Abstract

This research discusses the importance of maintaining Indonesian national identity in English language teaching and learning in the era of globalization. English as a global lingua franca is often considered to have the potential to erode local cultural values. Through a qualitative approach, this study analyzes the experiences and perceptions of 23 lecturers from the English Education Study Program of UIN Raden Intan Lampung. The findings show that the majority of lecturers emphasize the importance of integrating national identity into English education, despite facing challenges such as the dominance of Western perspectives in the curriculum and resistance to change. Proposed strategies include the use of local literature, project-based learning, as well as strengthening teacher training to support culturally responsive pedagogy. The research also highlights the role of technology as an innovative tool to connect students with their cultural heritage while improving English language skills. By identifying challenges and opportunities, the results of this study provide practical recommendations for creating a curriculum that strikes a balance between English proficiency and the preservation of Indonesia's national identity

Abstract

Social Studies (IPS) has a strategic role in shaping the character and national insight of students. However, social studies learning in junior high school is often considered less interesting and less relevant to students' daily lives, the argument shows that there are still many social studies teachers who use conventional learning methods such as lectures and assignments, which tend to make students passive and less involved in the learning process. This can lead to low student interest and motivation to learn, which in turn has an impact on the less than optimal achievement of learning objectives and internalization of Pancasila Student Profile values. This study aims to identify the effect of implementing differentiated learning strategies on strengthening the character values of the Pancasila Student Profile at SMP Negeri 1 Kasui. The approach used is mixed methods, involving quantitative and qualitative analysis. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires of teachers and students during two learning cycles. The results showed that differentiated strategies are effective in supporting students' character and academic development simultaneously

Abstract

This study explores prospective mathematics teachers' perceptions of the importance of positive psychology and cultural diversity in mathematics learning within multicultural classrooms. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The participants were fifteen prospective mathematics teachers from various regions, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires and then analyzed using thematic analysis. This study was conducted in April 2025 at the State Islamic University (UIN) Jurai Siwo Lampung. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis as developed by Braun and Clarke (2006). The findings reveal that most prospective teachers are initially aware of positive psychology's role in creating a supportive learning environment, including using praise, encouraging positive emotions, and developing students' potential. In addition, they view cultural diversity as a valuable aspect that can enrich the learning process, although their understanding remains general and is not yet reflected in concrete instructional planning. These findings highlight the need to integrate positive psychology and multicultural education into teacher education curricula to equip future teachers with inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogical competencies. This study also provides a foundation for developing training programs that prepare prospective teachers to manage multicultural classrooms effectively.

Abstract

The misuse of cultural elements by adolescents on social media has raised ethical concerns in multicultural societies. Many young people adopt traditional symbols or attire without understanding their original meanings, leading to cultural distortion and disrespect. This study aims to analyze the forms, causes, and ethical awareness of adolescents regarding cultural appropriation in the globalization era. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through netnographic observation, in-depth interviews, and visual documentation with adolescents aged 15–19 in Bandar Lampung. The results show that most adolescents engage in cultural appropriation unconsciously, motivated by global trends, peer influence, and low cultural literacy. Common practices include wearing traditional clothes as fashion, remixing traditional dances, and using sacred symbols for entertainment. The findings emphasize the need for cultural ethics education and digital literacy programs to help adolescents appreciate cultural diversity responsibly. This study contributes to the development of multicultural education and ethical digital culture among youth.
