Abstract

The discourse on wasathiyah has become increasingly important in contemporary Islamic education due to the emergence of religious extremism, intolerance, and imbalanced understandings of Islamic teachings. However, many studies on wasathiyah primarily focus on Qur’anic perspectives, while discussions that specifically examine the concept through the lens of hadith tarbawi and its educational implications remain relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the concept of wasathiyah from the perspective of hadith tarbawi and to identify the educational values embedded within it as a foundation for character formation in Islamic education. This research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were collected from relevant prophetic traditions, Qur’anic verses, and supporting scholarly literature, and were analyzed through content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the concept of wasathiyah in hadith tarbawi is manifested through three fundamental educational values: the prohibition of excessiveness (an-nahy ‘an al-ghuluw), tolerance (as-samahah), and balance (at-tawazun). These values promote a balanced relationship between spiritual and physical needs, individual and social responsibilities, as well as worldly and hereafter-oriented goals. This study contributes to the development of Islamic educational thought by providing a hadith-based conceptual framework of wasathiyah that can serve as a foundation for cultivating moderate, adaptive, and morally grounded learners in contemporary society.

Abstract

Knowledge holds a central position in Islam as it serves as the foundation for faith, moral development, and human civilization. The Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasize the importance of seeking knowledge, developing noble character, and implementing educational values in everyday life. This study aims to analyze the concept of al-‘ilm (knowledge) from the perspective of Hadith, examine the character values and ethical conduct that should be cultivated in the learning process, and explore the implementation of values that promote respect for knowledge and learning within the framework of Hadith Tarbawi. This research employs a qualitative library research method by analyzing relevant Hadiths, Islamic literature, and scholarly sources. The findings reveal that al-‘ilm in the Hadith tradition is not merely understood as knowledge acquisition but also as a means of drawing closer to Allah and developing virtuous character. The character values that should be fostered in education include honesty (ṣidq), trustworthiness and responsibility (amanah), as well as humility and patience. Furthermore, the implementation of respect for knowledge is reflected through enthusiasm for learning, worship education based on exemplary conduct, habituation, gradual learning approaches, and appreciation for knowledgeable individuals. The study implies that Hadith Tarbawi remains highly relevant in developing an Islamic educational system that emphasizes not only cognitive achievement but also character formation and spiritual development among learners.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of the religiosity index to Islamic education from the perspective of Tarbawi hadith. The study is motivated by the tendency of religiosity research to focus primarily on ritual and spiritual dimensions, while social, moral, and educational dimensions have not been sufficiently integrated within the framework of Tarbawi hadith. The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of the religiosity index based on the hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and to explain its relevance to Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research by reviewing hadith literature, books, and scholarly journals related to religiosity and Islamic education. Hadith analysis was conducted thematically by classifying hadith based on educational values, including morality, social awareness, discipline, responsibility, patience, and tolerance. The findings indicate that, from the perspective of Tarbawi hadith, the religiosity index is multidimensional, encompassing aspects of faith, worship, morality, social interaction, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, and patience. These values are highly relevant to the objectives of Islamic education in shaping students’ religious character. Furthermore, the religiosity index can function as an evaluative instrument to measure the success of religious character development in educational settings. The findings also imply that Islamic education should emphasize a balanced integration of spiritual, moral, and social dimensions to comprehensively develop students’ religious character.

Abstract

Justice is a fundamental value in Islamic teachings. The Qur’an emphasizes the importance of upholding justice objectively and consistently, without regard to differences in ethnicity, race, or skin color. As educators, teachers bear a significant responsibility to act as objective and impartial role models in the classroom. However, challenges in the field of education frequently manifest in the form of discriminatory actions, whether intentional or unintentional, resulting from situational and emotional factors. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research and data collection techniques that draw upon hadith texts from primary sources, relevant educational literature, and verses from the Qur’an. The findings indicate that educators’ implementation of fair attitudes can enhance students’ self-confidence and foster a harmonious and tolerant learning environment. Conversely, discriminatory behavior whether intentional or unintentional that directly contradicts the humanitarian principles taught in Islam can have significant negative psychological impacts, ranging from a loss of motivation to learn and self-confidence to the risk of dropping out of school and the development of an intolerant character. Just as the Prophet demonstrated how to instill a sense of fairness in students through setting a good example and fostering good habits and his practice of treating men and women equally in their right to education.

