Abstract

Strength-based counseling are grounded in the principles of positive psychology, emphasizing the recognition and development of individual strengths to enhance personal and interpersonal achievement. This approach fosters self-awareness and better relationships by encouraging individuals to recognize their strengths and those of others. Research indicates that a strengths-based approach can lead to a 50% increase in social relationships. The theory encompasses ten key propositions, including the ability to adapt and self-improve, the relationship between strengths and basic psychological needs, and the capacity for ongoing strength development influenced by various factors. Additionally, it highlights the variability of strength levels based on environmental context, the dialectical nature of strengths arising from challenges, and the importance of encouragement and effort recognition in motivating change. Ultimately, this model reinforces the significance of hope as a catalyst for transforming dysfunctional behaviors, fostering resilience, and promoting social competence.

Abstract

Management, evaluation, and accountability issues remain problems in guidance and counseling services. This study aims to explore the perceptions of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Bogor regarding accountability in guidance and counseling services. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects were eight BK teachers at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Bogor who were selected using purposive sampling. Structured interviews were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. This study found that BK teachers’ perceptions of accountability were divided into five main categories: (1) conceptual understanding of accountability, (2) documentation and reporting practices, (3) barriers to implementing accountability, (4) understanding of MEASURE, and (5) analysis of each aspect of MEASURE. BK teachers understanding of accountability tended to be general, documentation practices were still limited to administrative aspects, and there were various obstacles in the implementation of accountability. The conclusion of this study is BK teachers’ perceptions of accountability are still in the early stages of understanding and basic implementation. Abstract

This study aims to examine various literature that discusses the implementation of guidance and counseling (BK) management systems in regular schools in the context of inclusive education. The research was conducted using the narrative literature review method on national sources indexed by SINTA and several relevant international articles. The results of the study show that the BK management system plays an important role in supporting the success of inclusive education, especially at the stage of planning, implementing, and evaluating services that are oriented to the individual needs of students. However, implementation in the field still faces obstacles, such as the limited competence of BK teachers in handling students with special needs (including slow learners), lack of coordination across professions, and lack of policy support from schools. This study recommends the need to strengthen the capacity of BK teachers, the development of school policies that favor diversity, and the use of technology in the BK management system.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine empathy profiles and empathy dysfunction among Muslim adolescents involved in brawl and klithih behavior in Yogyakarta City high schools and to identify factors underlying their involvement. The research used a descriptive design combining quantitative and qualitative data. Participants were seven Muslim students from private high schools selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an empathy scale and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using measures of central tendency and dispersion, whereas qualitative data were examined using Miles and Huberman’s model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that involvement in brawls and klithih is closely associated with empathy dysfunction, which is exacerbated by low emotional regulation and unsupportive family backgrounds. These results inform guidance and counseling services and can guide strategies to develop adaptive empathy among students at risk of violent behavior. The study enriches empirical understanding of adolescent empathy and school violence. This study has limitations in geographical scope, being restricted to Yogyakarta City schools, so the findings may not generalize to adolescents in regions with different sociocultural contexts. The study also focused mainly on individual factors, while external influences such as social environments, educational systems, and institutional roles were not systematically explored. Future research should broaden the participant context across diverse regions and deepen the analysis of structural dimensions that contribute to empathy dysfunction and youth violence. Future studies should also use participatory approaches involving students, teachers, and school communities to build a more holistic and applicable understanding.

Abstract

This research examines the difficulties encountered in the implementation of follow-up guidance and counseling services, with a particular focus on the perspectives of school counselors. For the research methodology, a qualitative case study approach was adopted, along with semi-structured interview techniques. The findings indicate that the implementation of the follow-up stages of guidance and counseling is hindered by the absence of evaluation, supervision, and reporting, as well as the lack of support from the school. This can be identified as the primary obstacle to the implementation of follow-up. In light of these findings, this study offers a comprehensive examination of the aforementioned challenges and proposes strategies for enhancement.

Abstract

Follow-up in guidance and counseling is carried out to improve and develop the quality of services or program effectiveness as well as ensuring accountability for the services provided. As a form of accountability, follow-up activities are an essential process that can ensure that the goals and objectives of these programs are achieved, the services provided are of high quality and relevant to student needs, and the services provided can be accounted for. This study examines and evaluates the effectiveness of process follow-up in schools as a means of ensuring the accountability of guidance and counseling services. The research methodology employed was a case study with an embedded single case-study design. The study participants were three high schools in Bandung, Indonesia, selected based on a purposive sampling technique. The findings indicate that the follow-up guidance and counseling activity, particularly in the three selected schools, has not been implemented correctly. This is due to a failure to adhere to the prescribed procedures and guidelines for follow-up activities.
