Abstract

This study examines how differentiated learning strategies contribute to the development of independence among children aged five to six at TK Al-Islam Bangkalan, a rural kindergarten in East Java, Indonesia. Using a single instrumental case study design, data were collected over four months through non-participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. Findings indicate that variations in content and process, supported by predictable routines and consistent teacher scaffolding, enabled most children to select learning materials and choose appropriate task difficulty. At the same time, a minority continued to require validation. Product differentiation and systematic assessment remained limited, reflecting constraints in teacher assessment literacy, time allocation, and class size. The study demonstrates the pedagogical potential of differentiated learning to foster initiative, responsibility, and self-confidence in low-resource early childhood settings. It highlights the necessity of practical, context-sensitive implementation strategies. The research provides evidence that differentiation principles can be adapted to rural and collectivist educational contexts and can inform discussions on culturally responsive pedagogy and equitable early childhood practice. Limitations include single-site sampling, reliance on teacher reports, and incomplete assessment artifacts, all of which limit generalizability. The study is significant for policy and practice because it links Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) objectives to observable developmental outcomes and identifies concrete barriers to scaling differentiated approaches. Recommended actions include targeted professional development on formative assessment and product differentiation, design-based collaborations to co-create feasible rubrics with teachers, and multi-site longitudinal studies to evaluate transferability and sustained impact on independence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of informal education in empowering women in the rural informal sector, thereby improving family economic conditions and promoting gender equality. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, the research was conducted in the Menganti District, Gresik Regency, involving women working in informal sectors. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that informal education through skills training, such as salted egg production and coconut shell charcoal processing, successfully enhanced women's technical skills, increased family income, and strengthened their self-confidence. Informal education also fostered social solidarity within the community, although women continued to face the double burden of balancing domestic responsibilities and economic activities. These results emphasize that informal education is not only a means of improving economic capacity but also catalyzes a shift in social values toward justice and gender equality. Women's empowerment through education must be accompanied by broader social structural changes and sustainable policy support to achieve inclusive and equitable development goals. Keywords: informal, women's empowerment, family economy, gender equality

Abstract

This study aims to examine the elements of work culture inheritance, inheritance processes, and informal learning strategies in the carpentry community in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia. The research approach used is a case study with data collection techniques through observation and interviews. The results of the study show that elements of work culture are inherited through informal learning based on direct practice, the use of Sundanese as the main medium, the maintenance of kinship values, and the combination of manual and machine technology in production activities. The majority of the community still depends on woodcraft for their livelihood, upholds Islamic cultural identity, and preserves the heritage of kelom geulis woodcraft. The process of cultural inheritance takes place through transformative, internalization, and transinternalization phases, and is strengthened by socialization mechanisms (through imitation) and enculturation (through life experiences, social interactions, and market dynamics). Informal learning strategies are carried out independently, utilizing learning resources from experienced people close to the individual, and are oriented towards market needs. The implications of this research emphasize the role of traditional communities as effective informal educational institutions in maintaining the sustainability of work skills and cultural values. Scientifically, these findings enrich the literature on non-formal education and cultural sociology, while providing a conceptual contribution to the understanding of the inheritance of traditional work skills in the context of modernization and socio-economic change in Indonesia. Keywords: inheritance of work culture, informal education, woodworking, enculturation and internalization, traditional community

The researchers are the key instruments from October 2022 to December 2022. The research location is in Purwosari Village, Purwosari District, Bojonegoro Regency, Indonesia. The research subjects were obtained using the snowball sampling technique. The number of research informants was seven informants consisting of five informants who were members of the youth group, one chairman of the youth group, and one village head. Primary data sources were researchers from informants who had attended training, and secondary data sources from Karang Taruna Sasana Krida Muda documents and Purwosari Village documents. Field data collection uses participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies. Research data analysis uses three stages, namely: data condensation, data reduction, and presentation and conclusion. The results of the study showed that: (1) youth leadership training aims to train leaders' communication skills, analysis skills on field conditions, the formation of leaders as good listeners, firm and responsible leaders, and leadership skills in making decisions; and (2) maximizing village potential through land use programs as hydroponic fruit gardens, vegetables, and “reservoir” fisheries.
