Abstract

ABSTRACTEmpowerment programs implemented through mentoring and coaching activities have so far not succeeded in encouraging the independence of coastal communities in continuing management initiatives that have been initiated with the government and the private sector. Generally, community involvement is only seen in the early stages, namely planning and implementation, while aspects of evaluation, monitoring, and program sustainability have not been able to be managed independently. Therefore, this community service activity aims to increase community capacity and knowledge related to Mangrove Ecotourism management in Lembar Selatan Village, West Lombok Regency. This activity was carried out through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with several stages, namely preparation, implementation, field visits to ecotourism areas, and evaluation. The participants involved totaled 20 people including management and conservation groups, students, and representatives from non-governmental organizations as activity partners.. Based on the results of the implementation of counseling activities, it was found that this activity had a positive impact, reflected in the high participation of the community in the discussion. The counseling has broadened the community's understanding of the importance of sustainable mangrove ecosystem management. The community began to realize that mangroves have economic value as well as a strategic role in preserving the environment, especially through the use of environmental services such as ecotourism. This understanding is in line with government policies in efforts to preserve the coastal environment for the sake of sustainability. Keywords: Counseling; Community Empowerment; Ecotourism; Mangrove Management.

Abstract

Villages have a strategic role in supporting sustainable development goals, including environmental management. In West Lombok Regency, which is prone to disasters, environmental aspects are an important factor in assessing village independence through the Village Development Index (IDM). This study aims to analyze environmentally-based village development and the relationship between environmental, social, and economic resilience as the determinants of IDM. The method used is quantitative descriptive with secondary data from the NTB Province PMD Dukcapil Service and literature studies, as well as primary data through interviews with stakeholders. The analysis was carried out through observation and simple statistics. The results of the study show that the Social Resilience Index has the strongest influence on IDM compared to the other two indices. The Environmental Resilience Index has indicators that are still low, especially in the Disaster Response aspect, with 50 villages in the super priority category and 47 villages in the priority category. In contrast, the Environmental Quality indicator shows better achievements. There is a weak correlation between the Social and Economic Resilience Index, while no correlation was found between the other indices. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening social and environmental aspects in village development strategies to achieve independent village status. Villages have formulated environmentally-based development activities in village planning documents, but activities are still routine and administrative. There is a need for a transformation of the village environmental development approach from merely fulfilling administrative obligations to solving environmental problems in a strategic and measurable manner.

Abstract

Birds have a vital ecological role as pollinators, seed dispersers, and insect population controllers. Their diversity is super important in ecology and conservation studies. This study aims to identify and analyze the bird community structure in the Special Purpose Forest Area of Muhammadiyah University of Mataram. Field surveys were conducted in June 2025 using the point count method at four observation points selected through purposive sampling. Observations were carried out over three time periods with two repetitions at each point. The study recorded 26 bird species from 23 families, totaling 177 individuals. Dominant species included Pycnonotus goiavier, Orthotomus sepium, and Todiramphus chloris. Additionally, endemic species of Nusa Tenggara such as Otus jolandae and Pitta concinna were recorded. Ecological analysis showed a Shannon-Wiener diversity index of 2.99, a Margalef species richness index of 4.83, and an Evenness index of 0.92. These values reflect a stable, healthy bird community with an even distribution of individuals without the dominance of any particular species. Based on these findings, this study recommends strengthening conservation efforts through the preservation of natural vegetation, regular monitoring of bird populations, and further research.

Abstract

One of the dangerous heavy metals that can build up in aquatic biota is mercury (Hg). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the environmental health condition in possibly polluted areas near Pelangan Village, Sekotong Subdistrict, West Lombok, and to ascertain the heavy metal level in Gracilaria sp. Using samples taken from Pelangan, Elak-Elak, and Mentigi, the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) method was used to analyze non-essential heavy metal pollution in Gracilaria sp. According to the findings, Gracilaria samples taken from the Sekotong Subdistrict's coastline area had the greatest levels of mercury pollution, with 0.05 mg/kg in Elak-Elak and 0.14 mg/kg in Pelangan. On the other hand, samples of Gracilaria sp. from the Mentigi coast in North Lombok did not exhibit any mercury contamination (0.00 mg/kg). The levels of mercury accumulation in Gracilaria sp. are classified as dangerous since they surpass the 0.03 mg/kg maximum permissible limit for mercury in consumable products established by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 7387:2009). Additionally, Gracilaria substrate samples from Pelangan had a mercury contamination level of 0.05 mg/kg, greater than that of Mentigi and Elak-Elak (both at 0.00 mg/kg). The proximate content of Graciaria sp was influenced by the sampling location but was not influenced by mercury contamination.

Abstract

Macroalgae are photosynthetic organisms that grow in aquatic environments and play an important role in marine and coastal ecosystems. Macroalgae grow in almost all waters, including in the coastal area of Batu Layar. Batu Layar has particular and distinctive characteristics compared to other locations on Lombok Island. However, in recent years, supporting tourism facilities have begun to be built which will affect the composition of living biota including macroalgae. Therefore, data was collected on the diversity of changes in the composition of macroalgae in the future. This study aims to determine the diversity of macroalgae growing on Batu Layar Beach, West Lombok. This study is a descriptive exploratory study. Quadrant placement and sampling were carried out using the purposive sampling method. The results showed that the number of species growing in Batu Layar waters was 41 species. These species are spread across two observation stations. Station 1 is dominated by S. polycystum while station 2 is dominated by P. australis. The current strength and depth parameters of Station 1 were higher than those of Station 2, while the ammonia, phosphate and turbidity of Station 2 were higher than those of Station 1.
