Abstract

Especially for children with modest intellectual disabilities, the ability to recognize letters is a crucial first step in the development of early reading. Because of these constraints, learning materials must be tangible, visually appealing, and captivating. This study's primary goal was to show how the Fun and Fun Reading (BARUSIK) app can help kids with minor intellectual disabilities recognize alphabetic letters. Using an A-B-A design and the Single Subject Research (SSR) experimental method, a quantitative research methodology was employed. An 8-year-old girl in class II at Sungai Banyak State Special Needs School who had modest intellectual difficulties served as the study's subject. Observation was used to gather data, and a performance test was used as a research tool to gauge the child's proficiency in naming and displaying alphabet letters. Data analysis was then displayed graphically. The findings demonstrated that the child's ability stayed constant at 25% at the start of the baseline investigation (A1). In phase B of the intervention, the child's proficiency rises to 70%. The child's abilities continued to grow and stabilized at 90% at the end of the baseline testing (A2). Children with minor intellectual disabilities have been shown to benefit from the Fun and Exciting Reading Application (BARUSIK) in terms of their ability to recognize alphabetic letters. According to this study, children with modest intellectual disabilities should learn in special schools using application-based media.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve early writing skills of students with physical disabilities, specifically cerebral palsy, through the use of kinetic sand as a learning medium. The research was motivated by the low ability of students to write letters, numbers, and simple words independently and neatly due to limitations in fine motor control. This study employed a Classroom Action Research design conducted in two cycles in Grade III at SLB Negeri Salak. The research subjects consisted of two students, identified as AM and RB. The assessed aspects included the ability to write letters A–Z, numbers 1–10, and simple words independently and legibly. Data were collected through observation and performance tests and analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods based on percentage scores. The results showed a significant improvement in both subjects. In the initial condition, AM achieved 33.33% and RB 26.67%. In Cycle I, the scores increased to 60.0% for AM and 46.7% for RB. Further improvement was observed in Cycle II, with AM reaching 80.0% and RB 66.7%. These findings indicate that kinetic sand is effective in enhancing early writing skills of students with cerebral palsy, as it provides sensorimotor stimulation that supports hand coordination and fine motor control. Therefore, kinetic sand can serve as an adaptive and innovative instructional medium to develop early writing skills in students with physical disabilities.

Abstract

The advancements of knowledge and technology in the fourth industrial revolution have influenced learning settings at school. Teachers have to develop new learning methods, models, and media to help improve their students' learning outcomes.  The technology that is becoming popular among students is Android-based media. Students at school are diverse and so are students at special education schools(SLB). Students with hearing impairment are those who suffer from hard of hearing and hearing loss. Teachers must get their students to make the most of their residual hearing and other senses like touch and sight when learning, especially during difficult subjects. One of the subjects that the students consider the hardest is religious education because it has a lot of practice and memorization. Hijaiyah is 30 letters of the Arabic alphabet and learning them becomes the core competency in reading the Quran. Teachers can use sign language as their teaching strategy. Sign language is a non-verbal language used by hearing-impaired people. However, sign language is still not commonly used among teachers at special education schools. This research used Research and Development model. The data were collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The data analysis was conducted using data reduction, data presentation, and data interpretation. The product of the research is an Android application for learning hijaiyah letters through sign language for students with hearing impairment.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of graphic design skills instruction for students with deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) at SLB Negeri 1 Lima Kaum. The research method used was qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and document analysis. The subjects of this study consisted of the graphic design teacher, students with DHH disabilities, and the school principal. This study was analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, then its validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The research findings indicate that lesson plans are systematically developed by adapting the curriculum to students’ visual abilities. Instruction begins with the simplest materials and progresses to more complex ones. Instructional delivery emphasizes hands-on practice, visual demonstrations, and material repetition to address auditory communication barriers. Teachers’ pedagogical practices integrate Direct Instruction, Chunking, and Scaffolding methods, supported by digital tools such as CorelDraw and Canva. Evaluation is conducted continuously, based on both process and product. The primary challenges encountered include reversal errors (reversed writing), a characteristic of hearing impairment, and difficulties in long-term memory regarding tool symbols and their functions. The solutions implemented include structured repetition up to 5 times, specific technical cues for computer operations, and the preparation of substitute teachers. These findings underscore the importance of optimizing the vocational potential of students with hearing impairments, making them relevant as a reference for the development of skills programs at Special Education Schools in West Sumatra.

Abstract

Self injurious behavior (SIB) is one of the most critical behavioral challenges in children autism spectrum disorder (ASD), affecting their safety, social participation, and academic outcomes. This study combines a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA framework with bibliometric analysis to examine the effectiveness, types, and success factors of modeling techniques in reducing SIB among children with autism. A bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix was conducted on 257 documents from 171 sources spanning 2016-2026, drawn from the Scopus database. After rigorous PRISMA screening, 11 studies were included in the final synthesis. Bibliometric findings reveal that the USA dominates research output, and key themes cluster around autism spectrum disorder, behavioral intervention, and video modeling. The annual scientific production shows a peak around 2023-2024, with a slight decline in 2025-2026. SLR findings confirm that video modeling and video self modeling are the most effective techniques for reducing SIB. Success factors include functional behavior assessment, parental involvement, technology accessibility, and psychosocial environment quality. These findings provide an evidence-based foundation for developing adaptive, technology assisted behavioral interventions in special and inclusive education settings.

Abstract

This study discusses reducing nail-biting behavior using aversion technique for children with mild intellectual disabilities in Class III at SLB Wacana Asih Padang. The purpose of this study is to see whether the aversion technique can reduce nail-biting behavior in children with mild intellectual disabilities at SLB Wacana Asih Padang. This research was applied using a Single Subject (SSR) design type A-B, with the research subjects being children with mild intellectual disabilities in Class III at SLB Wacana Asih Padang. The variable tested in this study is the aversion technique as the independent variable, while nail-biting behavior is the dependent variable. Data were collected through direct observation, and the results were analyzed using visual graphics. The research results proved that the nail-biting behavior of children with mild intellectual disabilities reduced when applying the aversion technique, as seen from the comparison of values between the baseline condition (A) and the condition when the method was applied (B). Thus, the researchers concluded that the aversion technique can reduce nail-biting behavior in children with mild intellectual disabilities. This study has limitations in the limited number of subjects and the relatively short duration of the intervention, so the results cannot yet be generalized widely. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involves more subjects, extends the intervention time, and combines the aversion technique with other approaches to achieve more optimal results.
