Abstract

Selama stadia larva sampai mencapai umur 10 hari pemeliharaan, diberikan pakan jenis Rotifera sp., selanjutnya diberikan pakan komersil.

Abstract

Transportation is a follow-up activity in cultivation that is useful for moving fish to new habitats. The transportation system used is a closed system that relies on oxygen in it. This system has disadvantages, such as fish being easily exposed to stress due to decreased water quality in the media and disruption of fish metabolism. Therefore, an alternative strategy is needed by anesthetizing the fish to reduce movement and metabolism during transportation. The anesthetic used is sweet potato leaves which contain saponins (21,50%), flavonoids (1,30%), and polyphenols (4,0947 mg/g). This research aims to apply the use of Ipomoea batatas sweet potato leaf extract mixed into water media in the transportation process of prospective black tilapia broodstock Oreochromis niloticus. The research used a completely randomized design (CRD) method consisting of three replications and four treatments, namely treatment K (control), P2 (2 mg/L), P4 (4 mg/L), and P6 (6 mg/L). The results of the research can be concluded that the best treatment in this study was P6 which showed higher survival rates and lower blood glucose levels compared to other treatments (P<0.05), while the water quality parameters between treatments did not significant different.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of alternative feed sources, namely mung bean sprouts (KC) and sente plants (TS), combined with pellets, on the reproductive performance of gourami (Osphronemus gouramy) broodstock. Observed parameters included the number of spawning broodstock, fecundity, fertilization rate (FR), hatching rate (HR), and larval survival rate (SR). The spawning was conducted using a natural method with a male-to-female ratio of 1:3. Results showed that the KC treatment yielded superior outcomes compared to TS and control treatments. The highest average FR was observed in the TS treatment (87.35%), followed by KC (86.36%) and the control (75.04%). The highest HR was recorded in the KC treatment at 90%, producing 3,996 larvae per broodstock, while TS resulted in 87.67% (3,364 larvae per broodstock) and the control 80% (1,862 larvae per broodstock). The highest SR was also obtained in the KC treatment at 96.37% (3,849 larvae per broodstock), followed by TS at 95.04% (3,187 larvae per broodstock) and the control at 91.34% (1,538 larvae per broodstock). The KC feed increased broodstock fecundity up to 5,127 eggs per broodstock (1,602 eggs per kg), while the TS feed resulted in 4,355 eggs per broodstock (1,361 eggs per kg). The vitamin E content in mung bean sprouts and the vitamin C and flavonoid contents in sente plants played vital roles in supporting gonad maturation, egg quality, and larval survival. Overall, the combination of KC and pellets is recommended as a functional alternative feed to sustainably enhance the reproductive success of gourami broodstock.

Abstract

Nilem fish Osteochilus vittatus is an economically valuable freshwater species that also supports ecological sustainability. However, its aquaculture is hindered by slow larval growth and high mortality rates. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of vitamin C-enriched daphnia as a dietary supplement to enhance the growth performance and survival of nilem fish larvae. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was implemented, consisting of 4 treatments with 3 replicates each: VC0 (0 mg L-¹), VC200 (200 mg L-¹), VC250 (250 mg L-¹), and VC300 (300 mg L-¹) of vitamin C enrichment. Larvae aged 15 days were stocked at a density of 5 individuals L-1 in aquarium containing 7 L of water. Enrichment was conducted by immersing daphnia in vitamin C solutions for 3 hours prior to feeding. The results indicated that vitamin C supplementation significantly improved larval growth (p<0.05), with the highest length and weight gains observed in treatments VC300. However, survival rates peaked at 100% in VC200 and VC250 treatments. The study concludes that vitamin C-enriched daphnia, particularly at 200–250 mg L-¹, effectively enhances both growth and survival in nilem fish larvae

