Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: Trends in Politeness Research in Indonesian Language Education Journals: A Decade of Insights (2013–2023). Objective: Linguistic politeness is a crucial element in communication that reflects cultural norms and social values, particularly in multicultural societies like Indonesia. This study aims to analyze trends in politeness research within Indonesian language and literature education journals indexed in SINTA during 2013–2023. Methods: Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research examines 63 articles based on publication volume, research methods, focus areas, theoretical adaptations, and practical implications. Articles were selected using the keywords "politeness" and "linguistic politeness" through a systematic screening process aligned with inclusion criteria, including relevance to the context of language and literature education. Thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns, key trends, and shifts in research focus. Findings: The findings reveal a significant increase in publications between 2019 and 2023, driven by the expansion of digital platforms and the rise of online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most studies employed qualitative descriptive methods, focusing on middle school students in formal education contexts. Additionally, there has been growing attention to politeness issues in digital interactions, particularly concerning phenomena like hate speech and trolling. The study also highlights the dominance of international politeness theories, such as those by Brown and Levinson, which have been modified to reflect Indonesia's cultural diversity and social norms. This underscores the need for more excellent localization of global theories. Conclusion: As a recommendation, diversifying research methodologies by incorporating quantitative and mixed methods approaches is strongly advised to provide a more comprehensive understanding of politeness dynamics. Furthermore, integrating politeness education into curricula is essential to promote courteous communication in multicultural and digital contexts. This research contributes to the theoretical discourse by enriching discussions on linguistic politeness and offers practical strategies for fostering harmonious communication in traditional and digital environments. studies. Keywords: content analysis, education journals, indonesian language, politeness research, research trends.

Abstract

STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) plays a crucial role in elementary schools because it provides a strong foundation for students' skill development and understanding in science and technology. STEM education can help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity from an early age This research aims to implement a STEM-integrated module infused with Wasaka character values to internalize the Wasaka character in students. The Wasaka character, comprising religiousness, resilience, responsibility, and independence, is vital for fostering holistic development. The study utilizes a one-group pre-test-post-test design with pre-test and post-test evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the module in enhancing character development. Data were collected through observations and questionnaires. The results indicate a significant improvement in the internalization of Wasaka character traits following the implementation of the module. The findings suggest that integrating STEM education with local cultural values can effectively contribute to character building. This study highlights the importance of culturally relevant education in shaping students' character.

Abstract

Strengthening the character of environmental care is an important effort to ensure the survival of all creatures in the future. However, currently the awareness of the importance of protecting the environment is still low in society, and schools have a very important role in developing this environmental awareness character. Environmental sensitivity includes attitudes and measures to prevent environmental damage and repair damage that has occurred. The environment not only plays a vital role for human life but is also important in the context of education in schools, affecting student success. This study aims to evaluate the use of contextualised learning approach in strengthening environmental awareness character in junior high school students. The research method used literature analysis from secondary sources. The results show that the contextual learning approach has a positive impact on strengthening students' environmental care character, allowing them to link learning with practical applications in daily life. This approach is also in line with efforts to realise the ‘Merdeka Belajar’ initiative initiated by the Ministry of Education, contributing to the realisation of national education goals.

Abstract

STEM education, which includes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is essential to prepare students with the skills and knowledge required in the modern world. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of a STEM-integrated module combined with Wasaka character values to enhance student learning outcomes. The Wasaka values, rooted in local culture, include religiousness, resilience, responsibility, and independence, and are integrated into the STEM curriculum to create a holistic educational approach. The research employs a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments 35 students in a field trial phase. Statistical analyses, including paired t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, were used to determine the significance of differences in student performance before and after the intervention. The results show a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, with all students demonstrating higher scores in post-tests compared to pre-tests. The integration of STEM and Wasaka character values enhanced academic achievement. This research concludes that the STEM-integrated module with Wasaka values is effective in improving both cognitive and character aspects of students, providing a model for more comprehensive and culturally responsive educational practices.
