Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students' mathematical literacy skills through the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach compared to Teacher Centered Learning (TCL), and to analyze the interaction between the learning approaches and students' Adversity Quotient (AQ) levels. The method used was a quasi-experiment with subjects of grade VIII students at SMP IT Nurul Fadhilah Percut Sei Tuan. The research instruments included an Adversity Response Profile (ARP) questionnaire and a mathematical literacy test. The results showed an increase in mathematical literacy skills in students who learned using the RME approach, with an N-gain of 0.589 higher than the class using TCL. This study also found an interaction between the learning approach and AQ levels on students' mathematical literacy skills. Students in the climbers category showed better resilience and ability in solving mathematical problems than students categorized as campers or quitters. This finding confirms that the application of contextual learning such as RME with strengthening non-cognitive aspects such as AQ, has an important role in improving students' mathematical literacy.

Abstract

Students’ understanding of cube and cuboid concepts has not yet been optimally achieved, as the learning process tends to be teacher-centered and does not sufficiently involve students actively. This condition indicates the need for a learning model that not only actively engages students but also provides meaningful learning experiences. This study was conducted to examine the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in supporting the conceptual understanding of Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 34 Medan on the topic of cubes and cuboids. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with the research subjects consisting of 26 Grade VIII students and one mathematics teacher. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, documentation, and analysis of lesson plan (RPP) documents. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the research findings, the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model was proven to help students improve their conceptual understanding. This was indicated by students’ ability to explain concepts in their own words, relate concepts to real-life situations, and correctly apply surface area and volume concepts. Therefore, Project-Based Learning can be considered an alternative mathematics learning model that is active, contextual, and student-centered.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning conditions of functions and analyze the effectiveness of GeoGebra-assisted Discovery Learning in improving high school students' conceptual understanding. The study used a descriptive qualitative method, with data collection techniques including classroom observations, interviews with mathematics teachers, and documentation of 32 eleventh grade students. The results indicate that the use of GeoGebra increased student engagement through dynamic and interactive graphic visualizations, helping students explore the relationship between function equations and graph changes more clearly. Students appeared more active in discussions, were able to articulate conceptual reasoning, and demonstrated improvements in interpreting graphical and algebraic representations. The stages of Discovery Learning and the teacher's role as a facilitator also contributed significantly to the effectiveness of the learning. Overall, the integration of GeoGebra has been shown to support deeper conceptual understanding and has positive implications for the development of technology based mathematics learning.

Abstract

Pembelajaran matriks di sekolah menengah masih menghadapi kendala karena penyajiannya yang cenderung abstrak dan berfokus pada prosedur, sehingga siswa kesulitan memahami konsep secara mendalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi kebutuhan penerapan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matriks pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 12 Medan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi pembelajaran dan penelaahan dokumen pendukung, kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan teori dan temuan penelitian terkait RME. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran belum memanfaatkan konteks nyata, tidak menggunakan model konkret, dan kurang memberi ruang eksplorasi, diskusi, serta refleksi. Kondisi ini membuat pemahaman siswa bersifat mekanis dan lemah dalam menyelesaikan masalah kontekstual. Kajian literatur memperkuat bahwa RME mampu membangun pemahaman konseptual melalui konteks autentik, representasi visual, proses matematisasi bertahap, dan interaksi kelas. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan RME merupakan kebutuhan mendesak untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran matriks dan mendukung pemahaman siswa secara bermakna.Kata Kunci: Realistic Mathematics Education; matriks; pemahaman konsep; pembelajaran kontekstual.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kesalahan siswa kelas X SMA dalam menyelesaikan soal Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV) berdasarkan kerangka SOLO Taxonomy. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui tes tertulis dan wawancara terhadap 18 siswa. Data dianalisis menggunakan lima kategori SOLO Taxonomy: pre-structural, uni-structural, multi-structural, relational, dan extended abstract. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagian besar siswa berada pada tingkat pre-structural, terutama dalam mengubah soal cerita ke bentuk model matematis. Kesalahan lain meliputi ketidakmampuan menghubungkan persamaan, kelemahan dalam prosedur penyelesaian, serta kesulitan mengomunikasikan langkah penyelesaian. Hanya sedikit siswa yang mencapai tingkat relational dan extended abstract, ditandai dengan kemampuan menyelesaikan soal secara logis, sistematis, dan melakukan generalisasi. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya penguatan keterampilan translasi soal cerita ke model SPLDV, peningkatan latihan prosedural, serta strategi pembelajaran yang menekankan komunikasi matematis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the effectiveness of applying fraction blocks based on a deep learning approach in improving students' understanding of fraction material in the seventh grade of MTs. The type of research used is an experiment with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research subjects were 24 seventh-grade students at MTs Cerdas Murni. Data were obtained through pretest and posttest tests and observation of student learning activities, then analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the t-test. The results show that the average pretest score of students was 63.33, which increased to 72.5 on the posttest, and the t-test results show a significant difference between the two scores (tvalue = 3.406 > ttable = 2.069). These findings prove that the use of fraction block media based on the deep learning approach is effective in helping students understand the conversion of common fractions to mixed fractions and vice versa. In addition, this media is also able to increase student learning activity through more concrete manipulative and visual activities. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan efektivitas penerapan blok pecahan berdasarkan pendekatan pembelajaran mendalam dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa tentang materi pecahan pada kelas VII MTs. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan desain One Group Pretest-Posttest. Subjek penelitian adalah 24 siswa kelas VII di MTs Cerdas Murni. Data diperoleh melalui tes pretest dan posttest serta pengamatan aktivitas belajar siswa, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan uji-t. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor pretest siswa adalah 63,33, yang meningkat menjadi 72,5 pada posttest, dan hasil uji t menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua skor tersebut (thitung = 3,406 > ttabel = 2,069). Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa penggunaan media blok pecahan berdasarkan pendekatan pembelajaran mendalam efektif dalam membantu siswa memahami konversi pecahan biasa menjadi pecahan campuran dan sebaliknya. Selain itu, media ini juga mampu meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa melalui aktivitas manipulatif dan visual yang lebih konkret.
