Abstract

In the early 20th century, the landscape of Islamic scholarship was marked by intense intellectual debates and the challenge of reconciling classical traditions with modern perspectives. Against this backdrop, this study analyzes Amin al-Khuli's use of rhetoric in the editorial of the Qadla' Syar'i journal to reduce intellectual conflict and promote rational academic dialogue. Amin al-Khuli served as the editor-in-chief of the journal in 1922, during which he published a controversial article regarding the implementation of three talaq with one word, a topic that sparked significant debate and nearly led to the closure of the journal. In response to the controversy, al-Khuli employed a structured rhetorical approach in his editorial to assert the journal’s neutrality, reduce tensions, and foster constructive engagement with the readership. This research employs discourse analysis to examine the relationship between language and context in al-Khuli’s editorial strategies. The findings reveal that his rhetorical approach successfully positioned the journal as an impartial platform for scholarly discussion by emphasizing that published articles served as intellectual exercises rather than endorsements of particular viewpoints. His rhetorical strategies included intensification to reinforce neutrality, attenuation to minimize controversy, credibility-building techniques to establish trust, and emotional engagement to create a sense of inclusivity and participation. These rhetorical elements contributed to strengthening the tradition of open and rational academic discourse while bridging the gap between classical Islamic scholarship and modern intellectual thought. The study highlights the importance of effective rhetorical strategies in managing differences of opinion and sustaining academic integrity. However, it is limited to analyzing a single editorial text and does not fully explore the audience’s reception or its broader impact on Islamic legal thought. Future research is recommended to assess the long-term influence of such discourse on contemporary Islamic scholarship. This study contributes to the understanding of how rhetoric can be strategically employed in academic and public discourse, offering valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and media professionals in fostering inclusive and constructive dialogue.

Abstract

This article examines the role of Prophetic hadith in shaping digital spirituality, with a specific focus on the ethical principles of controlling the gaze and safeguarding the heart in the online environment. The increasing of visual and distraction-driven nature of digital culture has created significant challenges for Muslim spiritual life, including weakened self-regulation, loss of attentiveness, and heightened exposure to morally harmful content. This study aims to explore how selected hadiths concern about lowering the gaze (ghaḍḍ al-baṣar) and the purification of the heart can offer a relevant ethical-spiritual framework for navigating digital spaces. Using a qualitative library research method with a thematic (mauḍū‘ī) and semantic (ma‘ānī al-ḥadīth) approach, this article analyzes foundational texts and their classical commentaries to uncover their contemporary implications. The findings indicate that the Prophetic teachings on visual discipline, inner vigilance, and heart-centered consciousness provide practical guidance for resisting digital overstimulation, maintaining moral clarity, and cultivating spiritual presence. This study concludes that recontextualizing hadith within the dynamics of digital life contributes to the formulation of digital spirituality that is ethically grounded, psychologically stabilizing, and spiritually transformative.

Abstract

Objective: This study analyzes Generation Z’s behavioral response toward Islamic mobile banking adoption by extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with a cybersecurity perspective. The main research question addresses how perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and cybersecurity influence the adoption of Islamic digital financial technologies. This study is empirical and examines the interaction between user behavior and ethical dimensions in sharia-based digital financial services. Design/Methods/Approach: A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing primary data gathered from 100 respondents through an online survey. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) to examine the relationships among perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), cybersecurity, and community response (CR). This method effectively identifies both direct and indirect effects among behavioral and trust-related variables within the TAM framework. Findings: The results show that PEOU and cybersecurity have a positive and significant effect on CR, while PU is insignificant. Both PEOU and PU positively affect cybersecurity, confirming the mediating roles of cybersecurity in shaping user trust and behavioral responses. This finding indicates that for Generation Z, usability and digital trust are more decisive than functional benefits alone. Originality/Value: This study contributes to digital finance literature by integrating cybersecurity into the TAM framework as a behavioral trust construct in Islamic financial systems. It provides new empirical evidence regarding young consumers’ responses to ethical and technological dimensions of Islamic digital banking. Practical/Policy implication: The findings emphasize the need for Islamic financial institutions to design mobile banking systems that are both user-friendly and secure. Enhancing transparency, interface simplicity, and cybersecurity literacy will strengthen user trust. Policymakers should develop cybersecurity standards aligned with Sharia principles to ensure ethical and inclusive digital transformation.

Abstract

21st-century education demands the development of critical thinking skills, yet classroom practices are still dominated by less effective conventional methods. This quasi-experimental study aimed to analyze the difference in effectiveness between Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) models in enhancing the critical thinking skills of high school students. The data sources were 90 students of class XI Social Studies at a public high school in  Bojonegoro Regency, divided into three groups: PjBL, PBL, and control. Data were collected using a validated structured essay test and analyzed using ANCOVA. The results showed that: (1) There was a significant difference in critical thinking skills between the experimental groups (PjBL and PBL) and the control group; (2) Comparatively, the PjBL model proved significantly more effective than the PBL model in improving students' critical thinking skills. These findings indicate that while both constructivist models are effective, the product-oriented nature of PjBL has a more powerful impact on training synthesis and evaluation, the highest levels of critical thought. This study recommends that educators consider PjBL as a primary strategy to optimize the development of 21st-century competencies.
