Abstract

Fire incidents continue to increase in various regions in Indonesia due to low public awareness of prevention and early response measures. This community service activity aims to improve students' knowledge, skills, and preparedness in using fire blankets and portable fire extinguishers through experience-based training. The implementation methods include interactive lectures, live demonstrations, and controlled firefighting simulations. Pre- and post-training evaluations were used to measure changes in knowledge, skills, and safety attitudes. A total of 180 participants (aged 15–18 years) attended the training and completed the entire evaluation series. The results showed an average increase in knowledge scores from 52.3 to 86.8 points (+66%). Practical competence increased from 14% to 81% of participants who were assessed as being able to use the tools correctly. Attitudes and confidence in emergency response also showed significant improvement, from a score of 2.4 to 4.1 on the Likert scale. Qualitative feedback confirmed that participants felt better prepared to deal with small fires and had a better understanding of the importance of a safety culture in the school environment. These findings indicate that practice-based training is effective in strengthening fire preparedness among secondary school-aged groups. This workshop model offers an educational approach that can be replicated by other educational institutions as a risk mitigation strategy and to strengthen community-based safety culture.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of nanopropolis on DMBA-induced mammary tumors in rats. After the first tumor appearance, twenty-eight rats were divided into seven groups. Groups 1, 2, and 3 served as recipients of nanopropolis treatments at dosages of 8, 32, and 56 μg/mL, respectively. Group 4 received propolis at 233 μg/mL, Group 5 served as the treatment control, Group 6 received DMBA only, and Group 7 served as the normal control. The effects of nanopropolis at 32 μg/mL and propolis at 233 μg/mL were similar in reducing tumor size, healing wounds caused by the tumor, and eliminating cancer cells. Furthermore, the study suggested a relationship between particle size of the absorbent material and its effectiveness. Overall, nanopropolis was very effective in treating mammary gland tumors and breast cancer even at small concentrations.

Abstract

BACKGROUND Scleroderma is an immune-mediated connective tissue disease, with interstitial lung disease as one of its manifestations. Physalis angulata (P. angulata) or ciplukan has shown potential in treating fibrosis, but its role in preventing lung inflammation and fibrosis remains unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of P. angulata extract in a bleomycin (BLM)-induced scleroderma rat. METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 6 groups. For lung inflammation prevention, 3 groups received: (1) BLM only, (2) BLM+50 mg/kgBW P. angulata, and (3) BLM+100 mg/kgBW P. angulata. After 14 days, rats were sacrificed and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) leukocyte count, interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels, and lung injury score were assessed. For fibrosis prevention, another 3 groups received the same interventions and were sacrificed after 51 days. Fibrosis score, fibrosis area, hydroxyproline, transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) levels were analyzed. BLM was administered subcutaneously, while P. angulata was given orally for 14 days. IL-6, TGF-β, and MMP-13 were measured by ELISA and hydroxyproline by colorimetric method. Mean differences and p-values were calculated using appropriate statistical tests. RESULTS P. angulata extract did not prevent lung inflammation, as there were no differences in BAL leukocyte count (p = 0.126), IL-6 levels (p = 0.173), or lung injury scores (p = 0.397) between the BLM-only group and those receiving P. angulata. The extract also did not prevent lung fibrosis, with no differences in fibrosis scores (p = 0.173), fibrosis area (p = 0.359), hydroxyproline (p = 0.295), TGF-β (p = 0.374), or MMP-13 (p = 0.088) levels among groups. CONCLUSIONS P. angulata extract did not prevent the development of lung inflammation or fibrosis.

Abstract

BackgroundPulmonary fibrosis is often found in infectious diseases and chemical exposure in the work environment. Antifibrotic effects can befibropreventive and fibrolysis. Bleomycin can cause inflammation and pulmonary fibrosis. Catechin is proven can repair liverdamages due to alcohol induction. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of antifibrotic green tea catechin on reducing thearea of rat lung fibrotic.MethodsThis research was carried out in vivo experimentally in the Laboratory Animal Management Unit at Faculty of Veterinary MedicineIPB in 4 groups of rat experiments, consisting of 3 rats in the negative control group, 3 rats in the positive control group, 3 rats in thegroup of rats given bleomycin on the 8th day and 28thwith green tea extract every day from day 0 to 49 days (fibropreventive), 3groups of rats given bleomycin days 0 and 21 with green tea extract every day from day 15 to 49 (fibrolysis). Histopathologicalexamination was performe for all groups of rats.ResultsThis study showed that administration of green tea extract in fibropreventive groups and fibrolysis groups could reduce the fibrosisarea in rat lungs based on Aschroft's modified scale.ConclusionBased on the results of this study it was found that the anti-fibrotic activity of green tea extract was proven to be able to suppressthe development of pulmonary fibrosis both by fibropreventive and fibrolysis

Abstract

This research aims to examine the implementation and effectiveness of the Starlight Cadre activity to improve speaking skills of the students at SMAN 1 Tuntang English Club at the 2025/2026 academic year. This research using a qualitative descriptive research design and included students of the English Club who were selected through random sampling. Interviews, observation, and documentation were utilized in collecting data for information about students' perceptions and experiences. The data analysis were interpreted according to Miles and Huberman's data condensation, display, and drawing conclusions phases. Findings are that the Starlight Cadre is applied actively and systematically through interactive speaking and listening activities such as storytelling, flashcard games, and pair discussions. Students exhibited noticeable improvement in fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and confidence. The observation revealed a positive and supportive learning atmosphere that encouraged participation and communication. The program successfully combined communicative and learner-centered approaches to gain linguistic achievement and motivation. The findings show that well-designed extracurricular activities can potentially enhance students' English speaking ability and confidence in future communication.
