Abstract

Abstract

Wasting is a nutritional problem that is still the focus of attention in the management of health problems in infants and toddlers. The existence of the COVID-19 pandemic has hampered Posyandu service activities for toddlers, so that control over toddler waste has decreased. The role of cadres as the leading pillar in community service, especially with toddlers, is the main focus that needs to be put forward. Increasing the knowledge and skills of cadres is important to improving the quality of service to the community, especially toddlers. This community service aims to increase the role of posyandu cadres in an effort to reduce waste problems through increasing knowledge and developing MP-ASI innovations from high-protein multipurpose flour products. This activity consisted of two methods, namely, TOT (training of trainers) for cadres and mentoring toddler waste by posyandu cadres. Training activities for cadres consist of materials on wasting and prevention efforts as well as training on making MP-ASI based on high-protein multipurpose flour. This community service activity is carried out in the working area of Bulak District with a focus on selected Posyandu with the target of wasting toddlers. The results of this community service activity can be seen in the increase in the knowledge of posyandu cadres in the Bulak District by 16.5% about the problem of toddler wasting. The improvement in the skills of cadres and mothers of toddlers in processing various kinds of toddler food menus based on high-protein multipurpose flour also looks quite good, as evidenced by the success in creating various types of food menus that are directly applied to toddlers. The conclusion in this community service activity is that counseling, training, and assistance provided can increase the knowledge and creativity of posyandu cadres and mothers of toddlers in creating MP-ASI based on high-protein multipurpose flour as an effort to combat wasting.

Abstract

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in adolescents group is one of the most common disorder in woman at reproductive age. It substantially reduces quality of life for many women of reproductive age, with pharmaceutical treatments having limited efficacy and substantial side effects. A health lifestyle e.g. regular physical activity and high soy dietary intakes has been recommended as a method of reducing PMS symptoms. This study aims to describe the physical activity and high soy dietary intake and PMS symptoms in female students of Vocational High School 10 Surabaya. This study was designed to describe the activity level were recalled in 7x24 hour, soy dietary intake, and severity of PMS symptoms in female students that was administrated by structured questionnaires. The result showed that of all participants (n=59) were defined as having light physical activity level (88.1%), moderate level of soy dietary intake (17.22-28.38 portions per month), and mild degree of PMS symptoms (71.2%). Based on crosstabulation showed that respondences who had light physical activity experienced moderate PMS degree (8.6%), and who had high soy dietary intake experienced moderate PMS degree (8.5%). This recommendation is based on relatively little evidence, and the relationship between physical activity, soy dietary intake, and premenstrual syndrome symptoms remains unclear.

Abstract

Background: There are differences in the prevalence of malnutrition between rural and urban areas due to differences in consumption patterns. However, data regarding differences between rural and urban areas in Indonesian cities still need to be investigated, even though this information is essential for the government to use when creating policies to eradicate malnutrition.    Objectives: To determine the effects of differences in school location (rural and urban) on the nutritional status, food intake, and sleep duration of children in junior high school. Methods: The research employed a cross-sectional design, which comprised 102 junior high school students in Jombang (a rural area) and 101 junior high school students from Surabaya (an urban area) served as the sample. Nutritional status was determined using anthropometric measurements of z-score BMI-for-age, performing the 2x24H food recall interviews to determine food intake and the questionnaire to determine sleep duration.     Results: The findings revealed a significant difference between rural and urban areas in nutritional status (p=0.002) and food intake, namely carbohydrate intake (p<0.001). The issue of malnutrition that differed significantly between the two regions was obesity (p<0.001), which was more prevalent in urban areas; on the other hand, undernutrition did not (p=0.556). In addition, sleep duration did not differ significantly (p=0.327).   Conclusions: In conclusion, differences in nutritional problems between urban and rural areas were not constantly caused by food intake or sleep duration; however, indirect factors such as physical activity could also play a role. This finding resulted in recommendations for schools to conduct a balanced nutrition education program and for the government to implement various policies to eliminate malnutrition in urban and rural areas.

Abstract

One of the efforts to maintain children’s nutritional status is to prevent weight faltering, which was formerly known as failure to thrive. Unresolved weight faltering will cause several problems, such as growth failure, stunting, decreased IQ, morbidity, and mortality in children. Stunting is one of the big problems that occur in Indonesia. One of the continuous strategies to prevent weight faltering is through food supplementation, such as consuming moringa leaf which is high in protein in the form of biscuits. This study aims to determine the effects of consuming biscuits made from Moringa oleifera leaf on children's growth in Bangkalan, Indonesia. This study used experimental research method for two months. The sample was drawn using consecutive sampling technique. The subjects in this study were 31 children under five whose weight and height were not according to age. Before moringa biscuits were distributed, children’s body weight and height were measured. The nutritional status was evaluated every month for two months. The parameters measured were weight gain and height increase. The results were analyzed using univariate and multivariate tests on SPSS. After giving moringa oleifera biscuits for two months at the Village Health Post (Pos Kesehatan Desa/Poskesdes) of Bangkalan, children’s body weight increased by 0.35 kg per month and their height increased by 0.65 cm per month. The distribution of biscuits can be continued to preventing stunting.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Minyak Ikan Lele, Permen, Bentonit, Tulung Agung, Kecerdasan Mental ABSTRACT Background: The intensity of the activity of catfish flour industry produces various by-products in large quantity, namely bones/thorns, oil, and skin. These by-products, if not treated, will become organic waste that disturbs the environment. Therefore, the ITB 2022 community service activity carried out with PT Rumah Inovasi Natura aims to utilize one of these wastes, namely fish oil. Catfish oil, like other fish oils, has a very unpleasant aroma that is not liked, even though the content of active compounds is very good for the growth and development of intelligence. Objective: The purpose of this community service is to purify catfish oil using bentonite so that the oil produced is clearer and odorless. Furthermore, the oil is processed into sweet candy so that it is preferred by children. Methods: The service activities are packaged in various forms of activities: counseling and training for the community in Tulung Agung district, including people from the PKK group, IKM (small and medium industries), SMKN 1 students, and PAUD students. Especially for PAUD students, they were given fish oil yuppy candy and advice on the importance of fish oil for intelligence. Results: The results of community service activities received a very good response from various groups of people who were included in this program. Conclusion: This service activity produces food products that can be used as a means of supplementing catfish oil which contains various good bioactives to help improve the development of children's intelligence.
