Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine Generation Z's preferences in choosing financial risk management strategies, with a focus on comparing the use of emergency funds and Islamic insurance. Generation Z, known for their adaptability to technology and information, faces complex financial challenges amidst global economic uncertainty. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were obtained from in-depth interviews with a number of Generation Z respondents in urban areas. The results show that although the majority of respondents understand the importance of emergency funds as a form of short-term protection, there is increasing interest in Islamic insurance as an alternative that is considered more systematic and in line with religious values. The main factors influencing this preference include the level of financial literacy, trust in Islamic financial institutions, and perceptions of long-term benefits. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of more relevant financial education strategies for the younger generation. In Press, Journal Pre-proof. Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze market efficiency and the transmission of micro-volatility between the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) and the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) using high-frequency data from September 22 to October 20, 2025. The primary objective is to evaluate the volatility of returns, co-movement, microstructure volatility clustering, and the buffering effect of Sharia-compliant indices. Methods: The study uses logarithmic continuous returns to assess return volatility and co-movement. Descriptive statistics are employed to examine market fluctuations, while the volatility clustering effect and rapid shock transmission between the two indices are analyzed. Pre-test and post-test evaluations, along with observational analysis, are used to examine the relationship and behavior of these indices during the study period. Results: The findings reveal that both IHSG and JII exhibit significant short-term fluctuations, indicative of typical micro-volatility in emerging markets. However, JII shows relatively lower volatility and fewer extreme negative returns, suggesting that Sharia screening provides a stabilizing effect on the market. The study also identifies a strong co-movement between the two indices, highlighting high short-term integration despite brief divergences due to differences in index structure and liquidity profiles. Additionally, the analysis confirms volatility clustering, with calm periods followed by sharp movements, and rapid shock transmission between the indices.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study examines the role of hoarding (iḥtikār) and food distribution inequality in driving food inflation in Indonesia from the perspective of Islamic microeconomics. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative approach is employed through a systematic literature review of classical fiqh sources, contemporary Islamic economic theory, national macroeconomic data, and policy-related reports. Findings: The study finds that hoarding contributes directly to food inflation, social welfare deterioration, and distributive injustice. Islamic economic principles prohibit such practices due to their inconsistency with distributive justice (‘adl), public welfare (maṣlaḥah), and the objectives of Sharīʿah (maqāṣid al-sharīʿah). Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to secondary data and conceptual analysis without empirical field investigation. Practical implications: State intervention, price controls, and Sharīʿah-based redistributive instruments such as zakat and infaq are justified to correct market failures. Originality/value: This paper integrates Islamic microeconomic principles into contemporary food inflation discourse. Paper type: Literature review Keywords: distributive justice, food distribution, hoarding, inflation, iḥtikār, Islamic microeconomics

Abstract

This study examines the impact of E-Accounting on the revenue of MSMEs in North Sumatra Province, addressing gaps in the existing literature regarding the role of accounting literacy. The study also explores the challenges faced by MSMEs in adopting E-Accounting. Using a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory sequential design, quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires from 271 MSMEs across seven districts and cities and analyzed using PLS-SEM. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 20 purposively selected MSMEs. The results indicate that E-Accounting has a significant positive effect on MSME revenue; however, accounting literacy does not function as a significant moderating variable. This suggests that the benefits of E-Accounting in increasing revenue do not depend solely on users’ accounting knowledge. Qualitative findings reveal that although MSMEs acknowledge the benefits of E-Accounting, its use remains largely administrative rather than strategic. Key challenges include limited digital infrastructure, insufficient training, and a strong reliance on intuitive decision-making. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Sharia principles, such as trustworthiness and the protection of wealth, providing insight into how Islamic values influence MSME financial practices. This study offers practical and culturally relevant recommendations to improve E-Accounting adoption and strengthen MSMEs’ financial resilience through the alignment of technology and ethical principles.

