Abstract

Abstract

One counseling approach that can be applied by counselors to enhance students’ career self-efficacy by utilizing their strengths and personal resources is group counseling using the Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) approach. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling group counseling in improving the career self-efficacy of Grade XII students at SMAN Model Terpadu Bojonegoro. The study employed a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group design. The research participants consisted of 18 students, including 9 students in the experimental group and 9 students in the control group, selected through a non-random purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a career self-efficacy questionnaire. The implementation of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling group counseling was conducted in four sessions, which include rapport building, problem identification, counseling goal setting, intervention implementation, termination, evaluation, and follow-up. The results of data analysis showed that the experimental group achieved a posttest mean score of 88.67, while the control group obtained a posttest mean score of 81.67. These findings indicate a significant difference between the two groups, with a higher increase in career self-efficacy observed in the experimental group compared to the control group. Furthermore, the independent samples t-test revealed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.005, which is lower than the significance level of 0.05. This result indicates that Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) group counseling is effective in improving the career self-efficacy of Grade XII students at SMAN Model Terpadu Bojonegoro.

Abstract

TikTok is one of the social media platforms that is currently widespread among adolescents globally, and this phenomenon is also evident among students (santri) at Pondok Pesantren Al-Chusnaini. This phenomenon may develop into addictive behavior if not addressed promptly. Boarding school administrators play an important role in preventing TikTok social media addiction among santri, as they act as parental figures within the pesantren environment. However, the results of interviews and observations revealed limited understanding among administrators and suboptimal supervision of santri’s TikTok usage patterns, which may potentially lead to addictive behavior. This study aims to ensure that the administrators of Pondok Pesantren Al-Chusnaini possess adequate understanding regarding the impacts and indicators of TikTok social media addiction among santri and are able to implement appropriate and persuasive preventive efforts within the boarding school setting through psychoeducational services. This research employed a quasi-experimental approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The instrument consisted of 23 items and demonstrated good reliability (α = 0.88). The participants were seven administrators of Pondok Pesantren Al-Chusnaini Sukodono. The psychoeducational intervention on preventing TikTok social media addiction was conducted in six sessions. The effectiveness of the intervention showed changes in scores following the psychoeducation program. The results of the paired-sample t-test indicated a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = -5.332; p = 0.002).

Abstract

Self-regulation is an individual’s ability to manage their thoughts, emotions, and behavior in a purposeful manner to achieve positive goals. This ability is crucial for adolescents in coping with social pressures and avoiding risky behaviors such as smoking. This study aims to analyze the need for educational media to enhance self-regulation as a preventive measure against smoking behavior among junior high school students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, limited to the needs analysis phase. The study subjects included 112 eighth-grade students and guidance and counseling teachers at a junior high school in Surabaya. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results indicated that students demonstrated a reasonably good level of self-regulation regarding the dangers of smoking; however, they still require more engaging and interactive educational media. Therefore, the development of technology-based media such as Augmented Reality and game-based learning has the potential to support guidance and counseling services in enhancing students’ self-regulation as a preventive measure against smoking behavior.

