Abstract

TikTok is increasingly being used by teenagers as a platform for information search and consumption reference, including in selecting beauty products. This study aims to describe the patterns of TikTok usage by female students at SMA Negeri 1 Tebing Tinggi in selecting beauty products and identify factors that influence their decisions. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants were purposively selected from female students in grades X–XII who actively use TikTok and use it as a reference for beauty products. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis through the stages of coding, categorization, and interpretation. The results show that TikTok serves as a primary reference source through product reviews, tutorials, and creator/influencer recommendations that shape female students' consumption preferences. Product selection decisions are influenced by creator credibility, viral trends, ease of access to information, and encouragement from the social environment. TikTok also contributes to the formation of female students' perceptions of beauty standards and self-identity in the digital space. Although it expands self-care knowledge and awareness, TikTok use has the potential to trigger impulsive consumption and pressure to adhere to ideal beauty standards. Therefore, strengthening media literacy is necessary so that adolescents can critically interpret content and make wiser consumption decisions.

Abstract

An ergonomic work environment requires furniture to be compatible with the dimensions of the user's body in order to avoid musculoskeletal complaints and decreased productivity. A data-driven anthropometric design approach combined with structural simulation is a strategy to ensure both comfort and strength of the product. This study applies the Finite Element Method (FEM) to analyze the strength of a work table with a hole-and-groove construction before mass production. A combination of mahogany and plywood was chosen for cost efficiency, while the strength of the joints between components was the main focus of the evaluation. The simulation process included 3D modeling, material selection, boundary condition determination, loading in accordance with SNI 8781-2019, meshing, and analysis of results. The desk measured 1200×600×750 mm with four fixed support points on the legs. The results showed good structural performance in all tests. Stability and vertical strength tests showed that the stress and displacement were below the elastic limit of the material. Fatigue tests showed a damage level of only 1 percent, while drop tests resulted in a displacement of 1.55 mm without permanent deformation. Overall, the table design was deemed safe, stable, and suitable for production.

Abstract

This study presents the design and structural validation of an ergonomic student chair using locally sourced Indonesian wood species. The research integrates anthropometric analysis, computer-aided design, and Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations to ensure both comfort and mechanical reliability. Anthropometric data from Indonesian students determined key seating dimensions, while FEM analysis evaluated structural performance under static loading conditions. Four wood species—teak (Tectona grandis), mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla), pine (Pinus merkusii), and sonokeling (Dalbergia latifolia)—were compared based on stress distribution, total deformation, and factor of safety (FoS). All materials satisfied the minimum safety factor of 1.5, confirming adequate strength for classroom use. Sonokeling achieved the highest FoS (2.47), while pine offered the best efficiency index (22.6) when performance was normalized by cost. The results demonstrate that locally available wood can provide safe, ergonomic, and economically feasible alternatives to imported materials. This integrated ergonomic–engineering approach supports sustainable, affordable, and human-centered furniture design for educational environments.
