Abstract

This study aims to analyze the narrative structure, periodization, and methodological principles in A History of Mathematics by Carl B. Boyer and Uta C. Merzbach (third edition, 2011) as a historiographical model in mathematics education. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using the content analysis method. Data were collected through an in-depth reading of all chapters of the book and analyzed based on two main dimensions: internal history (the development of concepts and mathematical rigor) and external history (the social, cultural, and economic influences on the emergence of mathematical ideas). The findings reveal that Boyer and Merzbach construct the historical narrative of mathematics both chronologically and thematically, tracing its evolution from ancient to modern times while emphasizing the continuity of mathematical ideas across civilizations. Merzbach’s approach, which integrates linguistic, social, and economic contexts, demonstrates that the development of mathematics is the result of an interaction between abstract ideas and human practical needs. Furthermore, the principle of “extension without correction” indicates that each new mathematical theory does not negate earlier ones but rather expands and enriches the existing scientific framework. The study concludes that A History of Mathematics possesses significant pedagogical value and is highly relevant as a learning resource for the history of mathematics, as it cultivates a philosophical and historical understanding of mathematics as both a cultural product and an ongoing intellectual process

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the need for electronic student worksheets that raise the topic of international trade with a PBL model and are oriented towards creative thinking. This research used a descriptive method by collecting data through interviews, observation, and distributing questionnaires to 30 class XI Social Sciences students at Muhammadiyah Mlati High School. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman approach which includes data reduction, data analysis, and conclusion verification. The research results show that: (1) international trade material has the lowest average value and needs improvement; (2) students' creative thinking abilities are still low; (3) the learning applied is still conventional using the lecture method; and (4) students prefer to use electronic student worksheets as open materials. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that students need electronic student worksheets with the topic of international trade with a PBL model and are oriented towards creative thinking skills

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Problem-Solving learning model assisted by GeoGebra on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. The research design employed was the Posttest Only Control Group Design, which allows for the evaluation of treatment effectiveness by comparing the experimental group with the control group. The population of the study consisted of all eighth-grade students of Muhammadiyah 1 Mlati Junior High School, totaling 60 students. Sampling was conducted using a saturated sampling technique, where the entire population was included as the research sample, with class VIII A serving as the experimental group and VIII B as the control group. Research data were collected through tests designed to measure students' mathematical problem-solving skills. Prior to the research, the test instrument was validated and tested for reliability with class IX A students of Muhammadiyah 1 Mlati Junior High School. The results revealed that the Problem-Solving learning model assisted by GeoGebra had a positive and significant effect on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. This was evident from the higher test scores of students in the experimental group compared to those in the control group. These findings indicate that the use of GeoGebra as a teaching medium helps students understand mathematical concepts in a visual, interactive, and effective manner. Therefore, the Problem-Solving learning model assisted by GeoGebra can be considered an alternative teaching strategy to optimize students' problem-solving skills in mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) analyze the influence of character education on learning outcomes, (2) analyze the influence of parenting patterns on learning outcomes, and (3) analyze the influence of peer relationships on learning outcomes. This study was conducted at Muhammadiyah Mlati Senior High School with a sample of 30 students of grade XI Natural Sciences and using a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The results of the data analysis showed that all of these external factors had a positive influence on student learning achievement. First, character education made a significant contribution, where better character education instillation methods had an impact on improving student learning achievement. Second, good parenting patterns, especially in supporting and supervising student learning development, also played a role in improving learning achievement. Third, healthy and supportive peer relationships also had a positive impact on student learning achievement. The better the social relationships between students, the better the learning achievement they obtained.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concepts of the philosophy of mathematics and the teaching models applied in mathematics education from the perspective of educational philosophy. The research analyzes various sources related to philosophy, philosophy of education, philosophy of mathematics, and their connection to teaching models, including those based on Information Technology. Data was collected from secondary sources, such as books, articles, and accredited journals published between 2019 and 2024. The research method employed is a literature review with a qualitative approach, focusing on the analysis of references related to the study of philosophy, educational philosophy, and mathematics teaching models linked to philosophy and Information Technology. The findings reveal that: 1) the philosophy of mathematics plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of mathematics education; 2) mathematics teaching models should be connected to educational philosophy through the application of real-life concepts; and 3) the integration of Information Technology in teaching models supports the effectiveness of the learning process. This study is expected to contribute by providing insights into the role of the philosophy of mathematics in the context of Information Technology-based teaching models.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in developing high-quality human resources, particularly in mathematics learning, which is often perceived as challenging due to its abstract concepts and demanding cognitive processes. Developing relevant and open-source instructional tools has become a key strategy for improving learning quality and supporting equitable access to educational resources. This article examines the application of the ADDIE model Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation in the development of mathematics teaching tools. The model provides a systematic, iterative, and adaptable framework that enables educators and researchers to design contextual, interactive, and student-centered learning materials. This study employed the PRISMA framework to conduct a systematic review of 32 articles published between 2014 and 2024. The review focused on publication distribution, implementation characteristics of the ADDIE model across various educational contexts, and global trends in teaching tool development. Findings indicate that the ADDIE model is widely implemented and consistently adapted to local needs. In developed countries, integration of digital technologies, multimedia resources, and learning analytics is prominent, whereas in developing countries, the model tends to be applied with minimal-resource strategies while maintaining pedagogical effectiveness. Overall, the ADDIE model has demonstrated positive impacts on student learning outcomes, including improved conceptual understanding, engagement, and problem-solving abilities. Nevertheless, challenges such as limited time, institutional support, and resource availability continue to impede optimal implementation. The study recommends enhancing the ADDIE model to support learning innovations that prioritize student needs and align with broader educational demands, including strengthening the linkage between vocational schools and the labor market.