Abstract

The world today is facing a serious ecological crisis stemming from a moral crisis and an exploitative anthropocentric paradigm, making it necessary to establish a strong foundation for environmental education based on spiritual values. This study aims to examine ecological and eco-theological paradigms from the perspective of educational hadith to provide a theoretical contribution to the development of character education focused on environmental care. The method used is a qualitative approach involving library research, which analyzes primary and secondary documents from reputable national and international scientific articles. The research findings indicate that eco-theology in the hadith positions humans as khalifah fil ardh entrusted with the responsibility to maintain ecological balance (tawazun). Environmental conservation ethics from the hadith perspective encompass the obligation to maintain cleanliness, the prohibition against causing damage through the exploitation of arid lands, and the principle of efficient water resource use, as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In conclusion, environmental conservation is an integral part of faith that must be integrated into the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of modern education. Islam offers preventive theological-educational solutions to cultivate individuals with ecological piety for the sustainability of the global ecosystem.

Abstract

Love for the homeland is one of the important character values that should be instilled in the younger generation to strengthen unity, nationalism, and national identity. In the era of globalization, various challenges such as the decline of national spirit and the erosion of character values have become significant concerns in the field of education. This study aims to analyze the concept of love for the homeland from the perspective of hadith tarbawi, identify the educational values contained within it, and explain the role of Islamic education in fostering nationalism among students. This research employs a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach through the examination of the Qur’an, hadith, books, journals, and other relevant scholarly sources. The findings reveal that the value of love for the homeland is consistent with Islamic teachings, which emphasize unity, social responsibility, respect for diversity, and commitment to the nation and the state. Hadith tarbawi contains character education values that can serve as a foundation for developing students’ sense of nationalism. Furthermore, Islamic education and teachers play strategic roles as educators, role models, and mentors in internalizing the values of love for the homeland through both learning processes and daily practices. The implications of this study indicate that strengthening the value of love for the homeland based on hadith tarbawi can serve as an alternative approach to developing a generation with noble character, a strong national spirit, and the ability to maintain national unity and integrity within a diverse society.

Abstract

Rumah Qur’an (RQ) Raudhatul Hufadz, a non-formal Qur’anic learning center in Sei Mencirim Village, Deli Serdang Regency, faced two intertwined problems: children showed strong enthusiasm for learning yet had no access to structured Arabic instruction, and the existing tahfidz (Qur’an memorization) program suffered from flagging motivation caused by repetitive, one-directional teaching. This community service initiative combined Service Learning (SL) and Participatory Action Research (PAR) to introduce basic Arabic instruction alongside a redesigned tahfidz process over a two-week period (21 February–5 March 2026). Twenty-four children took part in the Arabic class and twenty-one in the tahfidz program. Data were gathered through observation, a focus group discussion, and daily evaluation sheets, and were analyzed across two intervention cycles following a plan-act-observe-reflect sequence. In the Arabic class, drill practice, the mubasyarah (direct) method, and communicative techniques paired with visual media such as matching boards and flashcards produced measurable gains in vocabulary recognition and simple conversational exchange. In the tahfidz program, replacing rote repetition with a fun-learning approach and a participatory appreciation system – daily evaluation sheets tied to small rewards – raised both attendance and the completion rate of memorization targets. A parallel online Ta’lim session engaged parents (Ummahat) in supporting home-based learning. The findings suggest that pairing Service Learning’s structured reflection with Participatory Action Research’s cyclical, community-driven problem-solving can resolve demotivation in traditional Qur’anic education while leaving behind a durable foundation for Arabic-language instruction

Abstract

The low student interest in learning Islamic Religious Education (PA) in private Islamic elementary schools underscores the urgent need for more effective and enjoyable learning strategies, considering that religious education plays a central role in shaping students' morals, spiritual character, and learning motivation. This quantitative study aims to analyze the effect of teacher strategies in implementing a fun learning model on increasing interest in learning PAI at Nursyamsiani Islamic Private Elementary School. The research design used a survey method with an explanatory approach and involved 120 students in grades IV-V, selected through a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The research instrument was a Likert scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, and the data were analyzed using simple linear regression and a t-test. Islamic Religious Education (PA) at Nursyamsiani Islamic Private Elementary School is effective in creating a fun, meaningful, and student-centered learning experience. The strategies used include educational games, reflective activities, group collaboration, and creative media, which consistently increase student interest in learning across cognitive, affective, and behavioral domains. A positive and supportive learning environment also strengthens students' motivation, self-confidence, and active engagement in learning Islamic Religious Education (PA). The conclusion of this study confirms that enjoyable learning is a relevant, empirically grounded pedagogical approach to strengthen students' learning motivation, while making theoretical contributions to the development of active learning models in Islamic education and offering practical implications for teachers in designing more creative, interactive, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students.
