Abstract

This study aims to provide a theoretical analysis of the implementation of the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method in Arabic language instruction at Islamic Higher Education institutions. The research is grounded in the reality that Arabic teaching in Indonesia remains dominated by traditional approaches focused on grammar and translation, while students’ communicative competence remains relatively low. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, the study collected data from books, journal articles, theses, and other relevant documents, which were critically analyzed and synthesized. The findings reveal that CLT is theoretically grounded in the view of language as communication and in the framework of communicative competence. The advantages of CLT include increasing learning motivation, language fluency, active participation, and the integration of the four language skills. However, its application faces several challenges, particularly at the institutional level, such as limited lecturer competence, large class sizes, inadequate teaching materials, passive learning culture, and insufficient infrastructure. A critical analysis affirms that CLT is highly relevant in addressing the challenges of Arabic language teaching in the modern era, especially in the context of Islamic Higher Education. This research is expected to serve as a conceptual foundation for developing more communicative, adaptive, and contextual Arabic teaching strategies. Keywords: Communicative Method, Arabic Language Teaching, Islamic Higher Education, Communicative Competence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using Wordwall, an educational game-based learning medium, on the Arabic learning interest of eighth-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma’had Al-Zaytun. The problem underlying this research is the students’ low interest in learning Arabic, which is influenced by the perception that the subject is difficult and monotonous. The method used in this study is quantitative with a pre-experimental design of the one-group pretest–posttest type. The research population includes all eighth-grade students, totaling 405, with a sample of 44 students selected using cluster sampling techniques. The research instrument was a learning interest questionnaire consisting of 30 statement items using a five-point Likert scale. Data analysis included validity, reliability, normality, and linearity tests, as well as paired t-tests and simple linear regression. The results showed an increase in the average learning interest score from 102.16 (pretest) to 110.91 (posttest). The significance value of p < 0.001 indicates a significant effect of using Wordwall on increasing students’ Arabic learning interest. The determination coefficient (R²) of 0.539 indicates that 53.9% of the variation in students’ learning interest can be explained by the use of the Wordwall medium. These findings confirm that the use of Wordwall creates an interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere, capable of enhancing students’ motivation and active participation in Arabic learning. Therefore, digital game-based media such as Wordwall are recommended as innovative alternatives to improve students’ learning interest in madrasah settings. Keywords: Arabic Language, Learning Interest, Educational Game, Wordwall, Interactive Learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Dormitory Mentor Teachers in shaping the disciplinary character of fifth-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma’had Al-Zaytun. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects consisted of dormitory mentor teachers and fifth-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that dormitory mentor teachers act as role models, guides, directors, and controllers in instilling student discipline through habituation, exemplary behavior, and continuous supervision. Supporting factors include students’ awareness, an orderly dormitory environment, and teacher collaboration, while inhibiting factors are differences in student characteristics and lack of supervision outside dormitory hours. Thus, dormitory mentor teachers play an essential role in shaping students’ disciplinary character through consistent modeling and guidance.

Abstract

The research is motivated by the importance of instilling an attitude of tolerance in elementary school students, the reality in the field shows that even though students have known tolerance, problems such as egocentric attitudes are still found in the classroom, Therefore, this study aims to describe the role of teachers and their application in instilling an attitude of tolerance to grade IV students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The subjects of the study were teachers and fourth grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun, Data was obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. To strengthen the analysis, this study refers to James A. Banks' multicultural education theory and Gordon Allport's contact hypothesis which is relevant to instilling the value of tolerance through equality in opinion. The results of the study show that teachers have a central role in instilling tolerance through various approaches. As a learning resource and educator, teachers emphasize the importance of respecting differences and respecting the opinions of others. As facilitators, teachers create group discussion spaces to get students used to working together and resolving differences democratically. In their role as classroom managers, teachers apply discipline rules, as well as an educational reward and punishment system. Keywords: Teacher’s role, tolerance attitude, students.

Abstract

Al-Farābī’s contributions to Islamic philosophy extend deeply into the philosophy of language, yet scholarly attention to this dimension remains limited. This study re-examines al-Farābī’s linguistic philosophy by focusing on three interrelated dimensions: logic, symbol, and reasoning. The background of the research lies in the need to reassess classical frameworks in light of contemporary debates on language, cognition, and meaning, where non-Western traditions remain underrepresented. The objective is to explicate how al-Farābī conceptualizes language not merely as a communicative tool, but as an epistemic system for organizing rational thought and symbolic representation. Using a qualitative method, the study employs textual-philosophical analysis of al-Farābī’s major works, including Kitāb al-Ḥurūf, Kitāb al-Alfāẓ al-Musta‘mala fī al-Manṭiq, and his commentary on De Interpretatione, supported by recent scholarly findings. The results reveal that al-Farābī understands language as a structured expression of the intellect, capable of conveying both demonstrative propositions and imaginative constructs. His classification of syllogisms into demonstrative, dialectical, rhetorical, poetic, and sophistical shows the multiplicity of language functions, each with distinct epistemological and moral purposes. Furthermore, his reflections on metaphor, rhetoric, and prophetic discourse demonstrate the cognitive and ethical role of symbolic language in shaping society and cultivating virtue. The study concludes that al-Farābī’s philosophy of language integrates logical rigor with symbolic depth, offering an early model of semiotic realism in which words, concepts, and referents form a triadic relationship grounded in reason and truth. This synthesis provides a foundational contribution to the Islamic intellectual tradition while also enriching contemporary philosophy of language, hermeneutics, and intercultural dialogue.
