Abstract

Studies related to the comparison of ectoparasites that infect snakehead from different habitats and their relationship to biometric conditions have not been widely studied. Thus, present study aimed to investigate the prevalence, intensity, dominance, and predilection of ectoparasites on snakehead collected from ditches, paddy fields, and swamps and correlate them with biometric conditions. In total of 90 snakehead fish were collected from ditches, paddy fields, and swamps. The observation of ectoparasites was performed on the gills, fins, and skin. The parameters measured in this study were ectoparasite profiles and biometric condition of fish. Specifically, the parameters of the ectoparasite profile included prevalence, intensity, dominance, and predilection. Meanwhile, the parameters of the biometric conditions were the length-weight relationship, the distribution of length and weight classes, and condition factors. Five species of ectoparasites that have been identified as Tetrahymena sp., Epistylis sp., Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus sp., and Gyrodactylus sp. Tetrahymena sp. infection in snakehead was reported for the first time. The ditch habitat had the highest prevalence and intensity, which were 76.7% and 15.4 ectoparasites/fish, respectively. Tetrahymena sp. and Epistylis sp. were detected in sneakhead from all habitats, Trichodina sp. was detected at ditch and paddy field habitats, whereas, Gyrodactylus sp. and Dactylogyrus sp. were only found in swamp habitats. The gill was the predilection organ that most vulnerable to ectoparasite infection. Infected Snakehead tend to have lower average weight and length than healthy snakehead. Snakehead with a weight range of 115.2-145.2 g and a length range of 258.5-268.5 mm tend to be more vulnerable to ectoparasite infection compared to other sizes. Keywords:Tetrahymena sp.PrevalenceIntensityPredilectionLength-weight relationship

Abstract

Water bikes can be used as one of the vehicles in water tourism areas such as Ulee Lheue. Water bikes are used as a medium for surface transportation and fishing. Of course, this can increase the enthusiasm of those who visit the tourist destination of Ulee Lheue on weekends and holidays. High enthusiasm can increase the number of tourists, which increases income and sustains the economy of people around Ulee Lheue. Personal watercraft are constructed using fibrous pins or floats, using propeller drives, and using bicycle frames, usually modified. The steering wheel has a plate at the front and is designed to control the direction of rotation (left and right). A good community economy is expected to deliver the goodness of the community itself. Therefore, watercraft manufacturing activities must be carried out in Ulee Lheue. The implementation of this activity takes place in his two phases of implementing the activity, including creating the water bike design and manufacturing the water bike frame. The existence of water bikes can be used as an alternative to water tourism like Ulee Lheue. Water bikes are used as a medium for surface transportation and fishing. Of course, this can increase the enthusiasm of the community to visit her Ulee Lheue, a tourist destination. In fact, this water he slide is a popular ride for visitors wanting to explore lakes, reservoirs, and artificial ponds.

Abstract

Abstract

Scarus fish play an important ecological role in supporting the health of coral reefs. Unfortunately, studies related to morphometric variations, growth patterns and condition factors of scarus fish are still unexplored. Hence, this research aimed to describe morphometric variations, growth patterns and condition factors of scarus fish (Scarus quoyi, Scarus rubroviolaceus and Scarus niger) collected from Pulau Weh water, Aceh. As many as  50 fish for each species were obtained through fishermen's catches. The main parameters investigated include morphometric comparisons, length and weight distribution, growth patterns and condition factors. The number of morphometric characters measured was 12 characters. Morphometric comparisons and condition factors between fish species were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by the Least Significant Difference Test (LSD) and discriminant function test. Meanwhile, comparative growth patterns were analyzed descriptively. The research results show that dorsal finbase length, pectoral fin length, and caudal peduncle depth were key characters in distinguishing the three species of scarus fish. A comparison of morphometric characters between Scarus quoyi and Scarus rubroviolaceus showed a  63.6% different character. Meanwhile, both Scarus rubroviolaceus and Scarus niger, and Scarus quoyi and Scarus niger showed a  54.5% different character. All scarus fish in this study had a negative allometric growth pattern (b<3) with condition factor values ranging from 1.008 to 1.020. Efforts to develop fishing gear selectivity and further research related to reproductive biology aspects of the scarus fish are essential to obtain comprehensive information and support sustainability programs.  Ikan genus scarus memiliki peran ekologis penting memelihara kesehatan terumbu karang.
