Abstract

Abstract: This study explores students’ performance in descriptive writing. Forty-five English Education sophomore students participated to be the respondents. The data were collected from students’ descriptive writing performance using a 5-Likert scale and they were quantitatively analyzed through the descriptive and factor analysis tests. Students’ descriptive writing were measured through the means of components of grammar, punctuation, coherence, cohesion, and content. Other substantial findings corresponded with the principal component analyses that determined the presence of 5 components with the eigenvalue outreaching 1, positioning 31%, 27.3%, 19.7%, 12.6%, and 9.4% of the variances accordingly. This referred to the factorial analysis that claimed 2 extracted components with a total of 58.32% of the variance. The component 1 was 31.00% and component 2 was 27.32%. The interpretation of these components is coherent with the pilot results on the descriptive writing performance scale, in which the component 1 shows the positive affect items and the component 2 partially indicates the negative affect items.  Keywords: Analytic scoring, descriptive writing, factor analysisPENINGKATAN MENULIS DESKRIPTIF MAHASISWA:  PENERAPAN ASESMEN PENSKORAN ANALITIK Abstrak: Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi capaian peningkatan mahasiswa dalam menulis esai deskriptif. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze whether plyometric single leg hurdle hops and alternate jump had an influence on front kick speed. This is a quasi-experimental study using a Non-Randomized Pre-Post-Control Group Design. The population comprises 33 participants, while the sample comprises 33 participants. Saturated sampling was used to collect data. This study’s instrument was a front kick speed test (johansyah lubis). The paired sample t test was used to analyze the data, followed by the ANOVA test, all performed using the SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) 22.0 computer program. The paired sample t test results for single leg hurdle hops and varying jump speeds for right and left front kicks indicate that the significance level for each variable is sig 0.000 <0.05. ANOVA indicates that single leg hurdle hops have a plyometric effect on the right foot. Fcount 90.452> Ftable 4.46 and Fcount 151.111> left leg Ftable 4.46, plyometric alternate jump with right leg Fcount 63.380> Ftable 4.46 with left leg Fcount 93,389> As a result of Ftable 4.46, it can be concluded that there is a statistically significant difference in the results of single leg hurdle hops and alternate front kick speed jumps across three different groups, with a significance level of sig 0.05. The results of the post-hoc multiple comparisons (LSD) test of independent variables that have a significant effect on increasing the dependent variable showed that the single leg hurdle hops group achieved a right front kick speed of 5.454, while the left group achieved a speed of 6.181, indicating that single leg hurdle hops are more influential. Based on the analysis above, it can be concluded that each group of the single leg hurdle hops plyometric exercise group increases the speed of the right and left front kicks more than the alternate jump plyometric exercise group or the control group exercise.

Abstract

Abstract

Sports performance is influenced by the existence of positive and negative expectations on a particular thing. Positive expectations will have a positive impact on appearance, as well as negative expectations will have a negative impact on appearance. Positive Expectations on Sportsmen are influenced by their motivation in exercising. Great motivation will result in maximum performance. One external factor that could affect motivation to the athlete is coverage in the mass media. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of mass media coverage on the motivation of athletes. The research used qualitative design with phenomenology approach, that is reducing psychological experience of sportsman related to news in mass media. The method used to obtain data by conducting interviews, observation and documentation. The influence of mass media coverage on athletes, especially in improving degree in execution of tasks. Positively perceived news in the mass media build motivates the sportsman to try to get better. They become motivated and more enthusiastic in practicing and competing. The condition implies that when the sportsman appears to be news material in the mass media can positively increase hisspirits both in practice and in the face of the game. On the other hand the negative news in the mass media did not make them pull away or down. Instead of negative news there is actually a motivation for them to show that they can be more achievers again and not as reported. It is also a correction for them to improve themselves. Suggestions that can be drawn from the conclusions and implications of this study are as follows: For athletes, can be a reference for how to process information appropriately, to develop motivation. For the media, to help the athlete through the construction of news coverage in the mass media to build athletes motivation.