Abstract

The growing public interest in Sharia-compliant investments has driven the need to utilize technology that facilitates access to the capital market. One emerging innovation is the Sharia Online Trading System (SOTS), a digital-based Sharia-compliant stock trading platform designed to help Muslim investors transact in accordance with Sharia principles. However, its use still garners less than favorable public perception, primarily because the system is still integrated with conventional mechanisms. This study aimed to determine the influence of Technology Use, Perceived Ease of Use, and Facilitating Conditions on stock investment decisions through SOTS. The method used was a quantitative approach with a causal associative approach. The study sample consisted of 85 active SOTS student users selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria. Data were collected online using a Likert-scale questionnaire. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the three independent variables simultaneously had a significant influence on stock investment decisions, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.745. Partially, Technology Use was the most dominant variable compared to the other variables. These findings confirm that the success of investing through Sharia-compliant digital platforms depends not only on the quality of the technology used, but also on the perceived ease of use of the system and the available infrastructure support. Therefore, system development and education for potential investors are crucial steps to increase public participation in Sharia-compliant stock investing in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of mudharabah and murabahah financing on the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) among Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) members in Percut Sei Tuan District. The research background is based on the strategic role of MSMEs in the national economy, but they still face a major obstacle in the form of limited capital. BMT as a sharia financial institution is present to offer financing solutions based on sharia contracts, specifically mudharabah and murabahah, which are expected to be able to support the growth of community businesses. The research method used a quantitative approach with primary data collected through questionnaires. The research subjects were BMT members in Percut Sei Tuan District, with a Likert scale as the measurement instrument. Data analysis was conducted through classical assumption tests (normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity tests) and multiple regression tests including the t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination (R²). The results showed that mudharabah financing had a positive and significant effect on the development of MSMEs, while murabahah financing had no significant effect. Simultaneously, both types of financing influence the development of MSMEs with an Adjusted R Square value of 0.165, meaning that only 16.5% of the variation in MSME development can be explained by these two variables, while the remaining 83.5% is influenced by other factors outside the study. This finding emphasizes the importance of optimizing mudharabah financing in encouraging MSME growth. Furthermore, additional strategies are needed, both from Islamic financial institutions and local governments, to improve access to capital and Islamic financial literacy for MSMEs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the principle of justice (al-‘adl) in mudharabah contracts within Islamic Microfinance Institutions (LKMS) in Indonesia. The rapid growth of the Islamic economy demands the application of contracts that align with Islamic values, one of which is mudharabah—a partnership between the shahibul maal (capital provider) and the mudharib (entrepreneur)—based on fair and transparent profit-sharing principles. The research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach and a comparative analysis between the concepts of fiqh muamalah and modern regulations such as the DSN-MUI fatwas and OJK regulations concerning LKMS. The findings reveal that, conceptually, the mudharabah contract reflects the value of justice through the balance of rights and obligations between capital owners and business managers. However, in practice, LKMS still face several challenges, including institutional dominance in determining profit-sharing ratios (nisbah), low transparency in business reporting, and weak sharia supervision. These issues indicate a gap between the normative principles of fiqh muamalah and their regulatory implementation in practice. This study recommends the formulation of maqashid sharia-based contract frameworks, the enhancement of human resource capacity in fiqh muamalah and Islamic accounting, and the strengthening of the Sharia Supervisory Board’s function to ensure comprehensive implementation of justice in every contract.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamic relationship between zakat distribution, poverty depth, income inequality, and economic growth in Indonesia within the framework of sustainable development. Using semiannual data from the first semester of 2011 to the first semester of 2025, the analysis applies a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to capture both long-run equilibrium relationships and short-run dynamics among the variables. Poverty is measured using the Poverty Gap Index (P1), which reflects the depth and severity of poverty rather than merely its incidence. The results confirm the existence of a stable long-run cointegration relationship between zakat, poverty depth, income inequality, and economic growth. In the long run, zakat distribution shows a significant negative elasticity of −0.842, indicating that a 1% increase in zakat distribution reduces poverty depth by approximately 0.84%. Income inequality exerts the strongest structural influence with a positive elasticity of 1.915, while economic growth reduces poverty with a smaller elasticity of −0.276. The error correction term (−0.431) indicates relatively rapid adjustment toward long-run equilibrium, with about 43% of short-run disequilibrium corrected within one semester. Impulse response and variance decomposition analyses further reveal that zakat contributes meaningfully to medium- and long-term poverty dynamics. These findings suggest that zakat functions as a redistributive stabilizer embedded within the macroeconomic system, complementing economic growth and mitigating inequality. This study does not account for informal zakat flows, which may imply that the estimated macro effect is conservative. Overall, the study provides empirical support for integrating Islamic social finance into national sustainable development strategies aimed at poverty reduction and inclusive growth.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has given rise to various disruptive innovations, one of which is the metaverse concept. In the context of the financial industry, the metaverse opens new opportunities for providing more interactive, personalized, and efficient services. This article aims to comprehensively analyze the potential and challenges of implementing the metaverse concept in Islamic banking through a literature review of various scientific publications, industry reports, and other relevant sources that discuss the relationship between metaverse technology and Islamic financial principles. In terms of potential, the metaverse offers various strategic opportunities for Islamic banking, including the development of virtual branches that enable direct interaction between customers and bank employees in real time without geographical limitations, increasing financial literacy through virtual experience-based education, and creating a digital halal ecosystem that aligns with Islamic values. Furthermore, the integration of blockchain technology into the metaverse can support transparency, transaction efficiency, and Sharia compliance through the implementation of smart contracts based on Islamic muamalah principles. However, the implementation of the metaverse in Islamic banking also presents complex challenges. This article concludes that the successful implementation of the metaverse concept in Islamic banking relies heavily on cross-sector collaboration between regulators, industry players, academics, and the Islamic scholar community to develop a framework that encourages innovation while maintaining compliance with Islamic principles. The findings of this study are expected to provide theoretical and practical contributions to the development of sustainable digital transformation strategies for Islamic banking in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Fifth Industrial Revolution.
