Abstract

This study stems from a concern over the moral and epistemological crisis that characterizes modern education, particularly in the post-truth era, where truth is often obscured by opinion and emotion. Current models of character education tend to be normative and pragmatic, lacking a solid epistemological foundation. To address this issue, the research explores the epistemology of wahyu–‘aql–ḥiss (revelation–reason–senses) in Ibn Taimiyah’s thought as the basis for developing an integrative and transcendental Islamic character education model. The study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach using library research and philosophical-hermeneutic analysis of Ibn Taimiyah’s seminal works—Dar’ Ta‘āruḍ al-‘Aql wa al-Naql, Majmū‘ al-Fatāwā, and al-Radd ‘ala al-Manṭiqiyyīn—supported by secondary literature from contemporary Islamic scholars. The results reveal that Ibn Taimiyah’s epistemology is structured upon three primary sources of knowledge: revelation as the absolute source of truth, reason as the means of rationalization, and the senses as empirical instruments for perceiving reality. These three dimensions form a harmonious and hierarchical system of knowledge under the supremacy of revelation. In the context of character education, this model emphasizes the balance between transcendental values, critical rationality, and empirical experience in shaping students’ moral character. The study concludes that the wahyu–‘aql–ḥiss epistemology is not merely theoretical but can serve as a pedagogical paradigm for designing Islamic character education grounded in divine values while remaining relevant to contemporary challenges. Further applied research is recommended to evaluate the practical effectiveness of this model across various educational levels.

Abstract

Background: Islamic education views the teacher-student relationship as a spiritual-transcendental bond, a medium for the instilling of adab, and character formation. However, the digital era has triggered an acute moral crisis, marked by the commercialization of education that alters this connection into a mechanistic transaction, stripping away the essence of character education. Objective: This study aims to deeply explore K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari’s ethical thoughts in the book Adabul 'Alim wal Muta'allim and formulate an adaptive-contextual teacher-student relationship model to address modern morality challenges. Method: The method employed is descriptive qualitative through library research with a historical-philosophical approach and textual hermeneutics. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative content analysis. Results: The study identifies five main dimensions of the teacher-student relationship according to K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari: sincerity in teaching and learning, reverence for teachers, educator exemplary, the moral-spiritual responsibility of teachers, and attaining the blessing of knowledge through adab. The integration of jurisprudence-sufism and the lillah principle distinguishes this concept from secular Western theories which tend to be positivistic-rational. Conclusion: K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari’s thought provides a solid antithesis to contemporary degradation of adab. Its contextualization demands the formation of "digital adab", wherein virtual spaces must incorporate affective values, exemplary behavior, and spirituality, rather than merely serving as formal, value-barren data transfer.

Abstract

Objective: This study analyzes the implementation of religious humanistic learning in Islamic Religious Education at Pesat Senior High School Bogor as a response to emerging dehumanization issues in Indonesian education, aiming to explain the concept, identify applied strategies, and evaluate the implications for students’ holistic development. Method: Using a qualitative case study approach through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation analysis, the data were triangulated to enhance validity and capture the real dynamics of religious humanistic learning practices. Results: The findings show that religious humanistic learning strengthens cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes, with improved academic performance, evidenced by an average Islamic Religious Education score of 94. Teachers implement empathetic dialogue, contextual instruction, and value internalization to cultivate critical thinking, spirituality, and ethical behavior, while the school integrates religious habituation, digital ethics guidance, birrul walidain programs, and scholarship initiatives to support these goals. Twenty-first-century skills are enhanced through project-based learning, the Pesat Research Community, edufairs, and talent classes, preparing students to face global challenges creatively, independently, and responsibly in the future. Novelty: This study presents a comprehensive model of religious humanistic learning that integrates spiritual formation, ethical digital culture, parental devotion programs, and research-based activities, offering new insights into the alignment of humanistic pedagogy with Islamic educational values in the Indonesian secondary school context.

Abstract

Post-pandemic digitalization in higher education reveals a critical asymmetry between robust technological infrastructure and volatile human engagement. This study interrogates the "AFK (Away from Keyboard) Tutor Paradox," a phenomenon in which superior digital architecture coexists with inconsistent educator responsiveness. Adopting a Mixed-Methods Sequential Explanatory design, this research audited 101 students across four parallel classes. Quantitative data reveal a stark service disparity: despite high digital material quality (3.29/4.00), tutor responsiveness in the lagging class plummeted to 3.10, resulting in a negative performance gap. Qualitative inquiry confirms that students interpret this silence during assessments as a form of academic abandonment. Viewed through the lens of Islamic Education Management, this "AFK" behavior is re-evaluated as a fundamental breach of Al-Wafa bil Ahdi (fulfillment of covenant) and Amanah (trust). The study concludes that without rigorous quality assurance, specifically real-time response monitoring, the digital ecosystem risks becoming transactionally hollow. Accordingly, the research recommends a strategic pivot toward real-time ethical auditing to ensure accountable, humanized digital education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Qur'an-Hadith learning, analyze the development of students' critical thinking skills, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors of its application in the 11th grade at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Kota Bogor. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive model. The results show that the implementation of PBL was carried out through six main stages: problem identification, investigation, information search and analysis, discussion, development of alternative solutions, and presentation of results. This model proved effective in developing students' critical thinking skills, marked by their ability to identify problems, analyze information, solve problems, and draw conclusions logically and contextually. The main supporting factors included school policies, availability of facilities, teacher guidance, and student enthusiasm, while the challenges faced were limited learning time and varying levels of student engagement. These findings confirm that PBL is a relevant approach to creating active and contextual Qur'an-Hadith learning that fosters students' critical thinking capabilities.
