Abstract

This journal explores the development of a curriculum designed for effective multilingual learning specifically catering for bilingual students in Indonesia. As the country embraces linguistic diversity, the need for a curriculum that accommodates multiple languages becomes essential to foster inclusivity and improve educational outcomes. This study investigates current educational practices, identifies challenges faced by bilingual learners, and proposes a comprehensive framework that integrates cultural relevance and language proficiency. Using qualitative and quantitative research methods, including surveys and interviews with educators and students, the findings highlight the importance of contextualised learning experiences and teacher training. The proposed curriculum aims to enhance cognitive development, cultural awareness and linguistic skills among bilingual students, ultimately contributing to a more equitable education system in Indonesia. This research underscores the need to adapt educational approaches to meet the needs of diverse language communities, thus supporting national development goals in the context of globalisation.

Abstract

The application of gamification in education is becoming a topic that is increasingly discussed, both in the context of formal and non-formal education. The purpose of this research is to examine how the application of gamification in e-learning can increase student motivation and involvement. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method that includes various previous studies on gamification in education. The results of this study show that the application of game elements in online learning can increase interactivity, strengthen the attractiveness of the subject matter, and encourage students to more actively participate in the learning process. In addition, this study also found that gamification has the potential to improve student learning outcomes by making the material more interesting and giving faster feedback. This research concludes that gamification can be an effective tool in creating a more interesting learning experience and increasing student motivation. However, further research is still needed to optimize the gamification design in various learning contexts.

Abstract

English in Indonesia is studied as a foreign language since school age to help prepare the younger generation to face the global world. However, the uneven education system in cities and rural areas is one of the challenges in teaching English to students. As a result of this challenge, students' motivation to learn English is low because it is considered boring and difficult to learn. The difference in English language skills of elementary school children in urban and rural areas is the reason for the implementation of this English language training service program for elementary school students. This program aims to improve English skills, especially vocabulary development and speaking skills for elementary school students. Teaching using the gamification method is an option that is considered effective for teaching and training students to learn English because it can increase children's interest and motivation through playing snakes and ladders, guessing words, and singing. The data collection techniques used are participant observation, pre-test, and post-test.

Abstract

This study explores students' perspectives on using TikTok as a tool to enhance their skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). With the growing popularity of social media, particularly TikTok, as an educational resource, the research aims to investigate how students perceive the impact of this platform on their language learning. A mixed-method approach was employed, involving surveys and interviews with EFL students to gather qualitative and quantitative data. The findings suggest that TikTok offers a dynamic and engaging way for students to practice listening, speaking, and vocabulary acquisition. Many students reported enjoying the short, creative videos that provide exposure to authentic language use, and they highlighted the platform's interactive features, such as challenges and trends, as motivating factors. However, some students expressed concerns about the quality and accuracy of content, emphasizing the importance of guidance from teachers. The study concludes that while TikTok can be an effective supplementary tool for language learning, its integration into formal education should be carefully monitored. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on the use of social media in education, offering insights into how platforms like TikTok can be leveraged to support EFL learning in the digital age.

Abstract

This article investigates Photovoice as a potentially transformative approach to digital storytelling within the context of English language education. Situated within the broader framework of seeking innovative pedagogical approaches that cultivate both linguistic proficiency and critical engagement, the study aims to ascertain how Photovoice, a participatory visual methodology, can enhance learners' communicative competence, narrative abilities, and intercultural understanding. Employing a qualitative research methodology grounded in a comprehensive review of existing literature on digital storytelling, Photovoice, and language learning, this article analyzes the pedagogical implications of this approach. Findings suggest that Photovoice empowers learners through creative self-expression, strengthens visual literacy, and facilitates the development of sophisticated English language skills. While the findings robustly support the potential of Photovoice, the review also acknowledges limitations within the existing research corpus. The conclusion posits that Photovoice offers a valuable and engaging pedagogical tool for enriching the language learning environment and promoting deeper learning outcomes. This article further emphasizes the significance of integrating technology into language education through the implementation of Photovoice. By utilizing digital platforms for sharing and showcasing visual narratives, learners are empowered to articulate their thoughts and experiences, thereby engaging with a wider audience beyond the confines of the classroom. Ultimately, this approach not only enhances language skills but also promotes empathy and global citizenship among learners, making it a multifaceted tool for contemporary education.

Abstract

Speaking is a vital yet challenging skill for EFL students, especially in secondary schools, due to limited practice, low confidence, and classroom anxiety. Traditional teacher-centered methods often fail to offer meaningful speaking opportunities. This study, conducted at SMK Sritanjung Banyuwangi using a qualitative descriptive method, explores how Digital Storytelling (DST) based on students’ daily routines can enhance speaking skills, motivation, engagement, and digital literacy. Six tenth-grade students created English video blogs (vlogs) about their daily activities. Data were collected through speaking assessments, open-ended questionnaires, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results showed notable improvements in pronunciation, fluency, grammar, and vocabulary. DST also boosted students’ creativity, confidence, and motivation while reducing anxiety. Despite initial nervousness and technical challenges, students responded positively, finding DST enjoyable and supportive. Overall, DST provided an engaging, low-pressure environment that encouraged autonomous learning and effective communication.
