Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ecological utilization of mangroves, examine the socio-economic aspects of the local community, and assess the relationship between these uses, conservation efforts, and the educational potential of the area. The urgency of the research lies in the need to integrate ecological utilization, socio-economic sustainability, and the application of a Sustainable Circular Economy, while simultaneously strengthening the role of mangrove ecotourism areas as sources of contextual science learning. The research employed a descriptive approach with data collected through structured in-depth interviews and questionnaires administered to 10 respondents. Data were analyzed using a mixed method, consisting of qualitative descriptive analysis for interview results and quantitative descriptive analysis for questionnaire data. The findings indicate that mangrove utilization is mainly limited to the collection of dead wood due to local regulations, while the exploitation of fauna (mollusks, crabs, and fish) is more dominant as a source of income. Community participation in conservation is relatively high, but knowledge regarding the medicinal benefits of mangroves remains low. These results highlight the need to strengthen sustainable, circular-economy-based utilization and to optimize the area as a source of contextual science learning.

Abstract

Sasambo Medicinal Oil is a local wisdom–based product from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) that utilizes medicinal plants such as lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, eucalyptus, and various other ethnopharmaceutical species. In the context of phytochemistry learning, the use of this oil serves as a relevant medium for connecting the concept of secondary metabolites with the practical application of natural-product utilization. This study aims to describe the knowledge profile of students regarding Sasambo medicinal oil as a cultural heritage product that possesses significant phytochemical potential and economic value, as well as its contribution to enhancing scientific literacy. Students’ understanding of the components, benefits, and preparation processes of this traditional medicinal oil is essential to develop within chemistry education based on local wisdom. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method using closed-ended questionnaires and interviews as instruments. The research subjects consisted of 52 students from the Chemistry Education Study Program at the University of Mataram. The findings show that 73% of students have general knowledge about Sasambo oil, yet only 38% understand its chemical composition and pharmacological mechanisms. Abstract

Systems thinking is one of the most important abilities in the 21st century. Systems thinking helps students organize their thoughts in a meaningful way and make connections between seemingly unrelated problems to reveal their interrelatedness. Through systems thinking, learners are directed to first recognize a problem, understand the links between the factors causing the problem, and finally find the right solution and prevent new problems from arising. Systems thinking skills can be facilitated through learning with an integrated biopreneurship Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model. This study aims to identify how the positive trends of research on biopreneurship and systems thinking variables. This research method is descriptive and analytical. The data used in this study were obtained from documents indexed by Google Scholar from 2016 to 2025 using Publish or Perish and Dimension.ai. The data identified and analyzed were the type of publication, the source of publication, and the title of the research on the project-based learning (PjBL) model integrated with biopreneurship to improve students' systems thinking skills. The data analysis method uses text analysis assisted by VOS viewer software. The results of the study show that the research trend of the biopreneurship PjBL model to improve system thinking skills is very low from 2016-2025. In the period 2016 to 2019, no publications were recorded. Entering 2020 and 2021, the number of publications began to appear, with one publication per year each. However, in 2022, there was a drastic decline to zero, indicating that there were no publications that met the criteria. A positive trend was again seen in 2023 with one publication, and the peak occurred in 2024, where two publications were recorded, being the highest number in the observed period