Abstract

Junior high school students are in a developmental phase that is vulnerable to various psychological problems, thus requiring appropriate support to maintain their psychological well-being. One strategy for identifying these problems is the Problem Checklist (DCM). Social support is an important factor influencing students’ psychological well-being. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and psychological well-being in private Islamic junior high school students in Surabaya. This study used a quantitative approach with a sample of 565 students selected from one of the private Islamic junior high schools in Surabaya. The data analysis technique used was product-moment correlation, performed in SPSS. The study found a significant positive relationship between social support and students’ psychological well-being, with a correlation coefficient of 0.585 and a p-value of 0.000. This finding indicates that the greater the social support students receive from parents, peers, and teachers, the higher their psychological well-being. The implications of this study emphasize the role of schools in strengthening social support through character development programs, collaborative activities, and structured mentoring to maintain and improve students’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the requirements of guidance and counseling services for innovative service tools in line with student characteristics. Methods – This study employed a descriptive qualitative research approach. Data was collected through observation, interviews with guidance and counseling teachers, and the distribution of questionnaires to 123 students. The study involved direct observation of guidance and counseling activities; interviews were conducted with three guidance counselors, each lasting 40-47 minutes. The instruments used included a media needs questionnaire and a self-esteem questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive percentage techniques to describe students’ needs regarding guidance and counseling services. Findings – The results of the study indicate that the use of media in guidance and counseling services remains limited to simple media such as PowerPoint and lecture methods. Meanwhile, the needs analysis revealed that students require more diverse media, with the percentage of needs for augmented reality media at 70%, animation media at 67%, digital media at 65%, inclusive media at 66%, and contextual media at 56%. Additionally, the results of the self-esteem analysis indicate variations across each measured aspect, suggesting that students’ self-esteem levels are not uniform.Research Implications – This study suggests that guidance and counseling services should consider utilizing a wider variety of technology-based media tailored to students’ needs. However, this study has limitations regarding the implementation and effectiveness of such media in practice. Therefore, future research is expected to develop and evaluate the use of technology-based guidance and counseling media in a broader context.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study is to examine the influence of academic self-efficacy and peer support on students’ learning motivation in mathematics among junior high school students. It aims to identify whether academic self-efficacy and peer relationships contribute to increasing learning motivation in mathematics both partially and simultaneously. Methodology: This study using a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design involving 345 junior high school students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using standardized academic self-efficacy, peer support, and learning motivation scales. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression and multiple linear regression through SPSS version 27 to determine the magnitude and significance of the relationships. Main Findings: The findings revealed that academic self-efficacy and peer support both have significant positive effects on students’ learning motivation in mathematics. Academic self-efficacy emerged as the strongest predictor, while peer support acted as an important factor enhancing students’ learning motivation in mathematics. Simultaneously, both variables explained a substantial portion of the variance in mathematics learning motivation. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study shows that motivation to learn mathematics can be influenced by academic self-efficacy and peer support. It is important for teachers to involve peers in the learning process and providing valuable insights for guidance and counseling teachers to foster supportive and confidence-building learning conditions.

Abstract

Career planning is an important aspect of guidance and counseling services in Vocational High Schools (SMK) because it is closely related to students’ readiness in determining further education and entering the world of work. However, in reality, many students still experience difficulties in planning their careers effectively. This condition is caused by a lack of self-understanding, limited career information, and inadequate ability to make career decisions. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services using the problem-solving technique in improving the career planning of vocational high school students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest model. The research subjects were eleventh-grade vocational high school students who had low to moderate levels of career planning. Data were collected using a career planning scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using statistical tests to compare the results before and after the implementation of the service. The results showed a significant increase in students’ career planning levels after participating in group guidance services using the problem-solving technique. These findings indicate that group guidance services with the problem-solving technique are effective in helping students understand their potential, identify various career alternatives, and make more directed career decisions. Therefore, this service can be used as a strategy by guidance and counseling teachers to improve the career planning abilities of vocational high school students. Abstract

Government policy mandated distance learning beginning in March 2020. The use of digital devices has increased significantly each year. According to APJII, internet penetration in Indonesia is projected to reach 79.50% in 2024, compared to 78.19% in 2023 and 77.01% in 2022. This data indicates a notable upward trend. The largest proportion of users falls within the 12-27 age group, which has contributed to the growing issue of gadget addiction among adolescents. Gadget addiction is characterized as maladaptive behavior involving excessive use of digital devices, resulting in negative physical, psychological, and social consequences. Targeted interventions are necessary to address this problem in teenagers. A review of relevant journals concludes that gadget addiction negatively affects adolescents and can be effectively mitigated through counseling services, both individual and group, provided by guidance and counseling teachers or with the involvement of family counseling. Interventions that utilize behavioral approaches, such as self-control and self-management, or that integrate behavioral and cognitive strategies, have demonstrated effectiveness. Afdalia, F., Sundari, R.