Abstract

The nilem (Osteochilus vittatus) is an endemic freshwater species native to Indonesia and is valued both for its therapeutic properties and its potential for processing into value-added products such as baby fish chips. However, its relatively low growth rate remains a major constraint in aquaculture development. The effect of overlapping feeding on the growth performance and survival of nilem larvae was evaluated. Spawning was conducted over three periods using hormone-induced broodstock prior to larval rearing, and fertilized eggs were incubated under controlled conditions. Larval rearing was carried out at the Freshwater Fish Germplasm Research Installation using two feeding treatments with two replicates: a non-overlapping feeding regime, in which Infusoria was administered from day 4 to 7 followed by artificial feed, and an overlapping regime, in which Infusoria was provided from day 3 to 10 alongside artificial feed from day 8 to 10 before transfer to outdoor concrete tanks. Higher absolute weight gain (0.022 ± 0.001 g), absolute length gain (0.78 ± 0.03 cm), specific growth rate (3.30 ± 0.135%), and survival rate (90.0 ± 0.89%) were recorded under overlapping feeding compared to the non-overlapping treatment (0.018 ± 0.001 g; 0.67 ± 0.01 cm; 2.76 ± 0.111%; and 86.1 ± 0.62%, respectively). Significant differences (p<0.05) were observed in absolute length gain and survival, while absolute weight gain and specific growth rate were not significantly affected. Overlapping feeding was demonstrated to improve larval performance and can be recommended as a feeding strategy to enhance hatchery productivity in nilem aquaculture.

Abstract

Corydoras julii is a freshwater ornamental fish species highly favored by both local and international markets. However, breeders often face challenges in achieving optimal egg production, which is suspected to be influenced by the type of spawning substrate used. This study aimed to determine the most effective substrate for improving the spawning performance of C. julii. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications, consisting of no substrate (control, K), raffia string (T), PVC pipe (P), and Hydrilla verticillata (H). Parameters observed included egg productivity, fertilization rate, hatching rate, and larval survival rate. The results showed that the highest egg productivity was obtained in the PVC pipe treatment, with an average of 2081 ± 125.83 eggs. However, differences in substrate type did not significantly affect the fertilization rate, hatching rate, or survival rate. Water quality parameters, including temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen, remained within the optimal range for spawning throughout the study. In conclusion, the PVC pipe was identified as the most effective substrate for enhancing egg productivity in Corydoras julii breeding without negatively affecting other reproductive parameters.

Abstract

Graphical Abstract  Highlight Research Paraprobiotic for intestinal health of shrimp. Growth performance and immune system increase during administration of paraprobiotics. Microencapsulation for making paraprobiotics. Pathogen inhibition by paraprobiotics.   Abstract Vibriosis, caused by Vibrio spp., is a major threat in shrimp aquaculture, leading to high mortality and economic losses. Probiotics and prebiotics are promising preventive strategies to enhance host immunity and feed efficiency. This study aimed to determine the optimal dose of para-probiotic Pseudoalteromonas piscicida (1Ub) microcapsules and their combination with the prebiotic mannan-oligosaccharide (MOS) to improve growth performance and immune responses of Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). The experiment was conducted at the College of Vocational Studies, IPB University, using mysis 2 (M2) larvae reared in 60 × 30 × 35 cm³ aquarium for two weeks until post-larvae stage 10 (PL10). Shrimp were fed synbiotic microcapsules (1% para-probiotic and 12 mg/L MOS) via bioencapsulated Artemia sp. Five groups were tested: K− (control, PBS immersion), K+ (challenged with Vibrio harveyi), A (0.5% synbiotic), B (1.0%), and C (2.0%). After 14 days, groups K+, A, B, and C were challenged with 10⁶ CFU/mL V. harveyi for seven days. Although differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05), group A consistently showed better outcomes, including higher survival rate, final body length, total haemocyte count, respiratory burst, and phenoloxidase activity, along with lower Vibrio counts compared to K+. These trends indicate that synbiotic application, particularly at 0.5%, can enhance shrimp health and resilience. This study highlights synbiotics as a practical strategy to improve survival, growth, and disease resistance in larviculture.
