Abstract

Islamic education serves not only as a means of transferring religious knowledge but also as a social space that shapes students’ character, values, and democratic awareness. This article aims to analyze how Islamic education can function as a public space that enables student participation in decision-making processes within the school environment. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method at Madrasah Ainul Falah. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving teachers, students, and school administrators. The findings indicate that student participation in school decision-making can enhance democratic awareness, social responsibility, and leadership skills among students. Furthermore, the practice of deliberation implemented in student organization activities and madrasah discussion forums serves as a vehicle for democratic education that aligns with Islamic values. Thus, Islamic education holds great potential to become a public sphere that fosters a democratic culture rooted in Islamic values.

Abstract

This study examines the high rate of judicial divorce among women of low education in Madura This research is a field study using a qualitative method. The data originated from primary data based on observation and interviews, and secondary data in the form of statistics. Using analysis based on sociology of gender theories, specifically the Women and Development (WaD) and Talcott Parson’s structural feminism theory, this study obtained three findings. First, the dynamics of divorce in Madura increased in the last three years  (2018-2020).   By type, divorces in Madura are mostly judicial than repudiatory,. The second finding is that there are two categories of factors underlying the rise of judicial divorce. The first is direct factors such as the economy, abandonment, and domestic violence. The second category is indirect factors, such as low education level,  while only 7% had higher education. From the perspective of Parson’s structural feminism theory, the study also found that the high number of women with low education levels involved in a judicial divorce in Madura negatively impacts their existence and experience. Abstract

This article discusses the notions of conservatism and religious moderatism through case studies of two contemporary Islamic organizations in Madura, Indonesia, namely Forum Kiai Muda Madura (FKM) and the Gerakan Santri-Pelajar Rahmatan Lil'alamin (GESPER) in Madura, Indonesia. These two mass organizations are part of the contemporary religious reality that significantly influences the religious dynamics of the Madurese community in Indonesia. This article uses qualitative research methods and Michel Foucault's theory of power relations. This study finds three findings. First, FKM and GESPER are local Islamic organizations in Madura that were both born and driven by a pesantren community consisting of Kiai, Lora, and santri. Second, based on its understanding and thoughts, the Islamic mass organization FKM's conservative religious view tends to be textual and exclusive. This mass organization is filled by the pesantren community outside the organizational structure of Nahdhlatul Ulama (NU), but culturally identify as adherents of NU. Meanwhile, the Islamic mass organization GESPER is an Islamic group that puts forward the values of moderation and tends to be dynamic and inclusive. Included in this line are the Islamic boarding schools, which are active in the organizational structure of NU in Madura. Third, although both were born in Islamic boarding schools, the two are often involved in friction due to differences in addressing contemporary Islamic social issues. This friction includes socio-religious issues that are thought-provoking, such as the discourse of Islam Nusantara, and practical socio-religious issues that are related to political themes, both at local and national levels

Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to present a concept of inclusive Islamic education by showing Muslim and Christian relations in the spectrum: “A Common Word” which has a connotative meaning that everything is equal, balanced, and level. Using the study method can reveal the results of the study on the thoughts of Mohammad Talbi. First, it touches on the range of modern Islamic issues and religious issues in general in the context of intra-Islamic relations and the relationship between Islam and other religions, particularly the relationship between Muslims and Christians. Second, building a paradigm of peace among adherents of the "Ibrahim faith" and building awareness that we and followers of other religions are one big family, namely the Ibrahim family (Millah Ibrahim) who can create a world of peace and harmony in diversity. The third ideas of Mohammad Talbi as an instrument in the process of understanding or constructing the historical-sociological-humanist perspective approach. The fourth is the relevance of the Islamic education model.
