural regeneration factors and community-based management. In addition, some plantation areas have changed their function to rice fields and built land, while savanna areas are relatively stable. These changes have the potential to affect the quality of ecosystems and the hydrological cycle of the region. The success of Aik Berik Village in maintaining forests and springs that are vital to the community shows the importance of sustainable and community-based land management.

Abstract

Agricultural commodities remain the primary source of exports for both developing and developed countries. However, inequity in competitiveness has emerged as a key concern as a result of discrepancies in economies of scale, efficiency, and government protection. The purpose of this study is to assess the competitiveness of main agricultural commodities in a number of developing countries. A semi-systematic review of the literature was employed as an analytical technique. The study's data was gathered from earlier research. The findings suggest that food crop commodities in poor nations have a low level of competitiveness. This is owing to the fact that the agricultural labor force in developing countries is largely comprised of unskilled employees, particularly women who are underpaid. In developing countries, four factors may have an impact on the competitiveness of food crop agricultural commodities. Availability of particular plant resources, technology, external and domestic demand, and domestic commodity and export pricing are just a few of them.

Abstract

Aik Bukak Village, North Batukliang District, Central Lombok is an agricultural area with the majority of its people making a living as farmers, apart from managing their yards by growing vegetables and fruit. Several types of fruit are found in quite large quantities and are available almost all year round, whether they come from the garden or not, for example bananas, watermelon and durian. At certain times fruit is available in large quantities, and accompanied by large amounts of waste which is often not utilized, other than as raw material for making organic fertilizer. Basically, this type of waste can be processed into food or snacks, which apart from being useful as an alternative food ingredient, as an effort to diversify food, is also an alternative to increase household income. The aim of this activity is to provide outreach and training in making food products based on local fruit waste in the Aik Bukak Village community. The method used is to conduct lectures, discussions and demonstrations of fruit waste processing by involving the community. From the results of the activity, it can be concluded that the community has additional knowledge regarding the use of fruit waste as food, in the form of banana peel chips, candied watermelon peels, and jackfruit seed cakes. Apart from reducing the potential for environmental pollution, people also have alternative businesses to increase household income.

Abstract

Water is a fundamental necessity for human life and is required to comply with both quality and quantity standards. Excessive iron (Fe) content and turbidity can negatively impact life. An alternative effort to reduce Fe and turbidity levels exceeding quality standards is filtration using palm shell activated carbon. This study aims to investigate the effect of varying particle sizes of activated carbon made from oil palm shell on the reduction of iron (Fe) content and turbidity in well water. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a Pre-Test – Post-Test Without Control Group. The research object was well, located in Ngumbul, Tamanan, Bantul. Three variations of palm shell activated carbon media were used: Filter A: 1 cm, Filter B: 0.5 cm, Filter C: 0.2 cm, each with three repetitions per variation, which was then followed by inferential analysis. Descriptive analysis showed reductions in Fe and turbidity as follows: Filter A – Fe 1.22 mg/L and turbidity 43.97 NTU, Filter B – Fe 1.15 mg/L and turbidity 38.22 NTU, Filter C – Fe 1.27 mg/L and turbidity 43.97 NTU. The result of the One-Way ANOVA test showed that there was no significant effect of the variation in the particle size of activated carbon made from oil palm shell on the reduction of iron content and turbidity. Palm shell activated carbon is effective in reducing iron (Fe) content and turbidity in well water.

Abstract

Background: Agarwood, valued for its aromatic fragrance, thrives in West Nusa Tenggara, where demand is very high. However, natural forest sources are scarce, driving up market prices and limiting supply. To address this, farmers have begun cultivating agarwood trees. Community service initiatives are urgent, as they offer economic, environmental, and social benefits. Contribution: This study introduces a community-based revitalization program for agarwood cultivation in the KHDTK (Forest Area with Specific Purpose) of Senaru. By integrating applied biotechnology with participatory forest management, the program provides empirical evidence of how agarwood planting can simultaneously improve rural livelihoods, support environmental rehabilitation, and contribute to broader debates in sustainable forestry and applied technology. Method: The methods include site assessment and sustainable land preparation, and staggered planting. A total of 2070 high-quality agarwood seedlings are distributed to local farmers, who received training in cultivation, maintenance, and resin production techniques. Monitoring was conducted over 6 months to evaluate survival, growth, and socio-economic outcomes. Results: After 6 months, 90% of seedlings survived, and carbon sequestration potential was estimated at 3.31 tons CO₂ per year. These findings indicate that agarwood revitalization can deliver measurable ecological and economic benefits. Conclusion: With proper implementation and support, this project can serve as a model for other regions seeking to balance ecological preservation with socio-economic growth.
